You've never been to a travelodge have you!!!

I have - but it was a while ago. I think they can differ in quality, some have been upgraded, others more basic.

No water glasses in the bathroom ?

Well I got a nice new mug for Christmas, and a bottle of Baileys. I was sitting on the sofa and couldn't be bothered to get up for a glass, so I drank the Baileys from the mug. One of the nice things about being an adult is being able to do this kind of thing 😁

supersonicginandtonic · 26/12/2025 04:52

@ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy nothing 😢

NameChange14192089 · 26/12/2025 01:05

If that's what you want to do, go for it. I prefer to drink it straight from the bottle.

I've been drinking wine from a mug this evening. Staying in a travelodge. There are no glasses.

Not unreasonable to drink your wine out of whatever you choose - but why do you need to pretend ? What’s it to do with your sister?

GlowUpMum · 25/12/2025 20:36

I’m not an alcoholic.

Ok right we beleive you, when there is no other vessel I will drink out of a mug but I dont care who sees, you are scared someone sees you drink alcohol and you think you dont have alcohol issues?

soupyspoon · 25/12/2025 23:10

Im of the opinion that the vessel makes the drink taste different. There are particular mugs in the house that I cant drink tea out of, its just not as good.

So no. You cant drink wine out of a mug, drink it out of a proper glass with a stem

Im an alcoholic in recovery and hiding alcohol in plain sight is the oldest trick in the book OP. Why you so bothered about your sister knowing if its really not a big deal??

Fundays12 · 25/12/2025 22:53

GlowUpMum · 25/12/2025 20:36

I’m not an alcoholic.

Why hide it then? Its a fluorescent question as I really dont understand the need to hide it.

GlowUpMum · 25/12/2025 19:14

What do you drink in the mug?

Red or white wine. Depends on my mood. It's for things where it would feel odd to be sipping away out of a wine glass but I need something to get me through it.

Dontyoulooktired · 25/12/2025 20:59

shhblackbag · 25/12/2025 20:43

Then why care what your sister thinks? It's your house.

I thought of my alcoholic friend who hid her wine in a water bottle. So, I think it's not a good idea, but I have bad associations.

If OPs anything like my dad was, she won’t stop banging on about drinking.

Some people are so fucking sanctimonious about it, it’s best just to hide it from them.

No my granny used to drink vodka out of a mug. She thought we couldn't see her drinking booze. Hiding alcohol consumption is the start of a dangerous spiral.

I have a special mug I use for evening zoom meetings for boring but necessary things like charity AGM's / organisation committees I'm involved in.

Countduckula52 · 25/12/2025 19:13

If it’s shit wine, fine. If it’s good wine it’s a NO! Only fine crystal and a very thin wine glass will do. The thinnest of the thinnest crystal.

Placestogo · 25/12/2025 19:09

No - my mil did this but she had an alcohol problem

Cabinqueen · 25/12/2025 19:06

I can recall drinking vodka and tonic from a pint measuring jug, because the host had just moved house and she couldn't find the glasses so no judgement here...😁🤣

PennyLaneisinmyheartandmysoul · 25/12/2025 19:05

Ah @GlowUpMum your thread will have brought so much joy… from those who get you, to those who delight in their apoplexy at your audacity to have wine in a mug! 🤣Feliz Navid! 🥂

Whosthetabbynow · 25/12/2025 19:03

I seem to recall drinking wine out of a gravy boat back in the day, at a house party where all the drinking vessels were being used

tuvamoodyson · 25/12/2025 19:00

Yes.
