Anyone else spending new year's eve on their own?

I have a toddler who will be put to bed between 7-8 and my husband works on oil rigs so he is away.

My friends are either ill with this horrible sickness bug that's going round or they are able to get out and about later as their children are older.

I'll have a glass of wine and some nice snacks while watching the telly but I feel a bit down about it for some reason.

Same here, DH works away, friends all with their own families and my family all either live far away and or doing their own thing. It is how it is, will treat myself to a glass of mulled wine, although I don’t think my toddler will be going to sleep until late as need to go out in a while and think she’ll be having a danger nap in the car 😕

Catladywithoutacat · 31/12/2025 15:08

I’m ill so yes although I did buy a bottle of processco

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 31/12/2025 15:08

My adult kids are all doing their things, hosting parties, going to parties, and nobody has invited me to any, so it's just me and the dog! On the sofa under the heated blanket... I doubt very much if I'm going to make it to midnight. I'd rather be snuggled under the duvet than trying to stay awake for an arbitrarily contrived date change.

I am going to eat all the nice food first though.

calminggreen · 31/12/2025 15:07

Yup single mom of 3 young kids here - I don’t get the hype over new year now I’m 40 TBH shit telly shit Jules Holland - I’ll be getting in to my bed with the 3 kids and watching films with snacks - I’ll probably fall asleep first and I’m fine with that

GreyCarpet · 31/12/2025 15:05

My partner and I are going out to a pub in town later. A good selection of real ales and usually a low key night. I'm not into big celebrations - parties and fireworks- for NYE. I never have been. We probably won't stay out until midnight either.

I do remember the first year I spent alone with a toddler though. It does feel slightly different when it's not strictly your choice.

My son is an adult now and has canceled plans in favour of spending the evening alone. He said he wants an evening of quiet reflection and to start the New Year with a clear head.

You certainly won't be alone.

OnceMoreIntoTheBreachDearFriends · 31/12/2025 15:00

I absolutely detest NYE and all the forced fun that comes with it, but I at least treat myself a little. Single, 40, no kids, planning on eating prawns and lobster, drinking champagne and watching Rise of the Footsoldier before usual bedtime of 9pm - I'll be woken up by fireworks though!

KenAdams · 31/12/2025 13:10

I'm not but seems like there are a few on this thread so you could do a virtual gathering by posting here?

Bellyblueboy · 31/12/2025 13:08

I love New Year’s Eve alone! I used to go out to clubs, bars, restaurants, parties. Spend a fortune on a night that wasn’t great, so much pressure and it never lived up to expectations.

Tonight I have a bottle of champagne, a new book and a new pair of PJs! I will spend the night infront of the fire. No expectations, no small talk, no stress over taxis. My best friend lives in walking distance - she might call in, she might not: again no pressure

BLISS.

FastFood · 31/12/2025 12:58

I'll be at home with my dog, watching The Wire for the 3rd time. I've been invited to a house party but I have no desire to go, very happy to stay in, in my PJs.

SparklyGlitterballs · 31/12/2025 12:56

Me too. My DH died last year and my two adult DDs both have plans to be out this year. I'm recovering from a knee operation, so no desire to go out anywhere. I'm happy on my own, with my little dog for company. I'll have a glass of wine and some nice snacks, but will probably be in bed before midnight anyway.

Happy New Year everyone, however you're spending it.

Fridaysgirl17 · 31/12/2025 12:49

Yep my kids are going to dad's for 2 nights & I'll probably be tucked up in bed by midnight, I've had this horrible bug all Christmas & I think I'm finally coming out of it,so I'll try sleep & recuperate before school starts back. I've had the kids solidly since the start of the month with no contact with dad,a few texts, & they were ill also so having a few nights to just sleep will be heaven honestly.

Dullmary · 31/12/2025 12:44

Yes! Always do. I hate New Year’s Eve. All that enforced celebration. Each year is
more depressing than the last, why would anyone want to be happy about welcoming it? Fuck that. I’ll be tucked up in bed at 10pm with the cats.

Humbug.

Crunchymum · 31/12/2025 12:32

Yep - although much more by choice!

Youngest and I will be home. DP and our older two (who are still relatively young - 11 and 13) will be at a family gathering. I expect they'll stay over although they are only a 15 minute walk down the road so could come home after Midnight?

I don't drink, had the flu in the lead up to Christmas and have worked this week so I am staying home. I am not sure I'll even make it to Midnight although I have never not seen in the NY as an adult so I suspect I'll watch the fireworks at Midnight but then off to bed!

Turkish Mezze for myself and little one for dinner. I also have some Nosecco if I did fancy a toast at Midnight.

Myblueclematis · 31/12/2025 12:28

Yes I will be. I've spent loads of them on my own, although I did have the cats for company until two years ago, now it's just me.

I have a choice of wine in the cupboard plus a ready mixed Pina Colada I had as part of a Christmas present so plenty to drink and some pate and home made sausage rolls if I get peckish during the evening.

If I'm still awake at midnight, I'll wish myself a Happy New Year with a glass of Cremant, answer/send New year messages to/from friends and family and look forward to a happy, healthy 2026.

Cheers!

TeeBee · 31/12/2025 12:24

When your children ask to start having NYE parties in your house, you’ll look back fondly on this quiet evening in watching your favourite programs. I wish you a very happy 2026.

randomchap · 31/12/2025 12:10

Have your own celebration when your husband is next on shore. Go out for a meal, get your favourite takeaway, whatever you fancy.

Plan something to look forward to

thegirlwithapearl · 31/12/2025 11:49

I'm in hospital and I doubt I'll get out today. I'm looking forward to some sleeping tablets and to be nicely zonked out when the new year rolls in!

Kingscallops · 31/12/2025 11:47

I did christmas days and NYE on my own for several years. Loved the former because I'd hosted too many previous Christmases. Found good films, bottle of wine and snacks on NYE. Pleased nobody but myself. Many people aren't bothering to go out now. Happy new year 🎉

SENcatsandfish · 31/12/2025 11:47

Nothing planned. 2 kids with SEN. Might get us a Chinese later. My son has had 5hrs sleep so its going to be a tough day

AutumnClouds · 31/12/2025 11:44

Yes, my partner is working, I’ll be baby wrangling then falling asleep exhausted. I think big plans for NYE are almost always disappointing anyway, I’m going to lean into the fresh start feeling of January instead, get some new healthy habits going.

ThirdStorm · 31/12/2025 11:41

I am. It’s my preference. I’m planning a relaxing hot bath and PJs early evening followed by a nice dinner and Prosecco. I planning a die hard movie marathon too!

IsThisTheWaytoSlamMyPillow · 31/12/2025 11:20

No, because no one will bloody well let me!! I’ve always found NYE a bit depressing TBH and would prefer a usual Wednesday night (TV, bed, book, early night etc) but am being ‘encouraged’ to go out by very well-meaning family. Seems rude to dig in and say no because their encouragement is coming from a good heart.
