The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

Oooooh, I’ve just remembered one. An actor who used to play a teacher in Grange Hill - not one of the main characters but recognisable if you were of a certain age which I was, was my supply cover when I had a week’s leave to attend a funeral abroad. I didn’t actually meet him but he left me a lovely letter saying how grateful he was for the detailed work I had left. As someone who has since done supply teaching that was a massive compliment 😂

I spoke to Darius from Popstars on the phone like 20+ years ago. And when I used to use Instagram years ago, Chris Brown yelled at me then blocked me (thank god)

LoopingStar · 11/01/2026 13:12

The English teacher of a former manager was Phillip Pullman.

RobertaFirmino · 11/01/2026 13:10

I once sold a television to Peter Beardsley.

i stepped in front of John Cleese’s Rolls Royce in Notting Hill. He glared at me.
Rick Wakeman stood on my foot in a branch of Boots in Oxford Street. He too glared at me.

This reminds me I once almost got knocked over by Alan Yentob as he was driving out of the carpark at Broadcasting House. I didn't realise cars came out of there so wasn't looking where I was going. I initially thought it was Salman Rushdie, but realised later I had gotten them mixed up!

LoopingStar · 11/01/2026 13:07

Someone I know from university was an extra on Dr Who.

Someone I knew from the school run was an extra on Smoggie Queens.

I went to primary shool with the singer from Scouting For Girls.

James Marriott might have mentioned my daughter in an interview that my daughter can no longer find, tenuousness at its finest.

I sat at a table next to Liz Hurley and Billy-Ray Cyrus a few months ago. Rural pub, most bizarre!!

They are the oddest couple arn't they ?

Just remembered another one 😆 my grandma knew Violet Carson ( Ena Sharples from Corrie) they were from the same area in Manchester

Eskarina1 · 11/01/2026 12:56

I was interviewing for a grad scheme (that I was successful in getting) and Joints Vegas was at the hotel (2003 so he was relatively famous). He got very vocally and humorously upset about the cruelty of assessment centres for young graduates.

My granny had been good friends with Christopher Robin Milne, so we were banned from Winnie the Pooh books due to his feelings about it. This was in the 80s and I never quite believed her until the movie came out.

smallglassbottle · 11/01/2026 12:54

The garage I used to work at used to service Brian Ferry's sister's car.

worrisomeasset · 11/01/2026 12:53

My grandparents lived next door to Harry Secombe's sister.

FunnyOrca · 11/01/2026 12:52

Working as a lifeguard, I once gave Anne Widecombe directions

Also went to university with the baby that was the sun’s face in the Teletubies

Oh yes, forgot this one. My husband was once stopped on the street by that bloke who presented big breakfast. He asked what my husband had for breakfast and he said nothing, the bloke told him to make something up and he said toast and walked off, totally bemused. He'd not long moved to the uk and he thought brits were bonkers 🤣

Purplecatshopaholic · 11/01/2026 12:47

I was once interviewed by BBC Scotland about my thoughts on Scotrail trains.

GrokeSanctuary · 11/01/2026 12:46

I've seen Robert Plant in the co-op

Fullofacold · 11/01/2026 12:43

NC'd for this as I've told a few people about some of it. I've got a few:

My arm was on the BBC news once shaking the hand of ex-President George Bush Snr.

Rowan Atkinson''s kids went to the same school as my DS, and I let him I go in front of me in the grocery queue at the Co-op once, because he had two items in his basket and I had loads.

Many years ago, I sold David Essex some socks when I was working in the Littlewoods store in Romford.

I once had my hands on a photo of Donny Osmond until it was ripped out of my hands by another girl, but I had touched the photo that he had touched, so obviously I haven't washed my hands ever since. 😂

Oops, nearly forgot: I was nearly run over ON A ZEBRA CROSSING by Mark Knopfler on the King's Road. Years ago, talking on his brick phone.

DeclineandFall · 11/01/2026 12:43

.
My old university flatmate’s parents nearly sold their house to the policeman in Allo Allo.

Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 11/01/2026 12:41

I sat four places away from Janet Street-Porter on an easyJet flight.

IhateHPSDeaneCnt · 11/01/2026 12:39

@BlueWorkDay if you worked as a runner on the Spice Girls video, do you remember a remember a runner called T* who Mel B apparently pleasured under a table in the Star Pub on the Portobello Road?!
Oh, my tenuous claims to fame - met royalty loads of time but Purple Prince was best, worked with a Minogue, stalked Michael Palin - latter was complete accident! Managed to bump into him three days in a row in two different cities!

Parry5timesbeforedeath · 11/01/2026 12:38

My sister's husband lived next door to someone who had his foot trodden on by Prince Phillip at a summer ball.

almondflake · 11/01/2026 12:36

LadyMacbethWasFierce · 11/01/2026 12:30

And I went to college with Sir Rex Harrison’s daughter (he was governor of the Falklands when it was invaded).

And our children were friends with the children who were the subject of the film “We Bought a Zoo” and used to visit the zoo a lot.

It was a fun distraction thinking of all these.

GrokeSanctuary · 11/01/2026 12:28

I was in a queue in TK Maxx behind Rusty Lee.

I shared a joke with Brian Adams at a pizza place in Paris.

My ex colleague's brother was in EastEnders.

My friend is descended from The Moonies cult leaders.

Katy Price's decorator also did our bathroom when I rented twenty odd years ago ( and it looked crap).
