I found a pregnancy test in my DSs gfs flat

My DS is 28, he has been with his girlfriend for a bit over a year. They are away to her family abroad, they asked if I would mind checking in on her flat. I went today as I was in the area for a hair appointment. Collected up parcels left by the door or at neighbours, checked all was well then nipped into the bathroom. In the bathroom when I was washing my hands I realised there was a pregnancy test, positive left by the sink.
The thing is we met up with them before their flight (but after they left home for the airport) and his girlfriend was drinking.

I don’t know what to make of this, surely they’d have known I was going to be there and possibly using the bathroom.

Im tempted to message my son and let him know I’ve seen it? But then what if she has decided to terminate, or it’s from a friend who was over or some other personal reason that’s nothing to do with me?

Do I just mind my business? Or would it be okay for me to mention it.

You never saw it. You never went into their bathroom.

That's the ONLY acceptable answer.

sprigatito · 29/12/2025 20:00

Beak out. No good can come of you interfering in something so private and personal. If they want to share with you, they will.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 29/12/2025 19:59

Why on earth would you possibly think you should mention it?!

CaptainMyCaptain · 29/12/2025 19:58

mumofb2 · 29/12/2025 17:36

Do not mention it. Wait for them to share the news.

Or not as the case may be.

luckylavender · 29/12/2025 18:10

It’s none of your business and if it’s been out that long it could be incorrect now.

Thoseslippers · 29/12/2025 18:10

You need to stay completely out of this.
Please do not say anything to anyone. You have no idea what the situation is. You risk really damaging your relationship with your son and/or damaging his relationship with his girlfriend, if you bring this up.

Baby2duejuly2026 · 29/12/2025 18:08

Yes you’ve got to keep shum.

Only reason I’d say something is if your DS and his gf were under 18 then I think it’s ok to ask.

At 28 you stay out of it.

”his girlfriend was drinking” maybe she had non alcoholic to make it look like it was alcohol.

Maybe she is pregnant but they want to terminate, completely up to them

Maybe it’s not her test like you say

summervile · 29/12/2025 18:08

No you don’t say anything at all. It’s none of your business. She may or may not be pregnant, and if she is she may or may not choose to have the baby. Stay out of it.

DeeLitefilly · 29/12/2025 18:03

What do you really know? Direct facts are needed. Wait till they tell you.

xAwaywiththefairiesx · 29/12/2025 18:00

100% Mind your own business.

They probably have a lot on their minds, and forgot it was out by the sink. They must be kicking themselves and worried you've seen it, praying you haven't. It's not your fault you did, but please don't say a word and let them tell you if and when they choose to.

It might be that they haven't decided if they will keep it or not. Or a myriad of other scenarios.

I know you are curious and possibly excited but it's absolutely vital you stay well out of it

Hobnobswantshernameback · 29/12/2025 17:52

Yet another bitchplop and run OP

Skybluepinky · 29/12/2025 17:51

God help her with a sticky beak of a mil!

mumofb2 · 29/12/2025 17:36

BitOutOfPractice · 29/12/2025 17:34

Was it on the sink though op? 🤔

GreenPoms · 29/12/2025 17:17

Jesus, I can’t believe anyone would think that it would be acceptable to mention this to him.

notacooldad · 29/12/2025 17:17

I have access to my eldest sons home. He often works away and will ask if I can pop round.
I have accidentally seen things not for my eyes not because im snooping but because he forgets what he's left out. I tell him now to make sure anything you dont your mother to know is pur away!l 😆
I never mention what ive seen because its absolutely nothing to do with me. Same for you Op.

CountingQuiche · 29/12/2025 17:16

It's snooping because stuff in other people's bathrooms is private

Yawn - the "special" MN eyes strike again.

If you are washing your hands and there is an item left on display on the side of the basin, how do you NOT see it? It's not like OP went rooting through the bins or bedside drawers.

Maybe see an optician.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 29/12/2025 17:16

It's absolutely nothing to do with you. Do nothing, say nothing.

If they're having a baby, then they'll tell you in due course. If they're not, then you never need to know whether she had a termination or it was a friend's or whatever the hell else.

MumoftwoNC · 29/12/2025 17:16

TheOneWithTheGoat · 29/12/2025 16:04

Could literally be anything:

A friends. An evap line. Could be having a termination. Could have recently had a miscarriage (I tested positive for 6 weeks after mine even though I was only 8 weeks). Could have been drinking none alcoholic drinks discreetly. Could be an ovulation test as some do look very much like pregnancy tests.

I would stay well out of it.

Yes and I have UTI test sticks that look like cheap pregnancy tests. Just a stick with coloured lines on it.

Anyway, regardless, op needs to keep this to herself for all the many reasons already mentioned

It's snooping because stuff in other people's bathrooms is private. And now she's planning on wanting to tell people about what she saw.

Just because she wasn't going round with a magnifying glass doesn't mean you're not looking at things that don't concern her. To me that's snooping.

Perhaps it’s a setup because the DS doesn’t trust OP to not nose around while they’re away?
🤔

Itiswhysofew · 29/12/2025 17:08

It's a shame you've seen it. One more thing to think about😩

You can't say anything, though. You'd be seen as interfering.

SeaShellsSanctuary1 · 29/12/2025 17:06

She may have had a termination, this is absolutely nothing to do with you

It was on the sink, she says. How on earth is she supposed to not see that? And planning on telling people? You mean potentially asking her son, which she has been told absolutely not to do? Your idea of telling ‘people’ and spreading rumours is different to mine. How can she ‘spread a rumour’ about seeing a pregnancy test when it was sitting on the sink? I very much doubt she’s now going to mention a word.

I would just be mortified if I was the owner of the test. It's not about whether she saw it, it's just obvious she needs to ignore it. Otherwise it is just turning it into gossip.

I'm glad if she does nothing about it as advised.

Don't say a word...by the way I've heard that negative pregnancy tests can eventually turn positive, buts its then a false reading as it's just that it's been left a long time...or am I imagining that? I'm sure I read that somewhere? Apologies if I'm wrong.

Anyway...they're adults, mind your own business

Surely it has to have the presence of hCG to show positive, which is only present in pregnancy?
