Are you feeling positive about 2026?

Maybe it's a hang over from feeling so blah about Christmas but I'm not feeling particularly optimistic about 2026. I've no reason to feel apprehensive about it but here we are. I'm not superstitious but feel like the next 12 months is going to be tough for my family. Obviously I hope that I'll be digging up this post this time next year pointing out that I was talking crap.

Do you think it will be a good year for you?

Sure enough bad things are happening.

My husband has told me he has an ED. I naively thought he was just being fussy.

My daughter's mental health has plummeted. Last night I ACCIDENTLY hurt her. It was a genuine accident and I would never hurt her. She thinks I did it on purpose. I cant shake the feeling that it is a turning point for our relationship and I've lost her. 😪😪😪

Financially my husband has had to halve his hours.

I'm feeling pretty optimistic about my own and immediate families lives-but not about the state of the country or world affairs.

The same for me. I have lots to look forward to, and I’m generally quite an optimistic person anyway, but I agree things are not good in the wider world, nor can I see short term improvement.

Im feeling similar. Can’t explain why.
I usually feel optimistic about a new year and looking forward to the things that are planned for the next year.. but this time I’ve got this feeling of apprehension that something bad is going to happen.
Theres no real reason to feel like this, Ive just got a feeling that something will happen over the next year and it won’t be good, and next Christmas things will look very different for our family.

I hope we are both wrong. X

The end of this year has been rubbish for my family and some of my close friends and their families. My hope is that things are not as bad next year. Not positive as such, but it would be nice just to progress on an even keel.

Yes I'm feeling optimistic. I'm expecting my financial situation to improve, and I will have more time to myself as my youngest will start school. Some nice holidays planned, and normal life will be busy but expected to be similar to this year. Global issues unlikely to have much impact on my day to day life.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 26/12/2025 21:18

Trying! I’ve done well this year to get control of my health and diet and I plan to continue that next year. I’m enjoying my job and have 3 holidays already booked. Lots to look forward to and I’m starting 2026 a size 10 having started 2025 a size 18!

2024 was brutally tough for me and nearly broke me so it’s a huge relief things have got better.

AberEchtJetzt · 26/12/2025 21:16

I'm 36 and have always looked forward to a new year, wondering what I'll get up to, what'll happen etc. This is the first year ever that I feel very flat about it, and I can't put my finger on why.

ChristmasHug · 26/12/2025 21:15

Yes, you have to be don't you?

I have no reason to believe it will be worse, and I'm fairly content so happy if that continues.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 26/12/2025 21:15

Yeah, kind of. Like a PP I’ve kind of come to terms with the fact that the world is a bit of a bin fire and there’s not much i can do about most of it, so better to focus on what I can impact and try to positively impact my community and those around me.

PermanentTemporary · 26/12/2025 21:14

Me personally- I’m hugely looking forward to it. I really like my job and with any luck I can keep going at it. Dp turns 60 and we have great plans. Everyone except my mother is (touch wood) healthy at the moment and she isn’t suffering I think. I might have fewer bereavements (three last year).

dms1 · 26/12/2025 21:11

Yes! I’ve had a lot of emotional upheaval but I’ve come to terms with it all. I’m looking forward to a house move. I’ve a lot to be grateful for… have a lovely husband and children I adore.

DoritoBear · 26/12/2025 20:16

Unfortunately not. I’ve got a 2 week wait cancer referral appointment next week. I went to the dr for something completely unrelated so it was a bit of a shock.

I hope you’re treated kindly and that you recover quickly

Very. I’m retiring at the end of Dec 26 after 37 years nursing. Will be counting the weeks!

Congratulations!! I’m hoping to retire soon too. I remember how wonderful nursing used to be. Sad how it’s changed. I hope you have a wonderful retirement

Gymbunny2025 · 26/12/2025 21:03

Yes I am atm. Have 3 holiday booked. Goals I want to work towards. Hoping teen Dd becomes less moody…

SewingWarriorQueen76 · 26/12/2025 20:42

I’m aiming for it to be better

Work has been a challenge last year and I have two major issues to sort they just keep moving on and on. I want them sorted in 2026

Family wise yes I hope it will be better having gone NC with most of the narcissists I have a blood relatives. Boundaries are a good thing that I just need to keep in place.
I refuse to let other suck the joy out of things

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 26/12/2025 20:36

I’m not optimistic that 2026 will be ‘a good year’ as such, however 2025 has been so unbelievably shit that right now I’m kind of in the mindset that it can (touch wood) only be an improvement on this one!!!

soccermum10 · 26/12/2025 20:33

No not at all. We're going through something as a family at the moment and it will definitely take over the whole of next year. That being said, I am going to try and keep going and hope there is a light at the end of the year.

Gardener82 · 26/12/2025 20:29

Yes I’m optimistic that my 2026 will be a good one.
The last few years have been horrendous for me.
centred around the fact that the Met police reopened my claim of rape from 26 years ago meaning I had to face him in a court room.
It was hell for me and my husband who was amazing throughout.
I am glad it’s over and the only way is up, I’m going to book us a really lovely holiday, probably Greece.

Meadowfinch · 26/12/2025 20:28

I'm looking forward to 2026. Ds is doing well, so I'm hoping he'll get good a'level results. Then he'll head off to uni. That means the end of school fees (hooray) and my mortgage will end in May.

Everything is changing, we are all moving on, changing gear. 😊

user1471453601 · 26/12/2025 20:23

I think 26 will be much like 25. Some good, some bad.

what I know is that my family will get through the bad as well as possible and will celebrate the good as well as possible.

we will keep buggering on, much as we always do, relying, as always, on each other to pick us up when we fall, and to be ready to pick others up when we see them fall.

BlooomUnleashed · 26/12/2025 20:22

Yes, Very.

I have no crystal ball. But I’ve experienced A LOT of growth/improvement in the last 2 years. Finally feel like I’m working with my ADHD not against it. HRT has me beautifully stable mood wise (which could not be said of the pre-HRT years).

And I’ve (belatedly) worked out that just because an entire globe of trouble and strife can be beamed into my eyeballs stressing me out or making me feel doom and gloomy…. I don’t actually have to look at it. I can’t change any of it (got no vote here or back home). Unless it’s local, which I’ll hear about quick enough even if I avoid the rolling news, I can’t go and help people at the sharp end.

I’ve retrained my algorithm so it’s more upbeat and favours longer form (my attention span needs exercise).

Pretty sure that is all more relevant to my sense of optimism for 2026, but I do think I can see the small, green shoots of a shift beyond myself, on a larger scale. Could be the new sparkly algorithm, might be the lovely level of HRT making things look rosy, perhaps this what “you are officially old !” feels like, or there might be real green shoots out there.

It will be what it will be, but it is nice to be properly looking forward for once, rather than feeling my more typical slight sense of dooooooom.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 26/12/2025 20:16

Surprisingly, I am 🥰

Now that i've said that, i'm expecting something to go wrong! 😄

Oh I really hope you’re wrong and you have a great year. I’m feeling good about 2026, I enjoy making plans between Xmas and new year :) got a spa evening with a pal on Jan 2nd to kick things off! Doing a big walk with a big group of friends at some point, and going to Slovenia. So if nothing else, those will be nice!

Just back from Slovenia last week, it’s beautiful.
