AIBU to report neighbour

Neighbouradviceneeded · 10/01/2026 16:17

I’ve just heard the neighbour shout at her husband she also swore. (open window). We don’t speak

I’ve heard her shout before a while back, should I be concerned?

There are two older children in the household - one is school age but must be in their mid teens.

Are you saying you think she's abusing her family? Other than shouting is there any other evidence of anything criminal?

You could report it to the police I suppose but I doubt they'd do much. It seems a bit intrusive of you though. You say she's awful but you do not speak to her and don't really know anything about her life. Anything you overhear is not in context and really not your business.

Is it half term?

I know it's only January but maybe my long week was several long weeks and now it's February and the crazy half term posts are happening.

floppybit · 10/01/2026 16:33

Well, if shouting and swearing is a crime you can prepare my cell.

HoseGoblin · 10/01/2026 16:32

God I had a neighbour like you once, curtain twitching busybody. The number of times I had to open the door to some poor resigned looking PC and deal with "no he's not murdering me we're playing countdown too enthusiastically for her liking, we're not running a drug ring I ordered pizza at 2am because I'm on nights, and our wild "party" is two other people sitting here playing Monopoly". Absolute menace she was.

pimplebum · 10/01/2026 16:32

If you are seriously concerned that the kids are being abused report to nspcc and to their school if you know which one they go to

if you are concerned she is rough and uncouth sadly that isnt a crime

if you are worried he is abused , speak to him and ask how he is snd maybe give him a number if a charity he can contact ( you risk them never talking to you again )

itsthetea · 10/01/2026 16:31

and Not everyone goes to posh schools to learn how jog to sound rough - I do a good fishwife myself on the right circs

Sorry that happened to you

Why do you think I’m being creepy - just concerned?

But there's nothing to be concerned about - it's normal for adults to sometimes snap and shout at each other.

Ok, but her husband is an adult. If he is "struggling" with it, he can take the kids and leave. Where were you planning to report it? Social services? "Hello, my neighbour is sounding really rough and I think her husband might be struggling with it?"..
Have you really thought it through?

.

RightOnTheEdge · 10/01/2026 16:28

Don't be ridiculous!

Are you a man and this is reverse situation thread?

Boomer55 · 10/01/2026 16:27

She want to report someone from yelling at their spouse? Seriously? 😳😂

amber763 · 10/01/2026 16:27

Omg mind your own business and stop listening into your neighbour's domestics!

She is awful it’s not the first time I’ve heard her be sound so off with her husband and kids. Granted it’s been a while. I thought she sounded aggressive at worst or ‘rough’ to say the least and her husband and children might be struggling with it.

Maybe she's menopausal or has health issues or is being abused. Why would you call the police!? "The shouting police? L" 😂😂

If it was a man shouting at his wife, would you have posted on here? Doubt it. What words did she shout?

Strange take.
I have seen many post where people have heard men shouting at their wives.... they usually get told to log it with 101 or similar.

I had a neighbour call the police on me once out of spite because I purposely avoided him IRL and then blocked him on social media for being creepy.

Your OP is creepy. Hearing a sharp tone of voice is not necessarily DV.

Report to whom, the Shouting Police?

Not sure she just sounded so sharp.

Sharp?

They were arguing, she was probably angry.

Have you never had or overheard an argument before?

MyLimeGuide · 10/01/2026 16:22

Erm no.

Spaghettifountain · 10/01/2026 16:21

What a weird take. People argue and shout.

Branleuse · 10/01/2026 16:21

Grown ups do sometimes get cross with each other.
