The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

I fucked a lot of footballers in the early 00s.

Tony from Dinnerladies - Andrew Dunne - used to live a couple of doors down from me a few years ago. He liked my dog.

I've been on the radio a lot.

I refused to formally meet Princess Anne when she visited my workplace many years ago. But then we had a brief exchange in the car park as I was wrangling my bike out of the stupid storage things and she was being escorted to a car.

Meryl Streep said "hello" to us as we sheltered from a downpour having just left the theatre in New York where she was playing. She was dashing to her limo.

Once shared a lift with Jimmy Tarbuck in the Queen's Hotel in Leeds.

I'm surprised I'm not featured in Hello myself with all this shoulder rubbing.

Oh I have another one - I have an older friend that co-owned and served at a local cafe the Manic Street Preachers used to eat at circa 1988-90.

Not much to report, they weren't famous at the time and were just regular customers as far as he remembers!

Stillreadingalot · 12/01/2026 12:08

I was at school with the bass player from "Texas"

Gossipisgood · 12/01/2026 12:01

I was 'blessed; by Cliff Richard. Our school was at a teen pop programme filming studio in the 80s & I sneezed. Cliff Richard shouted out 'Bless You' from the stage.

I was taken out for a treat birthday dinner to what was then a new posh hotel in our city centre. It was ruined by Lulu and her entourage at the next table all screeching their heads off loudly throughout their meal.

Arghhhhh!!

DD was at university at the same time as someone who had been in the My Family tv show.
Different DD once saw Victoria Wood's daughter in her university library
My friend's sister's house appeared in a series on one of the ITV channels.

ronconcoke · 12/01/2026 10:44

Just thought of another one!

My parents’ teapot appeared in The Bill when an episode was filmed in their house.

CherryGurl73 · 12/01/2026 10:38

I once accidentally swore at George Clooney...

BobbySox71 · 12/01/2026 09:40

DH went to school with Hugh Grant

Anithos · 12/01/2026 09:33

I once sold a telephone to Terry Jones (Monty Python) He was lovely.
My step mum bumped into Michael Palin in Brighton and started chatting to him because she "knew him from somewhere". She only realised afterwards who he really was!

When I was a student in Cardiff way back when, I was an extra in not one, but two episodes of Pobol Y Cwm.

Clearly this was a high point for S4C and Welsh language television, cruelly overlooked by Bafta, but I reckon they are holding back for the lifetime achievement award.

I fear going back to Wales in case I get mobbed by adoring fans😀

Ha! Me too actually! I’d forgotten that entirely. I was a kid in the school where Hywel Llewellyn taught 😂

OMG, MATT RYAN?!?! I loved that show, was devo when they cancelled it. I thought it was amazing in the role (and still hold hope in my cynical heart he will get a season 2)

That’s him! We went on the same holiday once (me, Matt Ryan…and 30 other teenagers 😂) I ironed his jeans once in frustration at his shit ironing skills. 🙄😉😂

cramptramp · 12/01/2026 08:53

I used to work with Robson Green’s aunt. So did about 50 other people, it was a big office.

KayMarie121 · 12/01/2026 08:52

I had a glass of fizz with Brenda Blethyn once. My friend worked in TV production so I got to go to the premier of a film called I think ‘Girls Night’ by Kay Mellor. She told me she was snogging Michael Caine the next day as she was filming ‘Little Voice’ at the time. She’s a super lady.

I was on 50/50! Our school was participating against a Scottish school. The presenter tripped as she was running between the two sides and had to retake the shot. That's my only memory, I wasn't picked to answer a question and I can't even remember which school won... But I was there! 🤣

Jack80 · 12/01/2026 08:26

I have met David Walliams (not a good person to meet now) I've met Mandy from Hollyoaks and used to look after John Partridge's mum (he played Christian in Eastenders)

Plus my daughters have ridden a horse that has been ridden by Princess Anne AND I have slept in a bed that has previously (several years earlier) been slept in by prince William. So many tenuous claims to fame.

Lol a long time ex of mine had a claim to fame that he had slept in the same bed as Anna Friel ,apparently she was friends with his sister when they were at primary school and had a sleep over at his parents house and slept in his bed just not when he was in it 😂

Magicpaintbrush · 12/01/2026 07:37

When I wasin my twenties I worked as a contact lens artist and some of the work was for movies and tv. I hand painted the lenses worn by Orlando bloom as Legolas in The lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring, and also for Elijah Wood (the bit where he gets stabbed by a poisoned blade and looks really ill). I also painted the lenses for Mike Myers as Dr Evil in Austin Powers 2. And did some tinted lenses for The Beach and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The company I worked for did the lenses for Darth Maul in star wars ep.1 and Mrs Norris the cat in Harry Potter - I didn't pain those though.

Gymnopediegivesmethewillies · 12/01/2026 07:36

My husband is mistaken for Hugh Grant regularly. He’s English, similar age and hair but there the resemblance ends. He’s pretty fat too, which HG definitely isn’t. I find it hilarious.

I'm distant cousins with Sean Bean! There is some family resemblance

I used to frequent a takeaway apparently owned by Sean Beans cousin.
