The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

Growing up in a famous seaside town there were often famous people around, those doing the shows etc.
I was working in a shop in town with a large window that looked onto a set of traffic lights. The lights went to red and a car stopped. In the passenger seat was the late, great Les Dawson (who lived fairly locally) mynfriend and I waved frantically and he turned and did that face he used in his sketches as Cissie and Ada 🤣
Some years previously there was a carnival in the town for the centenary (i think) I worked in a small cafe on the front and while I was there, a stunningly beautiful young woman entered with a man who asked if we had some water. We did and off they went.
I later realised that the stunning lady was the former Miss World Wilnelia Merced who went on to marry Bruce Forsyth.
All I can say is that Old Brucey was punching way, way above his weight 🤣🤣

Oh! And the nurse who took care of me in hospital used to be a midwife and delivered a baby to a 72 year old woman. She was rich, husband was rich, no heirs so they thought they would produce one by hook or by crook. Nurse said it was really sad, neither were interested in the baby and they wouldn’t be around for him growing up.

My tenuous link to a famous person is my best friend is the cousin of the woman who writes Call The Midwife.

Nightmarehairinjury · 11/01/2026 11:35

I gave Desmond Tutu a cup of tea.

BoredReceptionist · 11/01/2026 11:34

Richard Osman was in the year below me at secondary school. I was entirely unaware of his existence at the time!

My DS was sitting near Joanna Lumley at the theatre once, and she kept giving him filthy looks. He had no idea why, but he's been mistaken several times for a celebrity with the same sort of hair, so perhaps she thought it was him.

muddyford · 11/01/2026 11:34

My mother used to clean for the parents of a woman who won an Olympic gold medal.

Gymnopediegivesmethewillies · 11/01/2026 11:34

My husband’s nan’s best friend was the mum of Davy Jones from The Monkees. How’s that for tenuous!

ItsAMoooPoint · 11/01/2026 11:33

Oh and Gareth Gates was in the choir that sang at my parents' friends' wedding.

ItsAMoooPoint · 11/01/2026 11:32

A family friend was Vince Vaughn's body double when he was filming something in London a fair few years ago. But what makes my claim to fame even more impressive (😂) is that this guy's sibling was a seat filler and also waiter at the Oscars. So I'm basically in there with all of Hollywood.

Rictasmorticia · 11/01/2026 11:32

My Brother’s best mates’ brother was in the same class a Dudley Moore in primary School.

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 11/01/2026 11:31

I was behind Andy Whyment (Kirkie from Coronation Street) at the checkout in Warrington Ikea. He's a lot smaller than he looks on screen. 🙂

BettyButterBum · 11/01/2026 11:30

I went in to Mungo Jerrys house about 50 years ago. He had a pond with fish in his entrance hall!

I am married to someone who once stroked Bob Geldolf’s dog in a lift. He got growled by Geldolf not the dog.

firstofallimadelight · 11/01/2026 11:28

My friend went to school with John peels son.
I worked in a bar that regularly served the cast of holly oaks.
I had a sleep over at a friends cousins house when I was a child, they lived next door to one of the chuckle brothers
mark lamar once filmed a interview on my street and I got his autograph and was in the background of the shot.

When I was about 15, I was in Leicester square with friends and we saw David Baddiel.
I shouted 'Oi Baddiel' really loudly, he turned around and we all ran and hid in a red phone box.

I was interviewed as a passerby by MTV, when we visited new york. They filmed me looking left and right as well at the buildings around me. I was 18, it was a couple of months after my brother had a traumatic death and I cannot even remember what they asked or said to me! I also have no idea if it ever aired. But it was exciting haha..

Does this even count?

If not, I once saw mick hucknall with a very tall blonde who was clearly a model. She towered over him!

Edited

He must have a thing about talk blondes ,a friend of mine who is also a tall blonde claims to have snogged him.

Dawnintheageofaquariams · 11/01/2026 11:20

My brother backed Amy Winehouse before she was famous, recorded her early demos.

francii · 11/01/2026 11:20

I was stood next to tilda Swinton in the queue for an Elton John gig in Glasgow. She was being mobbed by people chatting to her so I just left her to it. She’s every bit as ethereal in real life!

I was flying to Germany in 1998 and Stephen Hendry was on the flight.

He was in the queue right behind me at a Little Chef at a services on the M6 circa 1987.

About 60 years ago (see username) I rescued from a bin at our local swimming pool the greaseproof sandwich wrapping Dave Clark (as in The Dave Clark Five) had discarded, and stuck it worshipfully in my autograph album. I’ve still got it.

I love this. It's the epitome of what this thread is about.

OldBird79 · 11/01/2026 11:14

I recently and somehow managed to catch the eye of, pull, bed and then get dumped by someone reasonably famous - depending on the scene if you're into it. It was a confidence boost like no other but is now confidence destroying heartbreak like no other 😔
