Who got the worst gift?

Very very lighthearted. Some people are starving so no whining about not getting the perfect gift. Instead looking at it from a humoristic perspective: who got the worst gift in our family? Please add yours as well..
In our family;

  1. DH got 200 ml cologne while he wanted/needed 100 ml to bring with him on airplane (travels every week).
  2. I got fine chocolate with alcohol from uncle again (everyone has told him I do not like it but he just can't get it). He even added "I know you can't get enough of those". Not passive aggressive- that would be sinister. He really likes me and is convinced I like them.

Also got a large hand bag from DH. Not wildly expensive but still- the cords are too thin- I keep loads of stuff in my handbag. He bought it 3 months ago so can't return it.

  1. DS1 got a sort of a travel bag for mobile Phone to attach on bike from an aunt. He hasn't been riding his bike for years.

4.DS2 got a shirt of his favourite team that was so large on him it looked like a dress. Can't return it. Bil said he will grow in it😅

  1. Dh got Mil a a stylish coat size L. It was too small. Yet Mil isn't a big woman. I'm a medium and it was perfect on me but she's got bigger breasts. She wasn't happy about large being too small.. didn't say anything because very polite but it was obvious she was unhappy.
  1. Aunt got a big box of chocolate. She's on wli and barely eats anything. Def not chocolate. She discreetly passed them on to dh.

So who wins?

A romantic weekend away in London with partner, lovely I thought, because I usually have to take charge of booking everything when we go away.

Turns out he's booked us in a 'capsule hotel'. So separate rooms, in separate areas of the building. The room itself is actually just a bed you crawl into and a shutter you pull down. Like sleeping in a self storage facility. Don't worry though, apparently he'll buy me a combination lock so I can lock myself in and feel safe...... FML

You win. Am crying laughing here 🤣

DH was gifted Brut soap on a rope.

I bought my DS9 some Brut aftershave so he can be like Kevin in Home Alone 😄

honeyfox · 26/12/2025 00:42

I got a £15 gift voucher to Just Eat from my DH. I got him a £400 game console so we’re basically equal.

This is the worst! What can you get for £15. And he will probably expect to share the takeaway with you. Please tell us about the aftermath of the gift exchange.

Old coffee jar containing a (used) pen and open packet of Post-it notes…it’s a memory jar apparently.

My mil got me an old lady house coat. Akin to the picture attached. But it’s pink. 😶

I’d be quite happy with this if it was a less boring colour, maybe burgundy, dark blue or even black. The shape is fine. Not sure why nightclothes have to come in elderly pastels!

Ohhh I'd be fuming.

Mil gave me a black suede m&s gift set for men! Either it was a passive aggressive regift or she's losing her marbles!

Size 18 PJ's from DH - I'm a 12.

He's usually spot on with gifts and was a genuine mistake 🙈. Unfortunately they were Xmas ones though so doubt I'll get a straight swap.

I had a box of mince pies wrapped up 😅 someone at work gave me a present and I thought oh that's sweet and opened it this morning and thought oh haha.

MIL does this for DH, with the added bonus of having bought them so long ago they are out of date by Christmas!

See also my post from another thread:
An Avon room scents Advent calendar from MIL that she says lots of people recommended it to her as a perfect Christmas gift. Can someone make it make sense to give an Advent calendar as a Christmas present?!

I get migraines from room scents/air fresheners etc, so I cannot use it, which she does know. I am also pretty sure it is from last year as it says packaged in 2024 on the back and that she probably got it as a tombola prize. It would not be the first time she has done this.

I got gifted a bottle of chocolate orange baileys.

I have been teetotal my whole life (parents were alcoholics) and I'm allergic to most citrus fruits, but orange in particular. The smell of oranges (and orange chocolate) makes me feel nauseous.

Desperately hoping nobody slips and tells the poor person who bought it as they are the in law of a guest here last minute due to a travel issue and they'd be mortified if they knew.

DS got 2 identical Lynx gift sets. One from us and one from MIL. He took it all in good humour as he’s 16 and actually loves the stuff. His view was well, I have plenty to keep me going for the year 🤣

I can top that as my nephew got EIGHT lynx sets 😂 luckily he finds it hilarious and will have them in his separate gym/football/school bags.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 25/12/2025 23:33

DP's father sent him an expensive bottle of whisky and two glasses.

After he started a health kick following his dad having a series of strokes aged 63, DP hasn't drunk alcohol for about nine years.

The glasses will be used for juice, the whisky will probably sit in a cupboard somewhere with any other alcohol we've been given for the next decade or so.
