DH is a spoilt brat

He is going to be gifted a perfume today. He asked for 100 ml but Mil asked me to order 200 ml. I helped her out with her online orders. Partner said oh did I ask for a perfume? I told him yes. He said: but did I ask for 100 ml? I said yes but your mum might have gotten you more since she's generous, you will see.
He goes off yelling about not being able to take it on his travels (100 ml limit) and I should have known better and he has no use for 200 ml. I told him I don't travel often neither does Mil so how the fuck were we to think that he wanted his perfume for travel.

Mil has thrown ticket and box away so can't return. I am so furious with dh acting like a spoilt brat. Our kids would never act like this even if disappointed- they are teens and polite.

Later on he came and said sorry I shouldn't have reacted like that...and then he went on again talking about how he'll have no use for it and he will buy his 100 ml himself and how he will never ask for anything again ! Bonkers ! If it wasn't for my kids I would be leaving for a couple of days. Immature entitled twat!! I have been disappointed with gifts but never said something but believe me this year I will not save his feelings and will tell him to return anything I don't like. Would that be unreasonable?

You can buy mini atomisers for travelling.

ThereWillBeReaperCushionsSoBeWarned · 25/12/2025 13:21

He’s obviously overreacted as he could just buy another himself, or as others have said, decant into a travel bottle.

However, I don’t like really large 200ml bottles of perfume, I always buy the 50ml or 100ml at most. It can be a bit disappointing when you have asked for something specifically and get something different. He shouldn’t react as he has though obviously and needs to get a grip.

Hallywally · 25/12/2025 13:15

Aw his poor mum. What an ungrateful fuckwit.

ForTipsyFinch · 25/12/2025 13:11

I think this forum has given me a warped perception of relationships…here’s to being single 🍷

Fuck me, how often is he travelling? Is he an international fucking superstar???

Ha, no in sales. Is travelling 2-4 days per week.

He wants staff to be impressed by his bottle. Nothing to do with the scent.

😂 that's so funny. Noone will see his bottle in his hotel room. He just likes beautiful objects, some people do. I understand that but he could just buy himself 100 ml and leave the 200 ml at home. I even offered to do it but he went all " no, no, I'll handle it".

To be fair, he normally wouldn't be this mental about it but might have muttered something. So he's def overreacted due to stress.

Pack away! And don't forget to pack your perfume!

Not trying to be out of line but that smacks of I’ve got a woman I’m trying to impress on my work trip.

when men act like little boys when they don’t usually it’s almost always because they can’t have something they want.

Or is he always like this? Did his mother allow him to behave like this growing up? What did she say when he started acting like this?

This is so irrational and rude that either way you should start the new year without him.

Edited

🤣 No, no other woman. He uses perfume everyday, at home as well.

His mum doesn't take any of his shit thank god. She has always been loving but very strict when it comes to manners.

Yeah, I should just lbt for new year. Am packing my bags as I write this.

@arcticpandas

This is a man who is intentionally working up a good 'anger' over something truly insignificant. You have to ask yourself why that might be. It's usually one of three reasons;

1-he's simply a garden variety abusive arsehole.

2-he's looking for a reason to end his marriage. Either by working up 'angers' to justify ending it or trying to provoke you into doing so.

3-he's having an affair and using a stupid reason to justify it.

If I were you I think I'd sit down and quietly think this over. Is this really where you want to be, how you want to live?

  1. He's been having a rough month at work and our autistic DS1 is in a crazy period where he just screams right out for everything and nothing so DH is very much on edge. It explains why but doesn't excuse him for acting like a dick.

He wouldn't want to decant- thank you all for that advice though. He really likes to have the original- I'm the practical one and he's the precious one:).

Utter spoiled brat!!!

Pedallleur · 25/12/2025 12:42

Put it on eBay? Job done. He can buy 100ml at the airport?

Imbusytodaysorry · 25/12/2025 12:41

@arcticpandas so he travels alot , you don’t
He wears aftershave while away so needs a 100ml . 200ml is no use as I take it he doesn’t wear it for you or around you .
Why ?
I actually can’t get my head around this man and glad I don’t have too.
He sounds like a wrong one . I bet there is loads more of this behaviour.

If he’s not a good husband you can leave . If he’s being an arse and it’s not a regular thing of tell him what I thought then ignore him. He is not worth the stress .

myhaggisblewup · 25/12/2025 12:34

I'm wondering if he's old enough to be let out on his own, he acts like a sulking, pouting toddler.
I would really not want to sleep with someone so immature and stupid tbh.

ScruffMuffin · 25/12/2025 12:25

Ungrateful git. Send him a link to a travel container (or buy one) and leave him to his mantrum.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 25/12/2025 12:18

Decant into atomiser and every time he "travels" make sure he has it with him.

Going to Tescos: "have you got your travel perfume?"
Going to football: "have you got your travel perfume?"
Going to the garden shed: "have you got your travel perfume?"

I agree with @AcrossthePond55 He is doing this for a reason.

araiwa · 25/12/2025 12:13

4- his wife and mother never listen to him and think they know better and buy something inappropriate

I'd probably be pouring it over his head.
Then he'd smell nice for days, which might take the edge off him being a bit of an idiot 😀

I was going to suggest pissing in his cornflakes, but this is probably better, yes 👍

ChristmasFluff · 25/12/2025 12:02

My goodness, how the hell did you manage to marry such a stupid rude twat?

Unless he is massively apologetic and was too drunk to work out how to resolve his non-issue, you need to rectify this mistake quickly. WTF would happen if you did something that actually might be a bit hurtful?

In fact, this is pointing to a bigger problem - abusers love to ruin happy events, and that looks like his motive here.
