The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

I've slept with someone who's slept with someone who's been nominated for an Oscar.

I was also backstage a few times with Atomic Kitten and Stops and Blue and some others. Friend is a member of a successful Americana group. On speaking terms with Sue Pollard and a few others.

My legs have been on television, but only from the knees down.

That probably counts as 'partial' rather than 'tenuous'.

Oh i have also been partially on TV, it was a local charity advert my feet were "dancing" 💃

deste · 14/01/2026 18:03

My daughter and I and grandaughter were on a weather ad sponsored by tui for about 6 months, umpteen times a day.

Tenuous, eh?

The headteacher of a school where I used to work finished up as headteacher of a school which was possibly the setting for the first fly-on-the-wall documentary series in a British secondary school.

I have quite a few, but my most memorable was Suzi Quatro.
I was in our local Tesco about a week before Christmas, when everyone had to pay at the tills.
she was in front of me having a very animated chat with the cashier. I thought I recognised her (very distinctive) voice but couldn’t place it.
As she was paying she handed over her Tesco’s vouchers and had some left over.
she turned to me and said that I could have them as she wouldn’t be here because she was going on tour.
still didn’t click who she was.
But she gave them to me with the stipulation that i would only spend them on wine, fine by me!
She then left and I asked the cashier who she was because I couldn’t place her voice.
once I knew I kicked myself because I was a huge fan in my childhood.
apparently she’s a regular at my Tesco but haven’t seen her since.
she was so lovely

Well she’s probably still on tour but hopefully will be back soon and you can thank her again when she’s back in Tesco.
Tgat was a lovely gesture.

Myoldbear · 14/01/2026 13:32

I rang church bells with Alan Titchmarsh.

Got asked out by a world famous footballer once. He told me he had 'fallen in love' with me and he wanted me to drink champagne with him in his room. He wasn't very convincing and luckily I don't like champagne.

A colleague bumped into him a month later and he was trying it on with some other woman.

I have a few more

David Attenborough visited my husbands school when he was a pupil. He didn’t meet him, but my BIL did - there is photographic evidence!

Noel Edmond’s was a neighbour long before he was famous and a mere DJ on Radio Kent.

The Sissons ( Peter was the newsreader) were friends with my parents and they regularly swapped babysitting favours.

Roald Dahl turned up to a book signing or meet the author type of event in our village. ( this was about 1973 I think , so he was fairly well known by then ) .Only nobody else turned up , albeit a few ( 5 I think) children and a couple of organisers! So he spent the morning teaching me how to make paper dolls . I had no idea who he was either , but I do remember him being very tall.

My parents own a chair that was once on TV ,

My parents attended a relatively small dance in their village. The lead act was none other than Elton John! This was just a few months after he had released his first album but a couple of months before he had his famous US trip which threw him into the limelight and made him the rockstar he is today.

I once spoke to Rik Mayall looking into an Estate Agents window he didn’t say much back I recall, sadly this was shortly before he died in 2014 (he was very young)

An acquaintance of my husbands at a student party attended by Prince William at St Andrews, inadvertently nearly knocked him out when he exited the bathroom and bashed the door on his head! His security personnel were not amused!

I also was on national TV for about 3 minutes ( though the whole thing took about 3 hrs to shoot) because I led a national campaign Because of that campaign, I have an address book full interesting personal contact details of various well known figures somewhere about the house.

I realise some of these are less tenuous than others .

Any Neighbours fans?
My son sold some garden edging to “Ned” from Neighbours.
(Ben Hall is the actor)

MysticChevron · 14/01/2026 11:52

My grandfather acted as flight engineer for various royalty, Heads of State and celebrities.

Mauhea · 14/01/2026 11:52

I was bitten by a swan in the city where they filmed Hot Fuzz (thankfully it was just the one swan)

KoalaBlue1 · 14/01/2026 11:49

My brother in law’s nephew was in the Aussie R & B band ~ CDB ~ in the 90’s.
Not sure if they ever made it to Uk, Europe

My friend's mum went on holiday to somewhere in Spain in the 80s and her friend shagged Graham Souness. Looked him up. Looked like one of Harry Enfield's scousers.

But that was "hot" in the 80s Graham souness was a bit of a heartthrob!

My Granny was at school with Merle Oberon, who played Cathy in the 1940s Wuthering Heights with Laurence Olivier. Apparently the nuns were really mean to her.

I had my gold Duke of Edinburgh award (local presentation) presented by jimmy saville.
I had a picture next to him that was on my nanas wall for a long while. It mysteriously disappeared a while back 🤣

Mr NCN turned his car round once on David Essex driveway.

Blimey, I hope it didn’t go to his head

I’ve used Eric Clapton’s downstairs loo, and sat on his unmade bed. Unfortunately he wasn’t in it at the time, or even in the country!

Be glad you dodged the last two👍

You've no idea how pleased I am now!

I shudder at the thought-the poster said 'famous children presenter' and we got Sir David

God knows why,but looking back,im sooooo relieved

My father was one of those parents who didnt give a fuck where we where or what we where doing, and without taking anything away from the proper victims of the men who did the vile abuse,im so glad that at the time I was majorly disappointed

As long as we where not clinging to him,we could wander off anywhere and my father wouldn't have noticed anything amiss (this was the late 80's ish)

Father of the year he is not
