The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

I’ve name changed for this as I’ve told this story many times. A team visited our school to record some of us to provide the soundtrack for music performances at Grange Hill. I have no idea how this came to pass, I was about 12 at the time. They needed a school with a tuba player, which was me!

There was a kid in the show who played the tuba, and I provided the parping sounds. I was paid with a Grange Hill badge and a mug!

In a Central London pub my DH once asked Boris Johnson, who he absolutely loathes, if he wanted a game of pool. Boris Johnson said no.

I served Vanessa Feltz at Waitrose when I was 16. I only realised when I saw her name on her debit card.

Same, but it was Eddie Izzard.I served.

Oh and Claudia Winkleman before she was famous bought me a lovely bunch of flowers for doing her a favour, she was and probably still is a very lovely woman. Went to a few celeb parties when younger.

Imelda Staunton gave me a cough sweet when I couldn't stop coughing at the theatre. (She was in the audience, not in the play).

I was on the TV quite a lot in the late 90s ( and in magazines) Used to get recognised quite a lot.

Much less now, although someone did a few months ago much to my daughter’s amusement.

During HCP training, I had a mentor who nursed one of the Kray twins up until his death.

My mate's mum worked with one of them in prison. Said he was vile and truly evil

In the 1970s, the Chairman of Cowdenbeath Football Club asked me why my dad wasn't at the game that day. (I was on First Aid Duty.)

As a First Aider, I got tea and biscuits in the Directors' Lounge and was allowed to use the loo there.

Bonnie Tyler once asked me if I was alright. I was not alright. It was nothing serious though.

I was an intern at the agency that made the Spice Girls Wannabe video... I was on set when it was recorded. I brought coffees for people and marvelled at my colleagues speaking on hands free phones.

I used to often watch that video on french mtv followed by a video by french band Miossec which featured my future sister in law dancing as her partner was in the band.

I worked with Ricky Gervais’ relative.

In the same team, I worked with someone whose gran was the late queen’s cousin.

The Gladiator Cobra visited my son's school . My son asked him if he could have his number so he could come wrestle with his Daddy.

I held the door open for Graham Norton, although it could have been the other way round, can’t quite remember! But he gave me a dazzling, charming smile. He was really quite captivating in that moment! (Not that I had any others to compare it to).

My FIL was invited to Queen Elizabeth's coronation.

I saw Alvin Stardust buying a pair of trousers in M&S in Kirkcaldy.

Queen Elizabeth gave my husband a lift in her Land Rover and joined in a conversation about a boxing match. (DH had been riding in the back with the stag she shot, but it started to rain. She told him to come up front and budged up to make room - she had a driver.)

I served the actress Georgina Hale once, when she was appearing in panto at our local theatre.

Back in the day when T.V. would do a show at Christmas from a hospital.I was on the ward for filming ,Gerry and The Pacemakers were the headline act.It was a children’s ward at Westminster Children’s Hospital, which is now rather nice apartments.

My Mother and all the neighbours watched at home and my Mother said she was embarrassed by how often I was on screen.I have never seen it myself.

elliejjtiny · 11/01/2026 01:12

I met a police horse who had met Queen Elizabeth. Apparently he had stuck his nose in her handbag looking for snacks!

ForWittyTealOP · 11/01/2026 01:12

I didn't recognise Pauline Quirke in a supermarket where I was a cashier and asked her for ID because her cheque was over £50.

I knew someone who was in a Toploader video.

Years ago, I won a writing competition and part of the prize was lunch with the judges, including authors John Mortimer and Fay Weldon. They were both huge characters and very entertaining. John Mortimer sang an old music hall song which he dedicated to my youngest dc. It was brilliantly surreal.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/01/2026 01:10

A band that won the World Pipe Band Championship practised in the classroom next to mine.
