What unnecessary, inappropriate and ridiculous job did someone in your house decode to start doing in the middle of the Christmas chaos?

Title should read ; 'decide to start doing' 🤨

My DH, Christmas Eve, 2pm, while I was rushing to get sorted before we had to go out...started clearing out the kitchen cupboards, in particular the 'drawer of shit' whilst I was doing food prep. Spreading it around and actually on top of the food!

It's been a catch all drawer of shite for the entirety of the seven years we've lived in this house.

You know when you just look at someone and go "absolute bellend" In your mind, but he definitely heard it 😂

(Disclaimer, obviously lighthearted!)

I’m the inappropriate job do-er amid Christmas chaos person in our house. Christmas Eve I decided to decant all the pasta, rice, grains etc into storage jars and clear the pasta and tins cupboard.

Cleaning the patio door windows literally an hour before our guests arrived. Made them look worse and hadn't yet showered....

A couple of years ago, my now ex interrupted me as I was cooking Christmas dinner to get me to sort out the formatting of a word document for her. This caused me to forget to put something in the oven, which she then had a go at me for.

My DH decided that me plating up the xmas dinner would be the perfect time to empty the dishwasher

Laiste · 26/12/2025 21:11

DH.
Wanted to go out on the drive in his filthy work clothes and start chopping up a dead fall tree that's been there since the gales in Oct !

Just no please!

Without fail, every time we expect visitors my husband will start fannying about cleaning the outside window sills. Bathroom could need cleaning, hoovering needs doing, clearing up piles of paper and shit needs picking up, maybe load the dishwasher? Nope it’s always the fucking window sills.

He’s normally pretty sane, no idea what drives this??

Because he doesn't want to do those chores. He's hiding outside and trying to look busy, so you'll end up doing them.

Thenakedwineglass · 26/12/2025 21:10

I started looking for a different watch strap - had a whole cupboard out hunting for one just as we were about to leave for relatives for Christmas dinner ! No idea why. And I didn’t find what I was looking for either ! Relatives rang to ask where we were 😁

Uberaddict · 26/12/2025 21:08

In fairness, my DH has done his fair share this Christmas and had just laid the Xmas dinner table when he decided to draught proof

Tammygirl12 · 26/12/2025 21:06

It’s not Christmas but my husband regrouted the whole week I was about to give birth.

also went on a 2 hour drive on his paternity leave to go and collect a bike off Facebook market place

stargazer02 · 26/12/2025 21:05

I almost repotted a few plants at 11pm on Xmas eve. I did catch myself on though.

JoyousGuide · 26/12/2025 21:04

Sanded the wall in the dinning room after I had laid the table for dinner on Christmas Day and painted it half an hour before guests arrived. Today has oiled the hinges of all the doors in the house.

I decided to polyfilla all the hairline cracks on my bedroom walls today, starting ten minutes before I was going for a long walk. Got home and messed around then finished it just before getting food ready. Now I have loads of snaking grey lines on a white wall that will likely stay there til at least July. Never done it before so it might actually be wrong.

It’s a few years ago, but my dad decided to renew the sealant around the cooker top. Whilst mum and I were cooking Xmas dinner.

SassyPearlEagle · 26/12/2025 20:58

Yet another thread about useless men trying to dodge household responsibilities...

And these posters think it's funny. FFS

ohyesido · 26/12/2025 20:58

My DH waits until I have my shoes on to decide that the radiators need bleeding and then tells me he’s waiting on me when I tell him to hurry the fuck up

Joeninety · 26/12/2025 20:57

Used the dishwasher to clean off a grubby engine part of my motorcycle. Surely this is nothing out of the ordinary ? Should have heard the fuss !

TheAphrodite · 26/12/2025 20:54

my fiance is super hands on at christmas luckily but I do remember a few years ago he started wiping the top of the cupboards in the kitchen down 😮‍💨🤣🤣 was he expecting the guests to come in and stand on a chair to reach that high and check how dusty they were? 🤣😭

Titillateanocelot · 26/12/2025 20:52

Around 11am on Xmas day my husband and FIL were drilling a hole in the wall 🙄. Sorry if you live next door to us 😂

lolawasashitgirl · 26/12/2025 20:44

I decided that I could get rid of a load of clothes I’ve been storing for the last year under the bed. I thought they were long gone so it was a surprise to see them!

they will now ride along in my car for a few weeks before going to the clothes bin🙂

Some of them could be resold but I know I’ll never get round to it. That was my Xmas miracle!

venusandmars · 26/12/2025 20:34

dh (who has ZERO diy skills) decided to replace the switches in the lights in the garage. I hadto stop what I was doing to hold the ladder.

The result is that none of the garage lights are working and we have to use a torch!

HayceeDeeCee · 26/12/2025 20:33

My DP decided to go into the loft ar 11am Xmas day to investigate a strange noise, he was up there a while and still didn't find it. Think it might be the aerial loose on the roof but it will wait.

My dear old dad, god rest his soul, decided to paint his 5 bar gate on Xmas day many years ago. We turned up for Xmas lunch and he was in his overalls with a tub of creosote ! I'd give anything to see that one more time x

PangolinPan · 26/12/2025 20:25

My DP, one hour before we had guests for Boxing Day, decided to spot clean all the dark marks on the carpet so there were lots of lovely wet patches on the floor. Meanwhile I was making crudités and shoveling presents out of the front room. 😕

Owly11 · 26/12/2025 20:24

I decided to put up a blind that has been sitting there for 4 years when I was making up the beds. I mean there's no more guaranteed way of getting a job done than giving it to the busiest person in the room, and there is not busier time of the year than xmas.

Uberaddict · 26/12/2025 20:18

@JoeTheDrummerWhy?????? it was so unbelievably hilarious
