Saw the spectacle for myself. As a woman in my late 20s I have absolutely no desire to participate in this. Seems like an outdated 2013 “quirky” trend that won’t die. I’m always surprised at the diversity in those who participate - old/young, thin/bigger etc.

Maybe I’m getting older but I really just thought “put it away”

Saw the paps at the St I got off and would be mortified being photographed in my knickers.

Some of the hairy, Casper legs were quite frankly gross!

I think it's disgusting and very unhygienic.
Years ago I used to recoil from seeing men in football shorts all muddy legs on the tube.
Other people have to sit on those seats.
There's a reason overalls etc exist. Not just to protect the wearer. But to protect others as overalls should be removed before mingling. Ditto sportswear.
The fact the tube and bus seats are fabric makes all this more anxiety inducing. Other countries have hard surfaces on bus n train seats. Easy to wipe and hose down.
I was once pricked by i know not what in the upholstery of a bus seat. Went straight to a walk in for tetanus injection. The nurse could see the point of entry. Took it seriously.

I watched a clip recently about hygiene on train seats. Think bringing bed bugs home with you.
Nuff said.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 14/01/2026 02:09

It’s very strange. Some wearing jock strap type underpants.
A tradition like this attract the odd weirdo too.
I don’t see my own leg’s November to March. 🥶

Monty27 · 14/01/2026 02:04

Well it's all about exhibitionism, people hoping to get noticed by someone .
Keep it amongst yourselves I say.

It grossed me out, I wouldn't put my bottom without trousers or a skirt on on a tube seat. It's disgusting. London Underground is the most polluted part of London.

Also most people don't have the physique for it to be visually attractive.

I'm not sure you'd understand even if I said it in words of 1 syllable

Well let’s see. So give a translation because I am not understanding the order the words are in as you have presented them.

BunnyLake · 13/01/2026 16:50

Can you translate it? It looks like the Morecambe & Wise piano sketch - all the right notes but not in the right order.

True thought that is, you could have stopped typing just prior to 'about' and it would have been just as true and perhaps, in a way, truer.

Which is a very fair and accurate comment too 🤣

A one off, bit of fun, event which has been running for 10 years + now is hardly lowering the standards

They don't even travel to the Tube in their underwear, they strip off once they get there. Showing they don't think it's appropriate everywhere...

Oh please, this is MN, there is no room for being sensible about things 😄

Honestly, I sometimes wonder if I have been transported back to Victorian times when reading MN threads. I hope any easily shocked MNers have taken to carrying smelling salts to deal with any attacks of the vapours they might experience when seeing (gasp!!!) people in their underwear.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 13/01/2026 11:09

People are always complaining on here about shorts and skirts that are little more than underwear 🤣

Body hair isn’t gross.

Well, one would hope. However I don't think it's always a given.

BunnyLake · 13/01/2026 16:50

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 13/01/2026 16:15

That doesn't surprise me

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 13/01/2026 14:56

Tight trousers can show you more penis gasps because not a PENIS than those underpants are

I have no idea what any of that means.

BunnyLake · 13/01/2026 15:14

Bagsintheboot · 13/01/2026 15:04

This is a bit silly. Everyone's naked under their clothes, there are dangling willies everywhere you go and if you sit on a tube carriage there is a high chance there'll be one not too far from your face.

I don't like having anyone's crotch near my face on the tube so if it's crowded I stand. Easy peasy.

I’d prefer there were jeans or similar in between us.

Bagsintheboot · 13/01/2026 15:04

BunnyLake · 13/01/2026 14:51

Well that’s good to know. Passengers only have to have a willy encased in a brief near their face instead of an actual dangling one (phew 😁).

A) I have no idea what this event is
B) Is it hair on the women’s legs that you object to?

Edited: I now see that you’ve edited to add a link. Thanks (but I’m not clicking, simply because I have no desire to see a load of Londoners in their pants).

On those grounds, and on the grounds of your reply about hairy legs, YANBU.

Edited

It's done on the day that people feel down. People go to the tube, remove their trousers or skirt and ignore everyone else being half dressed.

Then everyone meets up for a pub lunch.

WoollyRosebud · 13/01/2026 14:59

With the price of travel on the London Underground I can think of better ways to spend my money than riding the trains in my drawers

Yes they might be, but they wouldn’t necessarily be any more revealing than some budgie smuggler swimming trunks.

What’s the difference apart from the location?

there is a difference. And you know it.

Not all actions and clothing are acceptable in all locations.

I don't really care, and it doesn't offend me. But what is the point of this? Fun? I must have zero sense of humour, obviously, as I fail to see what's so fun about it. A bunch of randos in their underwear, on a tube, in January. How is this fun, beats me.

I thought 'fun' was supposed to be witty, or slapstick, when someone is doing something funny. Not 'look at me, I'm in my pants on a tube, can you believe it! Arse! Tits! Bits! Farts! hahahaha'

I hear you 😁. Apparently if you don’t find this all ‘such fun’ (as Miranda’s mother would say), you’ve got a sense of humour by pass. 😏

It does go to show though that you can get humans to do the dumbest things. No wonder cult leaders are so successful, there’s a lot of sheep out there who just follow if someone convincing leads.

BunnyLake · 13/01/2026 14:44

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/01/2026 14:13

I imagine the 14 year old who came up with the idea is still very pleased with himself as his previous project of wearing a 'I look a Silly Prat' badge never caught on.

It might have been someone who thought, what can I do that most people would think was stupid but I can get lots of sheep to follow it.
