Picking up items in will

I have wrote on here before about my relationship with my family. Estranged from most of them. Etc.
My grandmother who I was in contact with recently passed away and she left me some jewellery in her will.
I live in Northern Ireland and the rest of my family lives in england. My uncle messaged asking me to get someone to pick up the jewellery.
I asked if I could pick up a certain weekend and he agreed. I booked flights. It is next qeekend and I am now messaging asking for times. I originally asked if I could pick up the thursday evening after we land. He said he was busy. I asked if we could come get it saturday morning. He said he was playing golf. I have now messaged asking when suits him and he hasn't replied.
I am worried as we booked these flights especially to pick up the jewellery and we really cant afford to come over again. He was not very nice to me when my grandma was dying and after. So I feel like he is being difficult.
Aibu?

Ask your cousin if a friend of theirs, unknown to your uncle, can collect on your behalf ahead of you arriving for the weekend.

Chickencuddle · 29/12/2025 10:24

I think ill wait and see if he gets any messages and replies will give it a day or two and then I can maybe speak to my cousin. Thing is she isnt on that side of the family so doesnt really have contact with them..but more than me probably. Dont want to bring her into it and also dont want to blow my cover that im in contact with her and my aunt as they think im estranged from everyone. If that makes sense. She has offered to help kn any way she can in the past. But she has enough on without drama.

Do you have any other relations contact details?

If not....
Just turn up at his house.
You are there for days and have one job Prioritise it...!

He might be golfing Saturday but he isn't golfing at 6am.
Turn up early or late when he is going to be in.

Knock loudly but be smiley, polite and verbally enthusiastic.
Imagine you are Teflon 😁

Good luck!!!

Could it be a police thing?

CheshireDing · 29/12/2025 10:19

What about sending a recorded delivery letter to him OP to confirm the time you will be at his house to pick up the items ? I would send the letter recorded delivery next day too (as otherwise it just means it will be signed for but not what day the letter will get there).

I am in the north west, happy to also post your letter through his door if it's sort of in my area if that's any help ?

ThirdStorm · 29/12/2025 10:15

Think you will have to turn up at his house when you land and take it from there. Hopefully he’d just hand it over to get rid of you. Good luck in such an awkward situation.

Jyst messaged him saying that. None of my messages are being delivered now. Not sure who the solicitors even are.

@Chickencuddle is that the only number or contact you've got? Where is he based?

Great plan. And contact the solicitors yourself so they are expecting the Uncle to drop off the jewellery. Sounds like he is an arsehole.

Soontobe60 · 29/12/2025 09:51

Just tell him to leave it with the solicitors and you’ll collect it from there.
