Who got the worst gift?

arcticpandas · 25/12/2025 21:47

Very very lighthearted. Some people are starving so no whining about not getting the perfect gift. Instead looking at it from a humoristic perspective: who got the worst gift in our family? Please add yours as well..
In our family;

  1. DH got 200 ml cologne while he wanted/needed 100 ml to bring with him on airplane (travels every week).
  2. I got fine chocolate with alcohol from uncle again (everyone has told him I do not like it but he just can't get it). He even added "I know you can't get enough of those". Not passive aggressive- that would be sinister. He really likes me and is convinced I like them.

Also got a large hand bag from DH. Not wildly expensive but still- the cords are too thin- I keep loads of stuff in my handbag. He bought it 3 months ago so can't return it.

  1. DS1 got a sort of a travel bag for mobile Phone to attach on bike from an aunt. He hasn't been riding his bike for years.

4.DS2 got a shirt of his favourite team that was so large on him it looked like a dress. Can't return it. Bil said he will grow in it😅

  1. Dh got Mil a a stylish coat size L. It was too small. Yet Mil isn't a big woman. I'm a medium and it was perfect on me but she's got bigger breasts. She wasn't happy about large being too small.. didn't say anything because very polite but it was obvious she was unhappy.
  1. Aunt got a big box of chocolate. She's on wli and barely eats anything. Def not chocolate. She discreetly passed them on to dh.

So who wins?

I got nothing from my partner.. and my MIL got me a game "Pass the Pigs" whilst announcing at the table all the gifts had a 'funny' meaning...

Lobsterteapot · 26/12/2025 04:18

Weight loss injections?

Auntiebenita · 26/12/2025 04:17

Aunt is on wli. What is "wli"please?

cannynotsay · 26/12/2025 03:48

I got given an ashtray. I don’t smoke

ApolloandDaphne · 26/12/2025 03:46

My DD1 gave DD2s partner a pair of running shorts. They were exactly the correct make and type in a size L but they were large boys not mens. Thankfully he found it hilarious. All my gifts were great.

MerryChristmasFilthyAnimals · 26/12/2025 03:36

3 Baylis & Harding gift sets…

Knowing how much mumsnet hates them I’d say I’m in the running to win.

One was off a neighbour, one from my friends daughter which was really sweet but the 3rd one was (amongst other lovely gifts) from my DP.
He was so proud of himself saying he’d got the brand I always use and got it at a really good price as I don’t normally let him use it and say it’s too expensive.
I use Molton Brown and can’t bear to tell him and hurt him so I’ll be using the B&H stuff as quickly as possible so I can replace it!

My mil got me an old lady house coat. Akin to the picture attached. But it’s pink. 😶

Bloody hell - my brother got his wife one like this years ago.

The marriage survived - barely!

Chickychickybye · 26/12/2025 03:09

So ungrateful OP! I hope one day I am in the position to be moaning about such gifts!

Trumpton · 26/12/2025 02:52

A screw driver. A hand screwdriver. I have my own tool kit and apparently the screwdriver I have is unpleasant to use.
I was bemused. I do all the DIY in the house. If I wanted a new screwdriver I would buy a new screwdriver!
Actually I checked the old one and the handle is degrading so I have thrown it away and replaced it with the shiny new one! But still….
Married 51years and he still surprises me!

Oh and an Apple Watch. Hmmm I have no interest in one I like my Fitbit and think Apple Watches are a bit fancy for the life I lead. My phone, one the other hand, is an iPhone 11 and beginning to show its age. But I feel mean that both were a bit off and my diamond shoes are too tight!

Crying with laughter at the capsule hotel 🤣🤣

What, like literally crying?

I salute you. I wish I was that easy to please with comedy.

DH bought me one of those xmas jumpers that you see advertised on social media. It's got a cartoon of me with our cats on it, which is sweet. Except he spelled my name wrong. We've been together for 32 years.

Made me laugh!!! So sorry.

My DH would do something like this 😂

DS and I both bought each other a CD. Both thinking the car had a CD player. It doesn't. We have nothing to play them on and both have Spotify anyway .... the fact we both did it is bizarre.

Ireolu · 26/12/2025 01:52

I bought DH gloves for women by mistake. Will hopefully exchange over the next few days. I messed up quite badly.

Catladywithoutacat · 26/12/2025 01:31

Anyone who got any bath sets or lynx got the worse gifts

bonquiqui · 25/12/2025 22:03

My mum bought one of these for her neighbour… Who is 95

My granny got me one just like that last year, but it was purple. And i really do like purple, but that was much more suited to someone at least 50 years older than me.

My inlaws got me 2 dresses. I am really particular about what dresses I wear. I hate clothes shopping, and clothes in general and I only wear jersey cotton. These are both polyester monstrosities.

A romantic weekend away in London with partner, lovely I thought, because I usually have to take charge of booking everything when we go away.

Turns out he's booked us in a 'capsule hotel'. So separate rooms, in separate areas of the building. The room itself is actually just a bed you crawl into and a shutter you pull down. Like sleeping in a self storage facility. Don't worry though, apparently he'll buy me a combination lock so I can lock myself in and feel safe...... FML

🤣🤣

I’m guessing that this means communal bathroom as well! Lovely! 😂

I hope you wear it, just for the fun of it!

BeMintFatball · 26/12/2025 01:22

@GrinchoftheNorth a capsule hotel - omg that is funny 🤣

DramaAlpaca · 26/12/2025 01:16

DH and I are both hard to please, so we buy stuff for ourselves during the year and give them to each other to wrap up for Christmas. We always add in a couple of bits we chose for each other as well.

This year, the gift he chose for me was oven gloves Confused

He thought I'd love them as they have penguins on them. I have zero idea why he thought that he knows I like flamingos, not penguins ffs and also they're those linked ones, and he knows we always use oven mitts. I know I sound like an ungrateful brat but we've been married over 30 years, he should know this stuff.

At least he bought me the gorgeous handbag I spotted on holiday this year, so it's not all bad.

Fatrascal27 · 26/12/2025 01:11

A jar of peanut butter. I am partial to fancy marmalades. The artisan kind. DH didn’t find time to get me that so picked up a jar of M and S peanut butter. He did buy me a book I wanted but I told him that one.

i don’t think he sees presents as important. I just can’t be arsed with it anymore. If I say im
disappointed it will end on a row.

He is so shit at presents. One year I got a battered scruffy candle from TKMaxx. My best mate got a Mulberry handbag from her DH.

Old coffee jar containing a (used) pen and open packet of Post-it notes…it’s a memory jar apparently.

I’m sorry, but this has really made me laugh. What an inventive rebranding of a pile of old shite

Not me, I got great gifts.

My sister bought me a beautiful scarf featuring a bird that she knows I love. So gorgeous is it , that I bought it for myself when I spotted it in the gift shop of a museum a few months ago. It's really unusual so I am shocked she came across it. It will be nice to have a spare!

This is the worst! What can you get for £15. And he will probably expect to share the takeaway with you. Please tell us about the aftermath of the gift exchange.

Yes! Please tell us what you said to him 😡
