about being back in bed all cosy, now that ds is away back to school in his taxi?
The house is lovely and quiet, and im under the duvet eating a box of heros. Staying here until he arrives home at 3.30 😃

Dc off to bus before 8. I'll be back at work tomorrow. I keep cancelling my swim time and now booked 3pm. Its too icy to run. In bed with cup of tea. Getting up to take down the tree soon.

I have two disabled children. I always took them to school myself. They preferred it and honestly it felt a little uncomfortable to shove them alone into taxis. In our area the local council is buckling financially under the weight of multiple taxis for so many more children with additional needs. Preposterous amounts. If you can, you should take your children to school yourself.

'if you can' doing lots of heavy lifting here.

Yanbu at all! I was going to send my own dc to school in a taxi today because of the snow but exdp (we live ten minutes away from each other) offered to take him before he went to work, without my intervention, so not complaining there!

Ds doesn't have any SEND but I have pretty severe adhd, which despite being medicated makes the festive period quite challenging for me personally. I've worked over Christmas too so haven't really had any breathing space.

I had Christmas eve and Christmas day off and hosted, then a wedding to attend over nye which was lovely but involved travelling to another city and staying in an air b&b with 12 other people for two nights so pretty exhausting, then just finished three 12 hour night shifts yesterday morning. Better believe I spent the vast majority of the day fast asleep while ds was with his father!

So today I'm very slowly trying to reset my house, tackle the mountain of laundry, take down the decorations etc. I'm on my third cup of coffee and have managed to put a single load of laundry on and come up with a vague plan of action. I'm back in work again tomorrow so only really have today to get it done.

I also have a pile of cardboard boxes, paper bags and wrapping paper bigger than me that I'm not even going to try and recycle. I'm going to burn it but the snow is very off putting.

Rest days are I'm op, don't let the naysayers tell you any different and enjoy your sweets and your duvet!

I'm just astounded that you are able to stomach a box of those things masquerading as chocolates which are called 'Heroes'!!

Stay under the covers. It’s freezing xx

In the online groups I’m part of, this overwhelmingly is the sentiment from parents of kids with ASN. Christmas can be so hard, it’s a relief to get some respite.

Enjoy your bed day, you can deal with all the additional stress, admin, physical effort, heartache that comes from raising a disabled child tomorrow.

Anyone asking why a parent with a disabled child doesn’t work might want to consider how they would hold down a job if every bit of support, predictability and reliability disappeared from their life tomorrow.

Indeed! I think I worked out once if I wasn't my sons parent/carer and he was relinquished it would cost the council roughly 2.5K per WEEK to look after him.
I get £83 per week, so if anyone wants to complain I don't work outside the house can frankly do one.

YANBU at all, my son goes back to school tomorrow and I'm planning to catch up on all the sleep I've missed out on during the holidays, people who don't get it refuse to get it, enjoy!

MerryGuide · 05/01/2026 10:08

Sounds a perfect day, Enjoy!
I'm sad to be back on the school run, wrap around, commute, work treadmill today so that sounds dreamy.

Davros · 05/01/2026 10:05

My only worry about this is I thought it said you were eating herbs. Otherwise, crack on!

Enjoy your day, OP! It’s exhausting having a disabled child 🙂

IainWithTwoEyes · 05/01/2026 09:53

I’d presume OPs child has a disability and has been given taxi transport to school, as my daughter was.

Yes he is disabled, and yes tax funded taxi.
