Blocking me is an overreaction?

Someone is selling an accent chair on Facebook, that I’d seen on the website and wanted. They’d listed it as having for a month and it not being used. Original cost was £200 and they wanted £120.

I messaged to ask if they would take £50, they sent me a laughing emoji and I said “fair, but that’s what I’m prepared to offer”

I’ve now checked back and they’ve blocked me.

Your offer was rather cheeky. They’ve blocked you because they can’t be arsed with you sending any more messages trying to barter, and I don’t blame them. Why are you even checking if they’ve blocked you, you seem a bit too bothered.

Serpentstooth · 04/01/2026 15:35

Time waster. Why wouldn't they block you.

ilovesooty · 04/01/2026 15:34

I'd have defined you as a time waster and blocked you too.

Skybluepinky · 04/01/2026 15:33

You wasted their time, no idea why you think they would want to interact with you.

More fool them. How do they know you weren’t going to come back with a much better offer.

Because the chances are typically low of that with such an offer.

OP asked for over half off the asking price.

Keepingthingsinteresting · 04/01/2026 15:28

Why do you care? You don’t know them and they aren’t going to entertain your offer and thought you were a time waster so didn’t want you sending multiple cheeky messages or abuse ( maybe you wouldn’t, but some do) so they just off your ability to do that. Totally fair.

mummytrex · 04/01/2026 15:24

You offered far below the advertised sale price. You then made clear that was all you were prepared to offer.

Your offer was plainly unacceptable to the seller. Nothing wrong with you not wanting to increase your offer. There was nothing more to say and they were not under any obligation to reduce the listing.

In their shoes I'd probably have blocked you too as I wouldn't have been interested in a back and forth negotiation or waste time on someone that wasn't offering anything close to asking price.

luckylavender · 04/01/2026 15:22

From bitter experience I would block you too

MoominMai · 04/01/2026 15:20

RunningJo · 04/01/2026 13:59

I don’t see what you’d care, unless you intended on increasing your low offer.
As a seller I’d have blocked you too because I would have thought you were taking the piss offering £50 for something I was selling for £120

That’s what I thought.

@Sachii I think the way you replied to their emoji peed them off further because you said ‘that’s what I’m prepared to offer” as though you’re in the driving seat lol. I think if you’d replied less defensively and said something like ‘worth a try’ with a laughing emoji, the interaction would have been more light hearted and you probably wouldn’t have been blocked - and as you’re obviously interested still since you went back to recheck, you could have offered slightly higher amounts up to what you genuinely could afford.

Tollington · 04/01/2026 15:19

I’d block you too for that CF offer

MadamCholetsbonnet · 04/01/2026 15:16

This has to be a reverse surely?

Vol8fdop · 04/01/2026 15:15

I would have blocked you too. Ridiculously low offer. They don't need to engage or accept, so decided to block.

MyDeftDuck · 04/01/2026 15:15

Perfectly acceptable reaction to a time waster!

ThisElatedShark · 04/01/2026 15:11

I thought this was going to be some kind of dating scenario or something - not an exchange about (not) buying a chair 😂. If you’re not prepared to pay anywhere near asking price for it then why would you want to send any more messages? Blocking makes sense, to avoid wasting time.

No, you’re annoying. I’d block you too.

Because the first one was a cheek. When you sell stuff online, you learn to spot the CFs off the belt.

PinkyFlamingo · 04/01/2026 15:06

What's the issue you have?

Theunamedcat · 04/01/2026 15:03

I would block too because it would be the start of a painstaking process ive had from piss takers before starts at fifty then it's fifty five then sixty then I will pay but you will deliver (no i wont) i will knock off the cost of the delivery driver if you dont then im sending my mate around to collect he will have the money (fun fact he did not have the money and wanted his fuel money for wasting his time) this is why my house is cluttered because getting rid of things is a trial

BadgernTheGarden · 04/01/2026 15:00

An offer of 10% less might be considered, a derisory one gets derided, you tried a silly offer and failed why go back and try to justify it?

EmeraldShamrock000 · 04/01/2026 14:58

Ah well, why would you make a ridiculous offer based on the selling price. At least they had the manners to refuse your scabby offer.

ThatCyanCat · 04/01/2026 14:57

Were you deliberately low balling to add on later? The time to increase the offer was when they gave the initial refusal, however they communicated it. By saying that was in fact the final offer, it would seem a waste of time for them. I wouldn't have blocked you, but I can see why they might think "I don't want messages all day when they're not negotiating".

MaidOfSteel · 04/01/2026 14:55

More fool them. How do they know you weren’t going to come back with a much better offer.

VoltaireMittyDream · 04/01/2026 14:52

The conversation was over and they didn’t want to lay themselves open to your continued pestering.

Given how much it’s annoyed you that you can’t still slide into their DMs hassling them for discounts, they made the right call!

Dragonscaledaisy · 04/01/2026 14:51

I wouldn't even have bothered replying. My time's too precious to waste.

Alovelyhotbath · 04/01/2026 14:51

Just their way of making sure they won't receive anymore ridiculous offers from you
