Inappropriate present, hideous bookends and me in drag!!!!

I love christmas, and I love christmas presents, I got my best friend a lovely calendar showing photos that were precious to me throughout the year of all the good times we have shared, in return, and this is so strange, I got two bookends, which have obviously been handmade, but look like my face, but in a grotesque punch and judy way, I'm not sure whether they are supposed to look so scary, but they are hideous, I actually had nightmares about them last night, and on top of that, a smaller 3D figurine which is basically me looking like a drag queen in hideous blonde hair and a massive red bow, they obviously took a long time and I get that, but I wonder what they are trying to tell me, they have sent me a message asking what I think of them and I really don't know what to say, to be honest, Im quite upset they see me that way. Im just a normal person who loves christmas, I was hoping for tickets to see a christmas carol or something like that.

we do have a history of playing practical jokes on each other, so I can see the funny side of it now, we tend to take turns over christmas with one of us buying an expensive present, and the other a cheap one on alternate years

Quite the drip feed

FFS

If you had said this tiny, weeny morsel of background info in your OP, then it would have explained the whole nonsense a lot

confusedgoldilocks · 27/12/2025 12:12

no, your thinking of the wizard of oz, this is something different, this is confused goldilocks and the ugly bookends, do keep up

Many thanks for the replies, all of which gave good food for thought, I should provide some background, I guess I am just a normal everyday person that got caught in a whirlwind of doubt and anxiety over this, and the replies gave a good balanced view which was actually quite helpful. To give some background, we are good friends, and we do have a history of playing practical jokes on each other, so I can see the funny side of it now, we tend to take turns over christmas with one of us buying an expensive present, and the other a cheap one on alternate years, so I should have probably explained this was my year for the cheap present, during the meal they were both laughing because I am a bit scatterbrained about money but I guess next day, sometimes everything can look glass half empty instead of half full .

No I am not Trans.

This morning I was about to throw the box out that had the bookends and I found half hidden away my ticket for the old vic, so they came down and there were hugs and all the sillyness was swept away.

It was interesting watching you all play devils advocate and all opinions were taken on board.

Thanks everyone for your contribution,

Happy New Year xx

And then you woke up?

confusedgoldilocks · 27/12/2025 12:09

and thats what christmas is all about!!!!!!

As Tiny Tim would say
God bless us, every one!!

Thank you for one of the most entertaining threads I've read on here. And they all lived happily ever after. That's all, folks!!

3luckystars · 27/12/2025 12:07

Does it have a big Pinocchio nose now too?😂

Thanks for the laughs x

confusedgoldilocks · 27/12/2025 12:06

its only a single ticket, I dont think it cost more than £50 actually, and yes, I have paid for ALL of the meal, and yes, I guess looking at the little blonde figurine, I suppose I can see some sort of resemblance, mainly my hair, but I still think it has an ugly face.

I can’t cope with this thread 🤣🤣

How, HOW have you gone from being so upset you could barely look at the gift, in such a tizzy over how awful it is, how much it devastates you… to suddenly remembering you usually play practical jokes on each other, and you now find it funny?

Also, you’ve just magically found the concert tickets? Are yougoing to accept these £300 tickets, plus not pay them back the £300 you owe them for the disastrous meal? So recently they’ve spent £600 on you and you’ve bought them a cheap photo calendar? I’m obsessed.

😂😂😂😂 I’m also obsessed. Keeps getting better! We need more from you OP

TheOccupier · 27/12/2025 11:58

Are you paying them back for the reataurant though? Why did you promise them a fancy meal out if it was your year to stick to a cheap present?

Poutingtrout · 27/12/2025 11:42

And who the hell takes it in turns where one year one party buys expensive presents and the other party buys cheap and you switch the next year?!! This has got to be one of the most bizarre things I have ever read on here 😂.

MummaMummaMumma · 27/12/2025 11:37

Pay them back for the meal! Insist!!
The bookends you've totally taken the wrong way. It's obviously a joke.

Alpacajigsaw · 27/12/2025 11:32

Oh come off it OP

we weren’t born yesterday

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 27/12/2025 11:28

It also changes from Bookends to BookMarks....

I somehow don't buy that, sorry @confusedgoldilocks Your friends sound weirdly generous, but also just weird.

None of it makes sense.

After seeing the recording of you, why didn't your friend message you to ask if you'd seen the theatre ticket?

This whole thread is so bizarre and also you’ve got a very low opinion of your friend that you think she’d do some weird, time consuming bullying just because you buggered up a Christmas meal.

I’ve just read OP’s last post and… what? Hours of desperate upset to then magically remember they get each other joke presents. Rightyo

Borka · 27/12/2025 11:26

Are you going to pay them back for the meal now?

confusedgoldilocks · 26/12/2025 15:45

If it had not been for the bookmarks, yes that would have been fine, but I have a hook nose, weird eyes and if I look closely, Im sure I can see a goatee, its so hurtful, it just makes me want to burst into tears, I dont think they could have make me look so ugly and horrible,

Grrrzelda · 27/12/2025 11:23

If this is true, and not just the OP saving face and shutting down, the friends paid for dinner and the ticket?

There are still some weird power dynamics going on.

Isekaied · 27/12/2025 11:21

😂

Everything sorted now

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 27/12/2025 11:21

Is someone trying out some material for a comedy show?

Needs work if so

XelaM · 27/12/2025 11:21

HerVagestyTheQueef · 27/12/2025 11:14
