Hurray for Venezuela!!

So disappointed but not at all surprised at the reaction from MNetters safe and cosy who have no real idea of what 26 years run by a drug/sex trafficking dictator has been like.

You have no idea.
Reasonable methods of protest have been shut down and punished, elections are a sham. There were not food let alone arms to do a coup.

We needed an outside force. We are not stupid and contrary to comments on the other thread like "Anyone cheering that is as stupid as it is possible to be", we are sceptical but at least now we have a chance.
How dare left wing keyboard warriors be so priveledged to think they know better than people living there.

Hurray!

I'm sure you'll get over it....

Trump has no clue as to what comes next & the VP is now running the show, with a militia of 250k and a large standing army, the place is ripe now for civil war, as seen in other SA countries the US has got involved in.

To take down Starmer? In a heartbeat. As it stands, the NHS is useless right now anyway considering nobody can get to see a doctor unless they're dying, and even then I wouldn't bank on it

Nigel is that you?

China gets majority of its oil from Venezuela. Cream is already scooped from the top of our country. We do no expect all sunshine and roses.

Those saying it is not looking good, can I ask how many friends and family members they have seen murdered by their Government leader? How many have been killed trying to escape their country? How they try and avoid being trafficked by the cartels? How many rats they have eaten as there has been no food?

No it doesn't, gets vast majority from Russia, Saudi ...

..and the current regime continues.

Quoting facts is neither ignorant nor privileged.

Resorting to name calling is pretty desperate TBH

EasternStandard · 04/01/2026 21:16

I’m so pleased to see the celebrating and so many accounts on IG from jubilant people there.

BernardButlersBra · 04/01/2026 21:15

Thank god the kids go back to school tomorrow! Seems like lots of people don’t have their internet parental controls locked down properly

What Venezuela has experienced is appalling.

But Trump is nobody’s savior , sad to say.

estrogone · 04/01/2026 21:14

I truly hope that it's not a frying pan v fire scenario.

I think most people would be delighted that a dictator has been removed. Their issue is with the motivation of Trump and the US. We would be very naive to think the natural resources aren't at play.

I think their is something weird going on in Trump's mind about the Nobel. Time will tell.

Wonder what Maria Machado is thinking.

Trump has taken the President, thats it, the VP is now running the show, no US troops there, no US aid.... no nothing.

He will not risk US soldiers coming back in body bags.

So i'm at a loss what the OP is celebrating....

OP what are your thoughts on this?
Are you supporting the VP now?

Please name one toppled regime which is now thriving. We all celebrated the Arab Springs. But those governments were replaced with arguably even worse tyrannical regimes. It is far far too simplistic to assume once the “mean dictator” is deposed prosperity will come about. These geopolitical situations are highly complex. I mean there is an argument that the ME would be far more stable (and therefore no immigrant crisis) had Saddam not been deposed. I’m not supporting these wretched dictators but just pointing out some of the overly simplistic thinking.

Starmer was elected, do you not believe in democracy?

I think we have got to breaking point. We need help. Yes they were elected, under false pretence and blatant lies.

Have you any idea how utterly ignorant you sound? If you are not a bot I am embarrassed for you

scorpiogirly · 04/01/2026 21:12

Pedallleur · 04/01/2026 21:10

So you think the democratically elected Govt should be removed by a foreign power who would then change the society you live in?

So you want American troops on UK soil acting independently of the UK Govt? If Putin offered you Russian troops would you agree? Trump would bin the NHS off overnight

Edited

Pedallleur · 04/01/2026 21:08

Perhaps China or Russia could help the former inhabitants of Diego Garcia who were evicted by the UK/US Govts.

eeemes · 04/01/2026 21:05

Unfortunately, there is no evidence that the lives of civilians in a country invaded by the U.S. to remove a despot/regime ever improve. It’s normally just eventually replaced with something worse once troops pull out. There are so many examples of this and literally none of it going well for the people long-term.

BlackCrowKing · 04/01/2026 21:01

ShesTheAlbatross · 04/01/2026 20:56

Yes I’d say that that is fairly obviously what will happen.
That doesn’t mean Maduro wasn’t truly awful. But he’s not been replaced by someone who has done this because of concern for the welfare of the citizens, and therefore that welfare won’t be top of mind. Might well still be better for them of course, but Trump saying that the US will run it “for now” and that Machado “doesn’t have the support or respect” is extremely worrying. Who is he to decide who they support. He should now be working hard with the Venezuelans to ensure elections can be held and the results followed.

And leaving aside the specifics of Venezuela, the fact a US president can use military power, without even speaking to congress, to remove a leader and declare the US is now in charge of that country is not a good thing for the wider world.

Sorry, I agree with this. Are you in Venezuela OP? Or are you based in the UK now?

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 04/01/2026 21:00

Pedallleur · 04/01/2026 20:58

If Putin or China stepped in instead would you have been so enthusiastic. No such thing as a free lunch and Trump is going to want paying. He pardons one drug running ex President and forcibly removes a citizen from his own country.

ShesTheAlbatross · 04/01/2026 20:56

FFSToEverythingSince2020 · 04/01/2026 20:43

Not all Venezuelans are celebrating. The ones I know aren’t, but maybe they’re being pessimistic? They seem to be expressing a sort of “out of the frying pan and into the fire” attitude. I really do hope it works out for the best. Everyone should. But yes, I do question how this is going to work out when Trump doesn’t care about the average Venezuelan. One (only one, I admit) of my Venezuelan friends thinks the US will come in, build oil infrastructure, and take all of Venezuela’s oil for itself as “thanks,” in the same way they’re trying to force Ukraine to give up all their mineral wealth to the US.

Yes I’d say that that is fairly obviously what will happen.
