Neighbours unpleasant vehicle

Inspired by another thread , my neighbour is spoiling my view and bringing down the neighbourhood !😁.

My neighbour two doors down has parked an old ambulance ) which he plans on restoring)
directly opposite

it really spoils my nice view from my window and is a bit jarring every time I open the curtains or when I walk home I occasionally have a mild panic when it looks like there is an ambulance outside my home . Apart from my view and emotional reaction to seeing an ambulance ( past trauma family member killed )

I have asked him nicely to move it as it spoils my view ( I didn’t want to go into other reasons ). But it is still there

it could be moved to the side road or to another home he has recently inherited.

I am not going to do anything unpleasant like slash his tires or be aggressive

am I being unreasonable to ask him to move it again? should I suck it up and get over myself ? or ask his wife as I have nice rapport with her ( which our conversation could ruin)

it disproportionately upsets me but I have already asked him once
what would you do ?

It wasn’t just someone I knew, it was my parents killed by a drunk driver outside my home just after making them grandparents and , yes I did see a psychiatrist for a year after

I appreciate it’s my issue not his , and accept he is parked legally and there is nowt I can do .

as I’ve said I don’t own the view I just used to find it lovely to sit and look out at

hes a great neighbour and I don’t want to slash tires or get unpleasant with him etc just really really wish it wasn’t the first thing I see every morning and as I walk up to my house

That's horrific, I'm so sorry Flowers
If he's generally a nice neighbour then I think it would help to explain your reasons, just tell him you're not being a Mrs bucket but if it's possible for him to move it just a bit you really would appreciate it

Never said I was going to slash tires in fact I specifically stated that in my OP

i have repeatedly said he is a good neighbour and I don’t wasn’t to even ask him again as it would be awkward

also fairly certain he is parked legally

i alway read carefully if I feel like posting something arsey

The point was, saying slashing tyres is “unpleasant” was a bloody understatement.

Given your cordial relationship with him, I would leave it now. Problem with these things is the more you focus on something the more it annoys you. We've all done it. It's better I suppose to have this niggle than a falling out and hostility.

Given that other than this issue, he's quite a good neighbour, could you tell him that?

He might be more inclined to move it if he knows why it bothers you so much.

You don’t own the view, so he doesn’t have to move it. You’ve asked once and it’s still there. That’s your answer.

As far as slashing tyres are concerned, that’s not unpleasant, that’s criminal damage and aggression will either get you laughed at, or worse.

They always used to be one of these large, white vans parked outside my front window, every major holiday and bank holiday, for days on end. I only live in a small house so I felt like I was looking out from my window onto a white prison wall each time. I eventually found out whose it was, and it was near neighbour. When I next saw him, I asked if he’d mind moving it and I explained that I felt trapped when this was right inside my window. He was fine about it and I noticed that a few weeks later, when there was a holiday, he was parking it a little further up the street. I tucked a note under his windscreen wiper with a thank you, my name and house number and a smiley face. And next time I saw him he smiled and said “I got your note“.

Your problem is that you’ve already asked your neighbour and he is ignoring it. I suggest that another explanation might help, making sure that you explain how it affects you and asking if he’d mind parking elsewhere.

i completely understand how you feel about this.

Beautifully handled by you 👏

He’s my neighbour and ( apart from this ) a good neighbour ie tucks my bin back in if I am away - I ask them to park one of their
( smaller ) cars in my driveway when we are away so I am not going to grass him up ( I think it’s all kosher anyway ) nor am I going to threaten to slash his tires as someone suggested

its my issue I am going to have to get used to it

Maybe you could just write him a gently worded note on a pretty postcard/ notelet, including the specific emotional trigger. Sometimes, things put in writing, can have more impact.
appologies if you’ve already done this.
I hope the situation doesn’t go no too long.

Unfortunately you don’t own the view from your house.

Do we actually know what the view was? Reminds me of the sea view scene in Fawlty Towers.

HelpMeGetThrough · 11/01/2026 13:10

Bloke next door to me has got a bloody great camper that we can see from the lounge window. it’s like something out of sodding Ghostbusters with all the kit on the roof.

Nothing to be done, not that I would anyway.

Carycach4 · 11/01/2026 13:02

Your street would have been green fields once and building itimpinged on somebody's nice view!

Wow, who spat in your tea?

Gicen the amount of vile aggression that poster has displayed in two short posts, I imagine people spit in her tea quite regularly. They won‘t necessarily tell her about it, of course. 😆

In another thread a poster was asked not to put stuff on her window sill.

That thread has since been removed by MNHQ for breaking guidelines. Not sure why, anyone have any ideas?

UANBI

We have covenants in our road which prevents commercial vehicles or any other large or eyesore vehicles parking outside residents houses. Whether they could be enforced is another matter.

We had a neighbour who worked at JLR stealing motor parts which he stored round the side of his house. He would do up really old land rovers on his driveway and we would have three on the drive in progress and two of his own on the road outside his house. He would be hammering and drilling to 10pm at night, it made the neighbours life a misery. We couldn't look up the road anymore as all you could see where battered muddy vehicles.

Somehow a petition was drawn up by the whole road with the threat that if he didn't sell up and move his stealing would be revealed to his bosses. He moved to another area in the same borough and presumably made their lives miserable like he did ours.

I drove past a house out in the country the one day and noticed his son on his driveway with another heap of tatty old land rovers doing them up. The apple never falls far ....

When I lived on a terraces street I really hated tge few neighbours who had high sided vans - if they parked in front of tge house, half on the pavement, literally all you could see from your front window was tge side of the van. Mostly it was a guy who had a camper but he moved it every day because it was his only vehicle. But at one point we had some people who bought one of those big vans the roll up back door, slightly bigger than a supermarket delivery van. It was outside my window for 2 weeks without being moved, and worse thru used it as a kind of workshop to work on old furniture with the attendant smells and noise. I saw him in the street one day and asked if they were ever planning to move it and he told me that they didn’t want it in front of their house because it blocked the light! I must have looked as I felt because he went quiet and it was moved to in front of theirs later that day!

CoolPlayer · 11/01/2026 12:17

I don’t think you can do anything about it tbh. I had an ambulance ride with my daughter (we didn’t know what was wrong with her at the time but it seemed bad) an for a couple of years after hearing or seeing a ambulance would give me massive stop still anxiety, so it can happen xx

If SORN'd them it should not be kept on the highway......... this one is.
A SORN'd vehicle should be kept on private property

Ah kerb Vs driveway.

Whosthetabbynow · 11/01/2026 12:03

I wouldn’t like it cluttering up the road or blocking my view either but unfortunately we can’t police other people. Asking usually results in lots of heel digging. We have a neighbour who throws out leftover food for the birds. It makes me want to scream because it attracts vermin. Every time I see it I report it to street cleaning who come and clear it up. It’s like a game but if I asked her to stop I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t. People exist as insular individuals nowadays. They don’t give a shit.

As for the lame excuse that someone you knew was killed and ambulance triggers you you should be seeking psych app instead of expecting the world to work around you and you only

You are being very unresonable, what he has on his drive is nothing to do with you and you were out of order to even go and ask him to move it,im surprised he didnt ask you to move your house instead. What is it with so many badly mannered british people living in their matchbox homes acting like lords thinking they own the whole street, get a grip.
