DH is a spoilt brat

He is going to be gifted a perfume today. He asked for 100 ml but Mil asked me to order 200 ml. I helped her out with her online orders. Partner said oh did I ask for a perfume? I told him yes. He said: but did I ask for 100 ml? I said yes but your mum might have gotten you more since she's generous, you will see.
He goes off yelling about not being able to take it on his travels (100 ml limit) and I should have known better and he has no use for 200 ml. I told him I don't travel often neither does Mil so how the fuck were we to think that he wanted his perfume for travel.

Mil has thrown ticket and box away so can't return. I am so furious with dh acting like a spoilt brat. Our kids would never act like this even if disappointed- they are teens and polite.

Later on he came and said sorry I shouldn't have reacted like that...and then he went on again talking about how he'll have no use for it and he will buy his 100 ml himself and how he will never ask for anything again ! Bonkers ! If it wasn't for my kids I would be leaving for a couple of days. Immature entitled twat!! I have been disappointed with gifts but never said something but believe me this year I will not save his feelings and will tell him to return anything I don't like. Would that be unreasonable?

After reading this thread, I now can't stand the word "decant"

😂

Cerezo · 25/12/2025 11:48

This happened to me once. I spent about 10-15 mins decanting it one spray at a time as it was sealed into a 100ml bottle.

Was grateful to have twice as much as I asked for and honestly hadn’t even remembered the back break labour required on my part until this thread today. Realise now i should have kicked RIGHT off.

fishfingerbutty · 25/12/2025 11:45

Ill mannered and thick as well.

Eyeshadow · 25/12/2025 11:39

He specifically asked for 100mls and it’s annoying when people don’t listen to the one thing you ask for.

However, getting the 200ml wasn’t malicious and even though i understand he may have felt a bit miffed, it’s not the worst thing in the world and his reaction was ridiculous.

All he has to do is buy one for himself and keep that one at home (or buy a travel dispenser as PPs have suggested).

ChocolateCinderToffee · 25/12/2025 11:39

Goodness, this is a minor irritation easily solved. Why does he need scent when he's travelling? I wear it every day but unless I've got a miniature I don't take it on holiday.

mbonfield · 25/12/2025 11:34

Families who would have them!

PhantomOfAllKnowledge · 25/12/2025 11:34

He's coming over as very unpleasant. Fancy making an issue of something like that on Christmas Day! He can buy his own 100ml for travelling and use the 200ml at home. When I used to travel regularly for work, I had duplicates of everything like perfume, cosmetics etc. so I didn't have to keep packing and unpacking, other than my clothes.

Tryingatleast · 25/12/2025 11:19

he acted like an asshole but then apologised so I think some of the reactions on this thread are a bit ott! Can you decant perfumes! That’s fab if you can (I have a huge perfume here and just bring mini sprays if sure etc abroad!!)

CosyMintFish · 25/12/2025 11:19

I don’t know - your DH asked for something quite specific but you decided to do something different. Your intentions were good but I can see how he might feel upset that you didn’t listen to what he’d asked for. Everyone has completely rational feelings and intentions here - I guess the lesson is one about clearer communications next time.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 25/12/2025 11:16

Weird behaviour. Is there a reason he can't wear it day to day or is he constantly travelling?

MrsWhites · 25/12/2025 11:13

What an absolute knob! Doesn’t have the intelligence to think of buying an atomiser but calls other people names for not thinking!

Bromptotoo · 25/12/2025 11:09

I don't use after shave or similar male perfumes but herself likes Chanel No 19.

Decants it into a small atomiser. More for handbag use then travel but it ain't rocket science.

TheTecknician · 25/12/2025 11:04

What a prick. That is all I have to say🙄.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 25/12/2025 10:50

I have one of those 5ml atomisers linked above for my travels - actually really useful!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/12/2025 10:49

My DS have travel atomisers for aftershave. DS2 is a blind young adult and he still manages to decant his aftershave. I am sure your DH will manage. Tell him to stop being an ungrateful drama queen.

theresnolimits · 25/12/2025 10:45

You get an atomiser that has a pump action. You don’t need to unseal the perfume bottle, just put the atomiser on top of the tube without the white attachment spray and pump it in. Takes a couple of minutes. If the perfume costs a bomb (how generous mum) it’s worth a small investment in an atomiser.

Although UK airports have stopped the 100ml, in my experience airports overseas haven’t and the risk is he couldn’t bring it back.

TittyGajillions · 25/12/2025 10:39

If my husband threw a hissy fit about 'perfume' I'd find it hard to ever take him seriously again.

Sanasaaa · 25/12/2025 10:38

How incredibly unattractive. You like this bloke?

gamerchick · 25/12/2025 10:37

Give your MIL a heads up so she can not give it to him at all.

BusterGonad · 25/12/2025 10:35

Besides the point, but why would his mum take it out of the box before giving it to him. Weird. It's like buying someone a pair of shoes and throwing the shoe box away.

notacooldad · 25/12/2025 10:35

Tell him to decant some into a travel perfume holder like this

No tell him to grow the fuck up and behave like an adult and if he doesn't know how to he had better learn fast!

What a div!

Lotsnlotsoflove · 25/12/2025 10:35

How often does he travel OP?

diddl · 25/12/2025 10:34

I wonder if he would have yelled at his mum in such a way if just given the fragrance?

Why is he checking what he asked for?

Perhaps he should have specified why he wanted 100ml?

themerchentofvenus · 25/12/2025 10:30

@arcticpandas he is a dick. No one takes their 100ml bottle when travelling in case it gets broken.

Surely he has an atomiser that you decant some into??
