I found a pregnancy test in my DSs gfs flat

My DS is 28, he has been with his girlfriend for a bit over a year. They are away to her family abroad, they asked if I would mind checking in on her flat. I went today as I was in the area for a hair appointment. Collected up parcels left by the door or at neighbours, checked all was well then nipped into the bathroom. In the bathroom when I was washing my hands I realised there was a pregnancy test, positive left by the sink.
The thing is we met up with them before their flight (but after they left home for the airport) and his girlfriend was drinking.

I don’t know what to make of this, surely they’d have known I was going to be there and possibly using the bathroom.

Im tempted to message my son and let him know I’ve seen it? But then what if she has decided to terminate, or it’s from a friend who was over or some other personal reason that’s nothing to do with me?

Do I just mind my business? Or would it be okay for me to mention it.

The Op says she went to the bathroom and saw it, it had been left out. How is that ‘snooping’?? And how is she ‘spreading rumours’? Did you read the same OP as me?!

It's snooping because stuff in other people's bathrooms is private. And now she's planning on wanting to tell people about what she saw.

Just because she wasn't going round with a magnifying glass doesn't mean you're not looking at things that don't concern her. To me that's snooping.

LavenderLucy · 29/12/2025 16:49

I’d say it to him.
I’m not from the UK though.
Cultural differences maybe?

Eyeshadow · 29/12/2025 16:43

YABU

If they want you to know they’ll tell you.

Pretend you’ve not seen it.

BillieWiper · 29/12/2025 16:02

It's none of your business. She might not want the kid or even for anyone to know. It might not be hers. Either way do not say or do anything.

You're in someone's house. They trusted you. Snooping around looking at medical devices then spreading rumours about it is absolutely unacceptable.

Minnie798 · 29/12/2025 16:38

He isn't 15! Agree with other posters, it would be absolute madness to say anything to your 28! year old son.

Devonshiregal · 29/12/2025 16:35

you need to practice withholding judgement. If you are you be a grandparent it is incredibly important.

her drinking is none of your business. She could’ve faked it (eg. Said it was alcoholic when not) or is panicking and not thinking. Or just had a sip.

or they’re playing a joke on you?

Wayk · 29/12/2025 16:30

I thought you were going to say he was under 18. Please do not say a word. You will damage your relationship with them both.

gudetamathelazyegg · 29/12/2025 16:28

Please don't say anything OP - you say they've only been together a year, is he living with her full time because that's not a long time. Please just try forget about it. If my MIL accidentally saw a positive test I'd feel awkward because I would plan to have an abortion. I don't think your feelings about the whole thing will help her x

ResusciAnnie · 29/12/2025 16:16

Jesus, obviously don’t say anything. Shocked you even have to ask!!

Moreshowergel · 29/12/2025 16:16

Stay quiet.
You'll know one way or another in 9 months time Wink

My GP spent ages telling me all the tricks for looking like in was drinking when out in early pregnancy. I didn't really bother as I wasn't a big drinker anyway but lots of people will just pretend to drink

StevieNic · 29/12/2025 16:15

Absolutely do nothing, if she was drinking it’s likely she doesn’t want to go on with the pregnancy. It could even be a friends test.

Fuckitydoodah · 29/12/2025 16:13

Come on, you know you can't mention seeing it. If there's something to tell, then you'll find out when they're ready to tell you.

In all likelihood, it was negative and looks positive due to the time that's gone by since it was used. Or it's an ovulation test.

Rosecoffeecup · 29/12/2025 16:11

Of course you can't ask them about it, what are you thinking?! If there is anything to tell you, they will do it when they are good and ready

WallaceinAnderland · 29/12/2025 16:07

Good grief, I can't believe you would even consider speaking to him about it. None of your business. Jeez

Wisperley · 29/12/2025 16:07

Might not be a pregnancy test. If it is, and it's been left out, it will have dried out and looks positive when it's not

Either way, it's not your business.

BonnieWeeLass99 · 29/12/2025 16:04

Say nothing!!! Separately could it be an ovulation test?

TheOneWithTheGoat · 29/12/2025 16:04

Could literally be anything:

A friends. An evap line. Could be having a termination. Could have recently had a miscarriage (I tested positive for 6 weeks after mine even though I was only 8 weeks). Could have been drinking none alcoholic drinks discreetly. Could be an ovulation test as some do look very much like pregnancy tests.

I would stay well out of it.

Shitmonger · 29/12/2025 16:04

I’m pretty sure many tests turn positive if left for too long and that’s why you have to read it within a certain timeframe. I’m guessing it was negative and that’s why she was drinking.

BillieWiper · 29/12/2025 16:02

Dont be so bloody stupid. Dont say a word. Its the poison chalice, say nothing about it, it never happened, it didnt happen until you're told it happened.

For all you know, an amazon delivery driver could have stopped to use the toilet (unlikely, I know - but think ridiculous).

Its absolutely sod all to do with you.

AlwaysTheRenegade · 29/12/2025 16:00

It's natural you want to know what the test means OP, but I agree, don't say anything. It sounds like you have a good relationship if they trust you with her key.
Seems unlikely it would be a friends though.
Did you buy her drink or did she/ your ds? Could have been alcohol free?

Flickaflock · 29/12/2025 15:59

Say nothing. If it is theirs, and they decide to keep it, you’ll be told in a few months’ time anyway. If it’s not theirs and/or they’ve decided to get rid of it, it’s none of your business.

waterrat · 29/12/2025 15:57

oh my gosh op this is a big fat none of your business.

put it out of your mind

For gods sake it's none of your business.
Dont you want to fall.out become estranged because you will if you meddle. You certainly wont be trusted anymore to have a key why break that.
Im amazed that people have to ask others and dont know to mind their own business and realise the dangers and pitfalls of interfering themselves.

HollyhockDays · 29/12/2025 15:51
