Who got the worst gift?

Very very lighthearted. Some people are starving so no whining about not getting the perfect gift. Instead looking at it from a humoristic perspective: who got the worst gift in our family? Please add yours as well..
In our family;

  1. DH got 200 ml cologne while he wanted/needed 100 ml to bring with him on airplane (travels every week).
  2. I got fine chocolate with alcohol from uncle again (everyone has told him I do not like it but he just can't get it). He even added "I know you can't get enough of those". Not passive aggressive- that would be sinister. He really likes me and is convinced I like them.

Also got a large hand bag from DH. Not wildly expensive but still- the cords are too thin- I keep loads of stuff in my handbag. He bought it 3 months ago so can't return it.

  1. DS1 got a sort of a travel bag for mobile Phone to attach on bike from an aunt. He hasn't been riding his bike for years.

4.DS2 got a shirt of his favourite team that was so large on him it looked like a dress. Can't return it. Bil said he will grow in it😅

  1. Dh got Mil a a stylish coat size L. It was too small. Yet Mil isn't a big woman. I'm a medium and it was perfect on me but she's got bigger breasts. She wasn't happy about large being too small.. didn't say anything because very polite but it was obvious she was unhappy.
  1. Aunt got a big box of chocolate. She's on wli and barely eats anything. Def not chocolate. She discreetly passed them on to dh.

So who wins?

There is no waste though... its a piece of paper that went in the bin (or recycling).

The (likely small) business gets the money and can continue to sell to customers that want it... nothing at all has has been 'wasted' except the givers time on gifting with nasty intent.

Its not like they killed a cow on cue when the voucher was created and set aside the meat specifically only for OP where it will now rot in the window front of starving children and animals... this isn't a cartoon, other people can buy the meat they sell that OP doesn't want.

I didn't suggest the food has been wasted. What has been wasted is the opportunity to do something good with a gift that was given with ill intent. PP doesn't care about that though, and I ceased caring about the whole topic shortly after replying!

How have you come to the conclusion that no one else had an issue with it, when many others also commented? We should all try to be less wasteful.

If I were you next year I'd have a conversation with my brother about no longer bothering with gifts for eachother if you're just buying things like chocolate bars. Seems a bit pointless.

Agree, tho why bother at all if you're only concerned about the £££ cost.

I got some old lady slippers and a super warm blanket from my DP and a few generic bits from my Amazon wish list which I mostly keep updated for the dcs to choose gifts from.
Overall he spent less than £100 on me - I'm not bothered about the amount of money he spent. However I know he's spent £450 on the other woman which I've recently discovered. He's booked a weekend away in a beautiful cottage for them both. They are going this weekend. He doesn't know that I know but he will when he gets back!!

That is awful. You need to start a thread and keep us all updated.

Bushwoolie · 28/12/2025 11:09

We got a gift voucher.
DH spent it on wall brackets despite saying we'd share. We don't need wall brackets.

My mil got me an old lady house coat. Akin to the picture attached. But it’s pink. 😶

it looks like it comes with a warning label to “keep away from fire”

Well if you haven't read it, how do you know that it's terrible???

I don’t need to read a whole book to know the writing is awful. A page or two is usually enough.

linsey2581 · 27/12/2025 17:58

My parents (most likely my mum though) gave me a £20 gift card for Next. The gift card or amount doesn’t bother me I love a gift card but it’s Next. I can’t stand that shop absolutely hate it, clothes and homeware stuff is just shite and the shop is overrated.

Online Next is fine. I buy lots of stuff from there but Id agree the actual shop is shite.

I asked my mum for inexpensive trainers or money for them if she couldn’t manage the internet (she can’t). Instead I got an ornament of a cockerpoo. She knows I hate ornaments but ‘thought I’d like this one’…

omg, this is so funny.

Ooof. That is someone who really doesn’t like you!

It was my mother in law 😂😂😂

Dollybantree · 27/12/2025 22:24

Your parents sounds very nasty. I wouldn’t want people like this in my life.

Sorry to keep commenting on individual posts but some on these are just awful.

It's a difficult one because if you speak about it they say it's not their fault, they tried their best, how ungrateful I am and how no one's ever happy with what they do. Which in turn makes me feel awful, maybe theyre just terrible gift givers? 🥲

pouletvous · 28/12/2025 08:17

Your family should knock gift giving on the head. At least for adults

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 28/12/2025 08:14

@SoftBalletShoes yes, they’re a very close relative and we’ve spoken at length about the eczema. They have young children of their own who I can’t imagine would use these at the same age.
But I do remember them buying DS a large selection box for his first Christmas 🤯 so maybe they’re just a bit crap at gifts.

They like to make themselves victims so it’s not worth mentioning as they’ve already cut off several family members for perceived slights.

Lemondrizzle4A · 28/12/2025 07:40

John Lewis sell them so do Penhaligon. Bought for my daughters who both travel extensively.

Lovelyindevon · 28/12/2025 07:23

I got a pair of white shoelaces that may/may not be luminous and a bottle of black charcoal toothpaste tablets from our refugee house guest. I think these came from temu.

Some olives too. Not complaining, lovely really, it’s just another bizarre event.

Rottweilermummy · 28/12/2025 05:49

Happy with gifts this year, But in previous years one of my Sisters gave late husband an air freshener (because he smoked) and my eldest went shopping with my sil to buy presents for first time. I got a totally rubbish make up bag, while my mother in law got a beautiful musical jewllery box 😪

DH was gifted Brut soap on a rope.

My DH would love that , as he uses the body spray. he prefers soap than shower gel. i need to get him one lol.

ElizaSchuylerHamilton243 · 28/12/2025 03:25

A very sweet person bought my milk and soy allergic toddler a chocolate advent calendar for Christmas (received as a present). Bit awkward. No one said anything and we will probably just decant the chocolates into a bowl.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 28/12/2025 01:59

My DS got a bath bomb. Firstly, he has severe eczema. Secondly, he’s 3. Who buys a bath bomb for a 3yr old boy? 🙄

Did they know about the eczema? I can see how they thought a toddler might be entertained by a bath bomb, with the colours and the fizzing and the smell.

I was given a handmade shit-brown cosmetic bag with brown cats on it, filled with dollar-store hand-creams and body washes that I can’t use. Also gifted the same terrible book I was given last year, that I haven’t read 🙂

Well if you haven't read it, how do you know that it's terrible???

Oh please can I win this thread…? My boyfriend gave me a set of smart/body composition scales for Christmas!

Oh NO!!!!!! Has he got a death wish?? 🤣 Clearly he does not value his life.

MobyTick · 28/12/2025 02:31

Dollybantree · 28/12/2025 02:02

Come on - what’s the book? 😂

I wouldn’t want to shame the author. I’m sure they worked hard on it, but we don’t all have the same taste.
