AIBU to report neighbour

Neighbouradviceneeded · 10/01/2026 16:17

I’ve just heard the neighbour shout at her husband she also swore. (open window). We don’t speak

I’ve heard her shout before a while back, should I be concerned?

There are two older children in the household - one is school age but must be in their mid teens.

What did she shout???

If she shouted "I'm going to stab you with this kitchen knife I have in my hand" then I suggest calling the police.

If she shouted "You're a f*cking prick, you've put your red pants in with my white shirts and dyed them all pink" then just mind your own business.

Neighbouradviceneeded · 10/01/2026 18:21

@K0OLA1D well I suppose it would be the police if it warranted it.

Just out of curiosity though op. You weren't considering calling the police were you?

If there was physical fighting and arguing 24/7 then yes report to police they will involve social services if the kids are at risk. But sounds like they're just having a heated moment and shes had to raise her voice at him for not listening or doing something shes asked. Wouldnt say it was report worthy though.

Ok my arse has been handed to me, as they say on here

I won’t be reporting anything to anyone.

Have a sense of perspective OP.

People are allowed to shout at each other. Even to swear at another.

What you SHOULD report is violence and/or abuse.

Can't you make a distinction?

AgnesMcDoo · 10/01/2026 17:06

Report for what and to who?

She is awful it’s not the first time I’ve heard her be sound so off with her husband and kids. Granted it’s been a while. I thought she sounded aggressive at worst or ‘rough’ to say the least and her husband and children might be struggling with it.

Sounded "rough"...? And her husband and kids "may be struggling with it" Do you literally have nothing to do in your own life? I'm genuinely baffled that this is of any actual concern to you.

DoIdriveaVauxhallZafira · 10/01/2026 17:03

I had neighbours who were perfectly nice but the woman shouted at her children & partner often. To be fair, the house was too small for them so they were on top of each other and the landlord kept it in poor condition, I think it must have been really stressful.

It might not have been how I was brought up but I never saw or heard anything that sounded worrying - I come from a quiet family, some families are rowdy 🤷‍♂️

Let me guess. You think it's a safeguarding issue and your neighbour is gaslighting her husband?

LilyBunch25 · 10/01/2026 17:00

Neighbouradviceneeded · 10/01/2026 16:44

Ok I’ve got the message

But don’t MNetters take notice of who you living next door to?

Maybe I’m being harsh then? I just wasn’t brought up to be like that.

You must have led an unbelievably sheltered life and also live somewhere thats usually incredibly quiet to overreact like this. Yes we take notice of our neighbours but not to this ridiculous extent.

LilyBunch25 · 10/01/2026 16:59

To whom? For what?? People argue or get cross. This seems like extreme over reacting by you.

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 10/01/2026 16:59

Report her to who, for heavens sake? Are you quite mad?

JLou08 · 10/01/2026 16:57

You're spending too much time on MN. I know on here people say that someone is abusive if they raise their voice or swear and they tell the OP they need to leave but in the real world most people do shout and swear during arguments. Don't waste police time reporting this, leave them free to attend people who actually are at risk of harm.

Endofyear · 10/01/2026 16:57

I'd just mind your own business. People are allowed to have an argument!

ChaToilLeam · 10/01/2026 16:47

Wind your neck in, seriously!

Neighbouradviceneeded · 10/01/2026 16:19

Not sure she just sounded so sharp.

My former neighbours used to have full- on rows every few months. If I'd heard anything that suggested their children were in danger at any point, I'd have phoned the police.
It never did come to that but they were so vile to each other (thin walls, not difficult to hear) I did wonder how and why they stayed together.
They've moved now and it's bliss.

You could be best friends with our neighbour.

Wouldn't be surprised if they would report you first.

Pineappleice43 · 10/01/2026 16:41

Wtf OP. People have rows. People have arguments. Keep your nose out!

Catdrama2 · 10/01/2026 16:39

You're not concerned you're spiteful.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 10/01/2026 16:36

Neighbouradviceneeded · 10/01/2026 16:27

Sorry that happened to you

Why do you think I’m being creepy - just concerned?

You're being weird, not creepy.

You're asking if you should report and yet you don't even know who to.

It's not illegal to shout.

Not creepy, just a busybody with nothing to do in life.
