Lost passport - help

Sit quietly and take your mind back to when you last had it. Breathe gently and trust that your brain has the information about what happened it it. You just need to find the right neural path to find that memory, starting with when you last actually touched it. Even back to when you last showed if at customs. Then work forward from there.

I would contact the passport office asap to see of the Embassy in Paris can issue a travel document and see if you can rebook the ferry.

I have found that once you have everything organised the passport will be found in a coat pocket or stuffed into a hat...

You need to systematically search every room bit by bit and slowly, I had this before with a driving licence, not as important as a passport granted but still… we found it after the cupboard had been ‘searched’ twice

As other posters have suggested. I've 'lost' my passport twice. Check the scanner on any printer or inside the pages of magazines/documents that your parents usually keep their documents that’s where mine were hiding

When I lost mine - it was stuck to a magazine on the sticky pad which had held a freebie thing

so I would have another look through piles of paperwork and check it hasn’t stuck to something?
lift up everything and check linings of coats and handbags as things can get stuck

My DD was adamant that I lost her passport. Tore the house apart, looked in car under seats etc. Months later driving her back to uni and as we arrive ask if she had any parking permits. She pops open the glove box and there is her passport! No parking permits though…Oddly when searching the car I looked under the seats, under the mats, in the door compartments, console… just not in the glove box.

I agree with the colour thing, that burgundy wasn’t used for as many things so it was easier to spot. Many more navy/black things the new one blends into.

If you were going to put it away now, where would you put it? That horrid sick feeling when you can't find something makes it all the more difficult to find it, ime.

I thought I had lost mine but it was in a zipped compartment of my travel rucksack. I had checked every other pocket but hadn't noticed the one that sits against the bottom of my back. I had slipped it in there after Passport Control on the way home.

Look inside everything. Missed my cousin's wedding as my passport was inside a CD case. Go through every single thing in every single room. It will be somewhere.

Stop panicking deep breath and calmly go through everything. Think back to where you saw it last and work from there. .

Look in all the obvious places - but also look in the places you never would expect it to be in a million years.

when my son was a teenager - the night before his French exchange trip - his passport disappeared. We knew it was in the house - but we couldn’t find it anywhere. we turned the place upside down - eventually it was discovered - in his younger brothers room in the Box of Brio train set.

How it got there we never have never worked out - but the relief on finding it was immense. so search everywhere no matter how ridiculous it seems

We also had that happen. Can't remember if it was a passport ir something else a similar size. Had looked more than once, and pulled the drawer out as far as I could, but then shobe a torch in and could see it at the back.

Is there any chance there is a small zip in the front of your Case that you forgot about?

Pockets, dh usually finds his in a jacket pocket when he can’t find it, mine is usually in my bedside drawer

Could whoever carried it upstairs have been wearing a dressing gown or cardigan with a deep pocket and popped it in a pocket to carry it upstairs then didn’t remove it?

Also have you checked laundry basket?

Can you picture where you were when you asked your mum to put it with theirs? I know it sounds daft but sit with a cup of tea and visualise as much as possible from the last time you know you saw it - What were you wearing? What bag were you using? Did you hand it to your Mum when you asked her to keep it safe?

Last time we lost one, it had been popped horizontally on top of books in a bookcase and then gone down the back of them.

Does your travel insurance cover lost passports? They maybe able to advise the easiest way to get a temporary passport?

what would your mum have taken to the place she keeps documents when she carried the passport as she prob did a few things at the same time eg put it on top of linen or laundry and a book and a tie, and then she went to the cupboard the office and the bedroom and wardrobe.

Have you called lost property at the ferry terminals? How did you get from the ferry to your parent's house?

I'd left mine in the jacket I'd worn when last travelling - I could have sworn I'd put it in its designated spot.

When I lost mine it was in an inside zip pocket of a handbag, found after it had been replaced

You may need to get an emergency travel doc if can’t find it.
