The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

At school, I had the swimmer Sharon Davies' old Latin textbook.

Beautiful actor Aaron Pierre has many cousins, one of whom is my PT.

Princess Margaret was in the audience when I modelled the updated Girl Guide uniform in my early teens. In a blink and you'll miss it I appeared on The Clothes Show walking the runway.

I've narrowly missed seeing Tom Hardy in the flesh more than once.

WhamBamThankU · 11/01/2026 09:18

Oh I have something to add! My cousins friend went out with Alan shearer in the early 00s and a friend of a friend of a friend was dating the lead singer of shed seven. An arsehole by all accounts.

My mother had a go at Rod Stewart after a flight from Malaga to Heathrow - she went up to him at the baggage carousel and asked him why he had cancelled his concert in Marbella (which we were supposed to go to). I was so embarrassed!

Also, for older readers, my parents were friends with Tony Hancock and his wife. They used to come for dinner at our house when I was very small.

I was in the choir of the school that “Jim’ll Fit It” fixed it for Rolf Harris to do a massive painting for us.

TwistedOrange · 11/01/2026 09:12

I helped Pamela Anderson get changed at an awards show
I held a door open for Victoria Beckham and she said 'thank you'. We had a deep connection that continues to this day
I got off with Christopher Quinten from Coronation Street

Love the fact you got off with Brian Tilsely 😂🤣

I went to school with a successful Tartan Noir author.

It's Val isn't it 😀

CautiousLurker2 · 11/01/2026 09:06

My kids went to school with the kids of Dervla Kirwin and Rupert Penry Jones, Marcus Brigstocke and Gillian Anderson - amongst others. I was on the PTA with [now ex-] partner of one. They were very normal in the playground at pickup and on school fete days. DD was BFs with daughter of a film director, so often had a cuppa when collecting her from playdates while Al Pacino was face-timing/zooming them in the kitchen. All of them were, well, just ordinary folk doing ordinary things and seemed pleasant enough. Did narrowly miss colliding with Gillian’s monster range rover in the car park, though. She was ignoring the one way system…

My brother rolled down a sand dune on holiday, straight into the back of Judith Chalmers. She was most displeased.

My legs appeared in an advert for paper carry bags.

Now that's great tenuous link Grin Love the one about being coughed on by Heather Small too.

Chataigne · 11/01/2026 09:02

I've got (or rather had, it died in the end) Jeremy Irons' liquidiser.

I think some people on this thread aren't getting that this is about tenuous links to famous people.

asparagusffern · 11/01/2026 09:02

DoraSpenlow · 11/01/2026 09:02

One for the older MN’s, many years ago I served drinks to Russ Abbot in a disco he gave me a big tip. He then commandeered the DJ’s microphone to sing his hit Atmosphere and got me to join in, he was lovely and very funny.

He wasn't lovely if he was subjecting you to that song.

I once had a drink in a café where the Crankies came in and ordered soup. I'm taller than Janet Cranky, I'm not used to being taller than anyone.

CharlesPetrescu · 11/01/2026 08:47

I sold my car to the pop star Daniel Bedingfield. It was quite a few years ago now. I wasn't there and neither was he- his agent came to see the car and met my brother.

Cactusali · 11/01/2026 08:46

i stepped in front of John Cleese’s Rolls Royce in Notting Hill. He glared at me.
Rick Wakeman stood on my foot in a branch of Boots in Oxford Street. He too glared at me.
