What do you make of ‘No Trouser Tube Ride’?

Saw the spectacle for myself. As a woman in my late 20s I have absolutely no desire to participate in this. Seems like an outdated 2013 “quirky” trend that won’t die. I’m always surprised at the diversity in those who participate - old/young, thin/bigger etc.

Maybe I’m getting older but I really just thought “put it away”

Saw the paps at the St I got off and would be mortified being photographed in my knickers.

Some of the hairy, Casper legs were quite frankly gross!

Penises

I thought people wore their underpants?

ginasevern · 13/01/2026 14:34

I've never witnessed this event in the flesh so to speak, but I imagine it's god's gift to blokes. They can legitimately display their tackle for a day and perv on girls in their knickers.

What did kids see that they wouldn’t see on a beach?

Penises

It would all be a bit of harmless fun if we didn’t live in a society where over a third of women have been sexually assaulted on the tube. Sadly I think it’s just another opportunity for those predatory fucks to get their cocks even closer to women on the tube. There’s no way I’d be riding the tube in a busy carriage with men in their gross y-fronts anywhere near me 🤮

Well said

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/01/2026 14:13

I imagine the 14 year old who came up with the idea is still very pleased with himself as his previous project of wearing a 'I look a Silly Prat' badge never caught on.

IngridBergmannn · 13/01/2026 14:07

I don't really care, and it doesn't offend me. But what is the point of this? Fun? I must have zero sense of humour, obviously, as I fail to see what's so fun about it. A bunch of randos in their underwear, on a tube, in January. How is this fun, beats me.

I thought 'fun' was supposed to be witty, or slapstick, when someone is doing something funny. Not 'look at me, I'm in my pants on a tube, can you believe it! Arse! Tits! Bits! Farts! hahahaha'

MidnightMeltdown · 13/01/2026 14:02

Can’t get too worked up about it. It’s one day a year. Your poor offended eyes will cope. It’s not compulsory to participate.

You do know just because you disapprove of an event doesn't make it any less of an event right?

And that an event isn't exclusively determined by wearing, or not, of clothes?

No I didn’t know that. Thanks for explaining. 👍

BunnyLake · 13/01/2026 13:44

baroqueandblue · 13/01/2026 13:36

Fucking hell. What a damning theory to explain a harmless bit of fun that might've felt a bit liberating to those who took part.

World not miserable enough for you then?

Well I will admit people on trains in their underwear isn’t my most favourite way to be entertained, or even in my top 1,000 list, but I’m sure there probably would be a sight or two that would give me a laugh.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 13/01/2026 13:41

BunnyLake · 13/01/2026 13:39

I’m having an event on my sofa right now. Just me and the sofa (and my phone), so only a very small event, fully clothed, too nippy in the house to be underwear only.

Plenty of women do in the summer. Or at least wearing skirts so short that they may as well be. I'm not offended by them either.

Well, yea, I've already mentioned them too

baroqueandblue · 13/01/2026 13:36

BunnyLake · 13/01/2026 09:25

Definitely attention seeking, no other excuse for it. I thought actual nightmares were made of people dreaming they’d gone out in public and forgotten to put their skirt or trousers on! Too many people nowadays want to be the star of their own Truman show. Main character syndrome is a blight on civilised society.

Not offended, no.

Sad that's it's come to this though.

T’was a joke 🫤

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 13/01/2026 11:32

And for those going on about "but would you think it's acceptable here?"

Different outfits are acceptable in different situations.

You wouldn't rock up to work in your wedding dress (well unless you were a wedding dress model 🤣) but it's entirely appropriate at your wedding

You wouldn't wear your snow suit to the beach or your bikini to the Alps

I wear very similar to these people to watch Rocky Horror (as do a good chunk of the audience) but I wouldn't dress the same to go to the same theatre the week later to see Mousetrap or Mamma Mia or whatever

It's done for the event. They aren't regularly just catching the Tube in their pants

Plenty of women do in the summer. Or at least wearing skirts so short that they may as well be. I'm not offended by them either.

You're not angry, you're just disappointed?

Mostly nostalgic.

Wordsmithery · 13/01/2026 13:28

I haven't seen this. Is it in the daytime? Because personally I want every possible layer of protection between myself and wandering hands or other body parts during rush hour.

Growlybear83 · 13/01/2026 13:27

I don’t see a problem with it at all. It’s not something I would do, but it would make me chuckle if I came across them on the tube.

If you organised an everyone meet at the local park in your underwear for no other reason than being in your underwear, is that really an event?

Yes...

Moonlightdust · 13/01/2026 13:15

Gross.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 13/01/2026 13:14

And like I say, you can say that about plenty of things people do for fun 🤷‍♀️

This thread illustrates perfectly how much MN has changed.

It used to be fun and funny.

Now it's an exercise in who can be offended the most.
