Xmas day in PJs?

Ultravox · 24/12/2025 11:13

I read it on here quite a lot that people spend all of Xmas day in PJs. Each to their own and all that but I just can’t imagine it…I guess I could imagine it more if we got a takeaway for dinner but just can’t imagine cooking & eating a Xmas dinner in PJs! So am I in a minority? Is it normal?

I’m Team: Get Dressed on Christmas Day.
It’s so louche to sit around in your pyjamas all day.

What can’t you do on Christmas Day in pj’s that you can in regular clothes (other than go outside which we won’t be doing)?

AgnesMcDoo · 24/12/2025 16:48

Not for me. But each to their own.

I don't want to look at anyone's genitalia bulging through thin cotton, thanks.

I must disagree, it used to be the highlight for us at Christmas in the Cabinet Office.

( I should add that not all genitalia was bulging 😉)

phoenixrosehere · 24/12/2025 16:45

Only pjs if we’re staying in our home for Christmas which only started in 2020 and happens every few years other than that we were staying with in-laws and the very occasion my parents since they are in the States.

I’m not bothered either way and don’t care why others do. The day is not that relaxing for me whether I’m in pjs or every day clothes.

toastandegg · 24/12/2025 16:40

Immediate family only here, clean pyjamas will be on after I’ve showered and will stay on until I take them off for bed, no chance of being cold as I will be cooking.

MildlyAnnoyed · 24/12/2025 16:30

I’d always get dressed on any day not just Christmas Day.

DetectiveDouche · 24/12/2025 16:26

I can't imagine it personally because there has never been a Christmas where I haven't had to go out (picking up/dropping off family members etc). Sounds nice though.. especially if they were new Christmassy pjs

Emmz1510 · 24/12/2025 16:26

We don’t do it although nothing wrong with it. My daughter probably would given half a chance but she’s getting a lot of clothes this year so it’s nice for her to be dressed in them. But yeah, wearing fresh clean jammies after having had a shower, brushed teeth, possibly with hair and make up done if that’s what you like, is a lot different from lazing around all day in the pyjamas you wore last night and doing nothing about personal hygiene!

@AshesUnderUricon why are you spending your Christmas breaking into peoples houses to stare at their thinly veiled genitalia? You know Netflix is approx £6 for a month.

😅

Because they're not day clothes.

i think it's just that gross seems an over statement for getting up, washed and clean clothes on just because those clothes were last worn in bed before being washed again

Nichelette · 24/12/2025 16:18

I just couldn't. But it's not hurting anyone, so each to their own. Only time I don't get dressed fairly soon after I'm up is if I'm ill. I feel the same when people are wearing them outside the house.

moomoo1967 · 24/12/2025 16:06

Depends if I'm going out or staying in

WinterBerry40 · 24/12/2025 16:05

I think Christmas Day is almost the best day to do it and real cute if the whole family embraces it .
It's a do what you want day .

PartiallyStars · 24/12/2025 16:02

I would feel seriously weird cooking and eating a roast, drinking booze, playing games and socialising with wider family while wearing pyjamas. Really uncomfortable! Also, I don't wear a bra when wearing pyjamas. If I'm not wearing a bra I really wouldn't want anyone to see me (36G). If I am wearing a bra, I might as well not be wearing pyjamas, that's what makes them comfy.

No
Actual clothes here- usually smarter than normal. A sparkly top, a smart shirt etc
Hair and make up done

I can't imagine wearing pyjamas in front of anyone other than my immediate family

Edited

I can’t imagine dressing in smarter clothes just to have a meal at home - might be different if you were going to a restaurant with a dress code.

xanthomelana · 24/12/2025 15:58

If I’m getting dressed I’m putting comfy clothes on like joggers, I can’t sit around the house in jeans or anything. My usual rule is if it doesn’t affect me then it’s none of my business.

Moonlightfrog · 24/12/2025 15:54

I think it’s fine. We are at home for Christmas with just one guest. I will wear PJ’s until I cook lunch, the dc (older teens) are welcome to wear there’s all day if they wish. Mine will go back on as soon as our guest has gone. I don’t wear PJ’s in bed, I only wear them around the house.

BCBird · 24/12/2025 15:53

I have never understood this desire to be in your pyjamas all day.

Chiaseedling · 24/12/2025 15:52

That does seem odd esp if you have guests! Even when I’m ill I get dressed in comfortable clothes (usually no bra though).

Look at people's eyes not their genitals.

Jiski · 24/12/2025 15:49

My mum used to make us get washed and dressed before we could even open our presents. I like to open presents in pjs now and get washed and put on my new socks afterwards while my son plays. I will start prepping food in my pjs though as I need to get some things on early.

Jok77 · 24/12/2025 15:37

Each to their own. Hubby and son will be in shorts and tshirts, I'll probably wear a pair of joggers and a tshirt. We go for comfort but I know people who get dressed up too.
