If your partner has a football season ticket…

Would they go on Boxing Day and leave you home alone all day?
Just wondering if I’m being unreasonable because football bores me rigid and I can’t imagine leaving my partner of 6 years alone on Boxing Day.

When my husband did I had no issue him going boxing day, He doesn't need to entertain me i am not a child

I support a team in the middle of Germany. We have fans who travel incredible distances. At least one flies up from Switzerland for home games

I support a premier league London team.

An old friend emigrated to Oz about 20 years ago and still attends at least 10 home games a year - flying over for a few days then returning home

Daisylove1 · 26/12/2025 21:17

I have two toddlers and husband is a season ticket holder. I don’t care when he goes the match- Boxing Day is a good day to go surely?
One day isn’t a big deal. 99% of the comments here are saying you’re unreasonable- maybe you should listen.

RandomUsernameHere · 26/12/2025 20:58

DH and DS have tickets and would definitely go, there wasn’t a match today but they’re going on New Year’s Day. DD and I will go horse riding. You don’t have to stay at home you know!

I have been to a football match today (I'm female) and if I had a partner, they would absolutely be left at home if they didn't want to come with me!

Me too 😍

CosyDenimShark · 26/12/2025 20:53

Yes, the only reason I was peeved is I'm not a season ticket holder & couldn't get a ticket to go too. Instead, I enjoyed the peace and put my feet up watching a Disney+ movie they didn't want to watch. Absolute bliss.

Two days of the year wanting to spend time together as a couple, makes me needy?

Is this the only time you spend together as a couple? I doubt it & I would guess if it was then you’d have every reason to complain. But with nothing open in a 30 mile radius you’d be doing the same thing you do the majority of the time.

Well yes, but a season ticket implies regular attendance (or a waste of money getting one). I’d assume he’s travelling that far pretty much once a fortnight.

You’d assume OP would have a problem with that every other weekend too.

Tbh I think OP is just feeling miffed and wanted to vent.

She ad her DH need to learn to communicate and plan better.

I don’t get the social class comment.

Hello @Brefugee thought there might be more of our lot from our other thread over here on this thread 😉

The batsignal must have gone out...

H & son have a season ticket & I’ve been left many a Boxing Day on my own. I’ve enjoyed that more than having them here as Christmas is such a rush & because everyone breaks up a week before the day I’m ready for a bit of alone time

Brefugee · 26/12/2025 20:37

SleeplessInWherever · 26/12/2025 18:29

My main confusion is that if he has a season ticket for an English team, he’s driving at least 3hrs each way (ish!) for a normal Saturday home match.

Wouldn’t that be a problem all year round?

I thought it would have to be Middlesbrough as well. Basing that geographically rather than saying its a scary shithole. I haven't been there for a few years but pretty certain it isn't a scary place

And they are currently doing well after a few seasons of not doing so well

ChateauProvence · 26/12/2025 20:21

He wouldn’t but only because the public transport is so rubbish here Boxing Day other wise tbh yes he would . Tbf I don’t really mind either way

bittertwisted · 26/12/2025 20:17

Absolutely love football and would respect my DH and 3 DS wanting to use a gold dust season ticket on Boxing Day, but we support LFC
Am now hugely over invested in searching today’s fixtures to work out where this shithole is 😂😂

TwistedWonder · 26/12/2025 19:55

YouLookLikeStevieNicks · 26/12/2025 19:31

Really intrigued to know where this absolute scary shithole is!

As well as the place that has no takeaways, pubs or shops within 40 mile radius

Bigtreeesss · 26/12/2025 19:38

Good job you have a whole year to move to a less rural location and find a new partner to enforce your traditions on

Yes I drive up and down the UK frequently on my own. I have a big network.
But on Boxing day I would have liked to stay home with my partner, go for a hike and get the fire going, cook nice food, listen to music and chill together, rather than on my own.

Cant you just do that every weekend, if that’s what you like to do?

DiscoDown18 · 26/12/2025 19:24

Yes my partner would not miss a game - Boxing Day or otherwise. Sadly there isn't a match for his team today, I wish there was so I could happily chill out in peace!

SweatyGibbon · 26/12/2025 19:22

I'm still confused about where this scary town is, but this has been an entertaining read, thanks OP.

I’m the one with a season ticket so regularly abandon DH either with or without the children (they are also ST holders but don’t always want to come)
we have no Boxing Day match this year and it’s a bit rubbish tbh.

Same here, I’m the one with the season ticket and I’m sitting in the warm car before going to queue to get into the stadium. We’ve got the only PL Boxing Day game today and it’s an 8pm kick off so I’ve had most of the day at home.

My husband is happily at home in the warm with a tub of Roses and some beer.
