How many of you love your job

I am genuinely interested having been weighing up my options and going round in frustrating circles.
I would like to know how many people feel fulfilled by and enjoy their work and if you do, what work do you do?

I think there are 3 key things to loving your job….

  1. the job itself has to be something you enjoy doing/find interesting,

  2. the company you work for has to have the right culture and treat its staff well (I include pay and conditions in this), and

  3. you have to have colleagues who you enjoy being around on a personal level because you spend roughly 25% of your life with them!

if you can tick those three boxes you’ve cracked it.

Teacher
I love my job so much. But I hate my workplace.
Love the kids, can't stand the politics.

Franticbutterfly · 01/01/2026 22:46

Psychotherapist (private). Love it!

I do! Dr (anaesthetist). Absolutely love the day job it's so rewarding and an absolute privilege to save/change lives daily

The stuff that comes with it such as having zero say where you work, long commutes, pennies in reimbursement towards £30/day train tickets when rotated to work in London, the 10 tax codes a Yr, hundreds of underpayments when it's screwed up, the no control over where you live until your mid 30s, working 8/10 Xmas since graduating, the paperwork the admin, the assessments, the redoing mandatory training every 6m when move hospitals, being addresses in induction emails as "dear dr x" cos they dont even check the mail merge worked, living out a carrier bag (where your socks get stolen from the changing rooms) as rotational trainees don't deserve a locker, losing friends, missing family events blah de dah not so much

Edited

I’ve been qualified since the 90’s and don’t enjoy medicine at all anymore - sad really 🙁

I do two jobs. I call one my money job as it pays alright but it’s for a dull and staid corporate organisation with all the boring politics and focus on making money.

I also have my love job which pays less well but is in an entertainment venue with brilliant colleagues, lots of laughs, fun and appreciative customers and an amazing variety of jobs that they’ll always let you have a go at trying out.

I love my love job and would go out of my way to help out there and go the extra mile and they also have helped me when I’ve needed extra income.

My corporate ‘money’ job doesn’t care about me and I don’t particularly care about it.

I feel lucky that I have my ‘love’ job.

Stompythedinosaur · 01/01/2026 14:40

I love my job.

I'm a senior nurse running a pilot in providing mental health care differently to children in care.

It's a slog some days, but I believe in it.

AlocasiaPolly · 01/01/2026 14:29

I love my job, (analytical chemistry) but struggle with my coworker (technically my superior, but you'd never know it from a work ethic stance). We've worked as a team of 2 for 13 years, and as a part of a larger team for 10 years before that. He's a single, older man child, probably with complex MH problems, but would never admit that, and questionable hygiene. Everyone else knows, management have tried to curb his nonsense over the years but never get very far, and he always manages to just about stay within the boundary that would get him sacked. One day he'll leave or drop dead, then my job will be perfect.
Now that I read that back it's far from perfect. I need a new job.

Wyksister · 31/12/2025 18:34

Me!

I work as a self employed post natal doula and maternity night nurse

I've done it for 20 years and absolutely love it

Doone22 · 31/12/2025 18:22

Love it. If I won the lottery I'd still work

WhisperingJesse · 31/12/2025 18:02

ALunchbox · 29/12/2025 14:55

I work in HE. Used to enjoy it but there have been so drastic cuts and workload has really increased. I still enjoy it but it's a little too full on at times now...

Same here. I used to love it and now it’s awful.

Starseeking · 31/12/2025 17:43

I’m the Chief Financial Officer for an organisation which turns over £150m per year, and I love it for the variety and the difference that I can make in delivering my role.

Whattodo1122 · 31/12/2025 17:40

I absolutely love my job. Employment coach within a housing association, such rewarding work and no 2 days are the same.

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 31/12/2025 08:34

Secondary teacher in a private school, I love it (most of the time 🤣)

I get holidays off with my own kids so no childcare stresses.

Thank you for that, I've never heard of them and will look into that. I've actually fallen into outdoor volunteering in a nearby national park this year and really enjoyed being outside doing hands on practical work. So I'm now looking for my next steps into how I can possibly move into some sort of related career. I agree with the happy and relaxed feeling! Thanks again

Best of luck in your new career venture, you won't be disappointed! 🌷🍀🌻🌳🌺

Content writer. Yes I do love it. I work from home, do 30 hours a week with total flexibility on when and where. I like the research, and creating a piece of writing for a blog or newsletter is far more satisfying in the age of ai slop.

HelpMySocksAreTouchingMe · 30/12/2025 14:20

I love my job, I love the company I work for and I really like my colleagues. I have masses of respect and affection for my boss and I am greatful for the opportunities I have been given to progress and complete my professional qualifications.

I consider myself very lucky. I am a financial controller with a global company.

winterdarkness · 30/12/2025 12:49

I do. I’m a purchasing director for a large corporation. Fully remote

cheapskatemum · 30/12/2025 12:47

I always post on these threads, because I do genuinely love my job. I support children with disabilities in a residential care home. No day is the same, I need to use a wide range of skills - some of which I already have & others which I have to learn. It is incredibly rewarding when the young people make progress.

That said, the raising of the minimum wage will mean that, despite all the qualifications I’ve worked for in able to do my job and despite the huge amount of responsibility it entails, my current salary is below the new minimum wage when it starts next year. Obviously, my employers will have to increase salaries, but they are a charity & this means expenditure in other areas will have to be reduced.

Fuif · 30/12/2025 12:30

I love my job, I’m a video editor, I get to do a lot of creative work most days, fast paced which I like and good work benefits in current role.

Lyra25 · 30/12/2025 12:28

Barrellturn · 30/12/2025 07:56

I don't. But I don't know what I would do instead and I would hate not to work so it is what it is.

What work do you do?

Oioiqueen · 30/12/2025 09:24

My role used to be more operational and reactionary. However after I'd left after not returning from maternity leave I got contacted out of the blue a year later and was offered a slightly more admin heavy version of the old role. Whilst it's tedious it allows a great deal of flexibility. I WFH PT during school hours and my bosses are happy for me to move days around when the kids are sick to get the work done.

I work in sea and road freight

SantiagoShaming · 30/12/2025 09:20

Me! I love my job. I can’t wait to get back to work. I work in public policy.

TeaCupTornado · 30/12/2025 09:14

Alwaysmuddybuthappy · 30/12/2025 08:14

I applied for a place on WRAGS (work and retrain as a gardener scheme) near to me. This was a year long apprenticeship at a private garden which taught the basics of maintenance gardening. I was lucky enough to be kept on after my apprenticeship. Other gardening jobs just sort of 'snowballed' from there. I also did RHS2 (Royal Horticultural society) at evening class for a theoretical approach.
I am so much more happy and relaxed now and which I'd done it sooner.

24caratgoldlabubu · 30/12/2025 09:07

Kind of..? Well. I used to 😬

I've run a beauty business for nearly 10 years. It's the only job I've ever really cared about and the only thing I'm good at.

But I'm so, SO burnt out with it. Having to navigate self-employment through the pandemic and the subsequent cost of living crisis has killed my enjoyment for it. I'm 34 and I genuinely don't know what else I would want to retrain in. Argh!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 30/12/2025 08:46

I'm a job coach at a jobcenter in another country. I work with the public sector so if you're a teacher, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, sw etc and you don't have a job you come and see me. Very reasonable group of people. Fairly high success rate. Lots of structure in my day. Manageable workload. My own office.
