The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

Walking down the street in Belsize Park with my DC, Helena Bonham Carter was behind us and commented to her own DC that my DC looked lovely and well behaved!

i used to serve him regularly in the shop where I worked 😊

He was playing a concert at the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy.

One for the Scots. When I was 16, our school choir was one of the supporting acts at a charity concert in the Carnegie Hall (Dunfermline), headlined by Dorothy Paul.

Another one for Scots: the accordion and fiddle group that I played in did a couple of concerts at the Carnegie Hall with Alastair MacDonald as compere.

Another group that I was in was the support for Jimmy Shand Jnr's band. He wasn't very pleasant to us. We had arranged to take over a particular dance - the second set - had the music all ready...and he switched to another dance without telling us.

I sat opposite Kate Moss on a flight to Barbados. She was facing rearward in club/business and I was facing forward.

I have danced a Scottish Reel with Brian Blessed. Im Four Foot 10 so my feet didn't touch the floor much. He was exactly as you would imagine!

I also met Jimmy Saville on the bus but less said about that the better.

Another one.
My daughter once served ‘Anthony Callea’, from a series of Australia’s Got Talent.
It was in the bottle shop at supermarket where she worked.
When he got no reaction …. He said, “Don’t you know who I am”
He has gone on to do very well. Not a fan of him though.

I've spent Christmas at Jimmy Nail's Mum's house.
I've washed Martin Brundle's Mum's hair.
Harry Styles spoke to me at one of his concerts, but only to check on the girl behind me who had fainted.

Jimmy Nail once stopped his car and asked me and my best friend, both age 11, where the prison was. I realised it was him after I had given him directions and he was driving away.

Another one for the folkies: my late husband sang in a singaround led by Gordon Bok (at Keith Folk Festival).

Once pressed the button for a lift in Saks 5th avenue, doors opened it was absolutely rammed. Dawn French was at the front. Dad said. ‘There’s no space is there?’ She shook her head and the lift closed.

he’d retell it as ‘tried to get in a lift with dawn french but there wasn’t room

Another one, had a drink and a chat with Adam Hills in Adelaide 30 years ago. I’m so cool.

MrsMorrisey · 11/01/2026 02:49

My husband went to school with Kylie Minogue and had a crush on her.

CountFucula · 11/01/2026 02:46

Gok Wan and his film crew filmed me walking along the street. He gave me a ‘you go girl’ look.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

I went ro college with Julian Clary. He had bleach blonde hair, dark eyeliner, was really tall, wore a green flying suit and used to walk through the refectory like a sort of god. He was absolutely gorgeous and I fancied him like crazy. . . I'm female. I used to try to catch his eye. 😂🤣🤣😂 I think I was a bit thick back then.

caramac04 · 11/01/2026 02:42

My nephew was an extra in Waterloo Road
I lived in the next street to Peter Shilton (England goalkeeper)
My friends dad was the pianist for Gene Pitney
I knew a finalist in the GBBO

Sigil · 11/01/2026 02:42

My best friend was a model on the tv show Funhouse

I was ostentatiously coughed over by Heather Small as she walked past me as I was smoking

My friend was one of 2 of Madonna’s body guards for 3 yrs until recently. My friend and the other body guard lived in her house with the family. I didn’t know but when he told me I looked at photos of her online and he was in every single one. He moved on because it consumed his whole life.

My best friends uncle was a bodyguard of Madonna years ago. He was in the film in bed with Madonna and often pictured in the papers running in Hyde Park with her. Has nothing but nice things to say about her.

KoalaBlue1 · 11/01/2026 02:37

I once saw ‘Shane Warne’, former Australian cricketer at Melbourne airport … on his phone.
RIP Shane

We usually keep that anecdote within the family 😉 It would be a better tenuous claim to fame though 😂

🤣

Met Leonardo Di Caprio on stairs at a hotel we were both staying in in Glasgow a few years ago. He is quite ridiculously handsome. My colleague went weak at the knees. He said hello and seemed very accustomed to the reaction.

HoseGoblin · 11/01/2026 02:28

When we met, my husband lived in the house a member of The Sweet used to own. He would occasionally still get royalty cheques for him in the post.

I read this very quickly and anticipated that it said ' from my great aunty Mary's hand' 😂🤣

I have an ikea dresser from an old flatmate paid for by Madonna (she worked for her years ago).

Tom Finney sometimes used to eat his sandwiches in my great aunty Mary's shed
