To think its a bit shit that our posts end up on FB

Not sure I am happy about that tbh

OP posts:
Justchillinhere · 29/12/2025 12:19

I thought I didn't read Facebook messages as I don't use it!

gardenbouche · 28/12/2025 21:48

I get that, but to a degree MN has always been my safe space

A public website with around 8 to 10 million monthly users is no-one's safe space.

I think the reason I disagree with them posting on FB is because the comments appear to be unregulated and are far more brutal than even on here.

IllMetByMoonlight · 29/12/2025 12:09

Like @noblegiraffe says, it wouldn't occur to me to check FB or Insta or the DM comments section to see if anyone was engaging with something I had posted on this site, whether offering me support or ripping me to shreds.

I'm always a bit wary about what I post anyway after someone once did a weird advance search on me to try to undermine a point I was attempting to make; such a weird experience to know that a stranger, over-invested in an online disagreement over a relative non-issue, actively went out of their way to hunt through the archives for some 'dirt' on me, triumphantly pulling old, out-of-context, unrelated statements out of the bag, like "Ta-dah, now who's the xxx?!"

I don't particularly like that there's this 'MN adjacent' audience which can passively consume this content without actively contributing, 'in the spirit of' the site, and I do think it has contributed to a feeling of 'hollowing out' of what was once something akin to an intentional community of users who had deliberately sought out this online space, as opposed to having it served up as an incedental side dish.

Sanasaaa · 29/12/2025 12:09

Websites aren't a little bubble or safe space. This site has over 9 million users, our email addresses, username and passwords were released by a hacker.
Once something is online it is there forever.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 29/12/2025 11:37

OP might see them

They are also to draw people to the site

It's advertising

I think the chance of the OP seeing them when it is not flagged anywhere on MN that their thread has been posted on facebook is unlikely.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 29/12/2025 11:37

noblegiraffe · 29/12/2025 11:24

Why does it matter whether the comments were supportive and related to the OP or not when the OP will never see them? What is the point of those comments on Facebook?

Hello @gardenbouche , are you referring to one of your threads that appeared on our Facebook page? We haven’t been able to locate it, but please let us know if we’ve missed something.

Each day we share a selection of Mumsnet threads on Facebook, as many of our followers enjoy seeing the variety of conversations happening across the boards. We aim to pick threads that are broadly interesting and generally avoid anything that feels overly personal, sensitive, or could identify someone.
We’re always careful about what we share, but if you have concerns about a specific thread, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly.

We've now removed the SEN thread referenced here. While the majority of the comments were supportive and related to the OP, we can see how the lack of context was an issue so thanks for alerting us.

MN has 8 million users and posts regularly end up on the Daily Mail site, which has 40 million users a month. It’s not a safe space or a little bubble. I really wouldn’t put anything on here that you don’t want shared with the world. FB is neither here nor there.

I'd there really are 8m users then the engagement rate is pitiful, I've seen AIBU votes with fewer than 50 responses. What exactly counts as a user?

I wonder if this one will. YANBU. I blame penis beaker

that was a classic and brought me to mumsnet,

There was one today relating to a child with SEN - the poster didn't specify that in their post as it was posted on the SEN board, but that wasn't at all clear on FB and it attracted lots of snarky comments which was quite upsetting to read. I thought it was out of order to use a post from that area without context.

Yes that's what annoys me. Mn posts a tiny snippet and misses out key relevant info. But fb people don't click full thread they just comment bitchy comments based on one line. Which if its a sensitive topic is shit for poster!

gardenbouche · 28/12/2025 22:57

I just feel a bit stupid tbh

When I joined MN it was all green fields around here

You're almost worryingly naive tbh

RedRiverShore6 · 28/12/2025 22:29

It is the internet and public, it can go anywhere

hobbledyhoy · 28/12/2025 22:28

Something on a previous thread elsewhere stuck with me- If there’s a cost then you’re buying the product, if there’s no cost then YOU are the product.

It reminds me to consider what the angle of various companies are and how they benefit from my data and who they might be selling it to.

AngelWingsS · 28/12/2025 22:27

I posted once and it ended up in the daily mail, mumsnet isn't a safe space at all not sure why you’d think it was.

Exactly. Clicks drive traffic and you can't regard anything posted on here as being in a protected bubble.

I think it's very poor of them to choose threads like that to post on other social media, given they know how it'll go.

Why on earth would you think that?

this is social media too - just a different channel

if you want to keep something private then don’t post online

Quite!

StressedCat · 28/12/2025 21:55

Agreed, however that was how I came to be on here. FB suggested some Mumsnet posts to me and they resonated, so I decided to join.

CinnamonBuns67 · 28/12/2025 21:54

Yes it puts me off posting

I'm.sure HQ have got a lot worse at this recently.
They post everything now, where as before it was the odd thread.
They've even posted threads They've deleted Confused
The only thing you can do is stop posting.
