I said what I said, and my husband thinks it’s weird lol

You can’t beat dropping a sly hottie in the CoOp! I live in hope that one day it will be right next to old misery guts up there (who secretly loves this thread but is too uptight to say so) 😂

You really don’t know humour do you. I’ve obviously rattled your cage by talking about farts, yet you still remain lingering, like my recent bout of wind has been around my house. Blush

You just can't help yourself can you?

earshadow · 09/01/2026 22:57

What about ‘poo farts’? my kids have them when they are holding a poo in 😂

This is the sort of quality niche discussion I always look forward to reading on Mumsnet. 😀

Exactly, other threads are so repetitive…. What’s not to like about talking about something we all do, FARTS!!!!🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

Well i've obviously rattled your cage otherwise you wouldn't be being so personally offensive to me.

Somewhere in W H Auden's travel memoir Letters from Iceland that I read during my degree he quotes an Icelandic proverb that "every man likes the smell of his own farts".

Now go ahead and call this thread childish 😂

Erica Jong said the same thing in Fear of Flying. This topic is well highbrow

I'm replying to pp who have quoted me and made remarks to me - as you have done.

Of course if someone tell me - as you have done - I shouldn't be posting on a thread I'm going to reply and tell them I have every right to post on the thread. Why wouldn't I defend my right NOT to be told what threads I can post on?

🙄

Londonrach1 · 09/01/2026 20:55

Normal but you find people don't like to admit to it and mn the worse. If you goggle there is health benefits re this. I was shocked.

TooBigForMyBoots · 09/01/2026 20:51

It's natural, it's healthy, it's satisfying and it's free. Nothing beats a good fart, especially the bath ones.

A few years ago my dad had a stoma while he was recovering from bowel surgery. He couldn't fart or poo. He said he missed it and I felt sad for him.Sad

bringthecactusin · 09/01/2026 20:36

I was in the car once alone and farted and the smell was so so bad that even opening the windows wasn't enough. I had to ditch the car and get out. Was sat on a grass bank by the side of the road (Stallings Lane, Kingswinford, just past the KFC) absolutely howling laughing at the situation. Thankfully no-one stopped to ask was I having engine trouble. 🤣

bringthecactusin · 09/01/2026 20:17

Oh come on all you miseries! Farts are funny. Noise AND smell that could melt your eyeballs. What's not to laugh at?

Joke.....

Why do farts smell?

For the benefit of the deaf.

bringthecactusin · 09/01/2026 20:15

My Brother cups his and hands them to the dog. Who gets VERY confused that's there's nothing there when he opens his hand, but he does his best to lick all the smell off my Brother's hand.

We've absolutely been dragged up haven't we? 🤣

This reminds me of a comment my BIL made about farts that you have "to cut your way out of afterwards."

He's absolutely right, that's a very apt description. 😆😆

Hufflemuff · 08/01/2026 17:50

I mean; its weirdly satisfying - but I wouldn't buy a candle that smells like them!

I wouldn’t either because there’s nothing like the real thing.

I stopped having onion bhajis from the Indian takeaway which were so gorgeous but the smell the following day was too much, they burnt on exit and enveloped you in the smell which took some minutes to reduce in strength.

Very normal to not mind the smell of your own farts - and even enjoy it a bit.

Why you don't mind your own farts

  • Familiarity breeds comfort: Your body's microbiome produces a unique scent, and your brain recognizes it as "self," making it less threatening or repulsive.
  • Relief association: Smelling your own gas can be linked to the positive feeling of relieving bloating and pressure, a connection absent with others' farts.
  • Habituation: Your brain filters out constant sensory input, including your own natural body odors, preventing you from being overwhelmed

Evolutionary disgust: Humans evolved to find the smell of other people's bodily waste disgusting as a protective mechanism to avoid potential pathogens and disease.

"Otherness" factor: Unfamiliar smells from others' excretions signal potential danger or contamination, triggering a stronger negative reaction

I do find it funny though, when posters on Mumsnet claim they never fart in front of anyone/never fart in front of their partner. And some even claim they never fart!

I love a really rollicking good FART when I have had trapped wind for a few hours, and it finds its way out. Ahhhhhhhh, the relief! Grin

I would have thought it was also a natural way of keeping check of one's own digestive health, a bit like regular breast checks (although for non-farters like me, not nearly as regular as that of course😇). I should think that there is a biological tendency to have a good whiff to keep abreast of any significant changes or developments in one's own microbiome.

It may come as a shock to you but I can open any thread on MN that I want to open.
And, shock horror, actually post an opinion. Even if you don't like my opinion.

Have you ever thought how boring life would be if we all thought exactly the same as each other?

Have you ever thought how boring life would be if we all thought exactly the same as each other?

Well exactly.

And to that end a bit of fart humour adds spice to the mix.

ETA I am actually quite proud of the Anglo Saxon proclivity to fart and general toilet humour. The reason I say this is it is usually a perfectly innocuous topic, whereas so much humour actually tends towards derision and cruelty and mockery.

Pricelessadvice · 09/01/2026 09:38

I’m not offended by my own, like I am of others 😅

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/01/2026 09:37

Our dog’s farts were the most ‘fragrant’.

Having done one ourselves, we’d often say, ‘Pooh, was it you?’ - and our poor dog would look guilty and slink off and hide behind the sofa. RIP now, 🐶❤️

I'm an adult . I don't find farts remotely funny. If that makes me not " very thrilling" I'm proud of the fact.

I don't find farts embarrassing.

They are a natural bodily function. They happen.

But honestly why do you feel the overwhelming need to talk about them?

You really must have very limited topics of conversation if feel the need to go around talking about farts. The expression " get a life " comes to mind.

Being obsessed with farts really is something most people grow out of when they leave childhood behind.

And it says a lot about you if you go around insulting strangers on the Internet by calling them " uptight snobs" . You don't have to be uptight or a snob to find this level of humour peurile.

No, but you can find another thread to post on. Yet strangely here you are….
