Military conscription

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 09/01/2026 10:25

There is lots of talk about if ww3 happens then military conscription will happen

This is basically people who sit in an office safely saying we need to either send ourselves or out children to fight and die in horrible conditions

Am I unreasonable to think that anyone who thinks this is a good idea

They should be the first ones to sign up and to lead by example

Any politicians who think this is a good idea, there children should be the first to go

Russia is literally sending troops in wheel chairs and crunches to the front line

So age, disability and gender will not be a problem for anyone who supports any conscription policy's, they can go first

Also the UK will not be invaded, we are not Ukrainian, If we were more like Ukraine I would be more in favour of this as the country itself is under threat

Let’s say you get to Uruguay - how would you earn money there? To find a job, you’ll need work experience and probably need to speak Spanish - do you have Spanish skills and work experience?

Your posts worry me a bit, because they don’t seem very connected to reality and you’re up all hours of the night whilst studying for a degree. Please focus on your degree and enjoying university as best as you can.

Thank you . Don't worry, I certainly don't plan to move until I've got established in my job. Fingers crossed the situation has improved by then! I have studied Spanish and am keeping this up.

You sound all very brave. 👍

For those who would consider immigration, Uruguay is better to immigrate to as immigration requirements are not as stringent as NZ.

Perhaps just focus on your degree instead of moving to bloody Uruguay to avoid a war that probably won’t happen.

I'll make my decisions based on the likelihood of that happening. At the moment it seems lower, but France, Germany, and the UK army itself are clearly all worried.

If they tried to conscript my sons (I have 6) they would have to pry them from my cold dead fingers.

Fuck them. These presidents/high ups that want to start dick swinging wars and playing boom boom military games, they can fight it out amongst each other, leave the rest of us out of it.

Conscription would probably only happen if UK were invaded. Your sons would probably have to fight (and you too). Hopefully we won't be invaded,, it certainly won't be first on Putin's list.

I think the pp comments on geography are relevant.

Conscription would probably only happen if the UK was being invaded, so I think 'if your own side leaves you out, the enemy won't' is relevant.

Thankfully 80% of people in my country don't think that way, and are instead willing to defend my country, otherwise life would be intolerable for all but the lucky few able to immigrate to somewhere like New Zealand.

You sound all very brave. 👍

I think all of this could also be said (apart from the bit about the sea) for the other countries Hitler invaded, especially the larger ones - e.g. France, Poland, but he still invaded them, so that makes me think the sea and the Navy/RAF is the main thing that saved us. Our geography really did save us.

We are an island , granted so invading us would be different to countries with borders. The Germans literally rolled into other countries.
But even so our Navy was powerful and I do think our fighting spirit wouldn’t have allowed an easy surrender.

I think a famous saying was if you had the tactics of a German officer , and the fighting spirit of a British soldier , you’d have the perfect Army.

If Germany had of actually invaded Britain would it really have worked and for how long?

First, the Royal Navy was very big , it would have took an awful lot of resources to penetrate through our naval defences.

It would have been a formidable task to defeat Britain by sea.

Secondly, the coast would have been defended by not just the Home Guard, but pretty much anyone who was capable of fighting. Your talking about potentially millions of civilians ready to fight.

Lastly, how would Germany have actually occupied Britain?

We are a very proud nation, we were tough when needed. The population left at home would have probably been 40 million or so ( at a guess).

I dont think the average British civilian would have taken kindly to the German forces invading us.

They simply wouldn’t have allowed it.

German only had an Army so big. How would they have had enough manpower to control us on our own soil?

Not much good though if you have enemy forces in your country. What else can you do but fight them ?

Hitler's plan was a war with Britain to start around 1944. He intended to have sufficient large warships and U-boats as well as other resources. The colonies would have been grabbed and Britain under nazi control. Whether as a slave state or a less willing ally would depend.

I don’t know much about Hitler’s plans to invade Britain, but I always thought he’d planned to invade in 1940 - rather than 1944. I thought the Battle of Britain in 1940 then messed up his plans, because Britain’s air superiority helped them get an upper hand over Germany.

But as we now know, Hitler was absolutely delusional. And there was zero chance Operation Sealion would ever work.

The British people weren't aware of this. But the British government were.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing 😀

Why someone ends up on the street even if they were given a home to begin with. Serious mental health breakdown ,someone in the army would be very vulnerable to this if they had been through the trauma of war. There should be more mental health support for them .

I don't disagree with this. It has got much better over the last 15 years but like all services in the NHS funding is an issue.

I disagree with the bull shit the pp posted about service personnel being used to stir hatred. It is untrue. I'm not a fan of the last few tory governments, but even they didn't do that.

Anyone using a group of people to further their agenda can get to fuck, particularly this group of people. You come at my family, you come at me.

As a daughter, wife and mother of military veterans, in the UK, that is not my experience.

Tommy ten names and co like to pretend it is though, although the "patriots" wouldn't know if it was hanging off their noses.
They just piss me off by how they use and misrepresent veterans.

No we can't..but I think everyone now should look at the situation and assess if they want to and are able to move to a country less likely to be directly involved in a conflict with Russia (and not seriously unstable in other ways). New Zealand is one, Uruguay another.

Hitler's plan was to take over Europe. If Britain hadn't declared war, that would probably have happened if he'd been successful at taking over the other countries.

Is that a serious question?

They leave our veterans to freeze to death on the streets and instead put illegal boat men in hotels & provide food. They deny our veterans housing but yet make illegal boat mens housing a priority. They don't provide aftercare or support to our veterans, as a result many are left to fight their demons alone which often results in addiction problems and many taking their own life. In some parts of the country they even failed to honour our veterans on remembrance Sunday last year finding ridiculous excuses.

Our veterans gave everything to this country and receive nothing in return. The country is a disgrace when it comes to how veterans are treated!!

Gosh, that sounds dreadful.
I'm so glad it's not like that in the UK.
