To be upset about Christmas?

I have a 1.5 year old and it’s DP’s year to work, me and DD are going to my parents. I was going to get a taxi but they insisted on giving us a lift, now another family member will be passing us around 1 so they have asked her to pick us up along the way. DD goes to bed at 7 and we live 30-40 minutes away so would have to leave around 6. I feel upset by this as we will be spending majority of the day alone now, aibu to just not even bother going?

Assuming it fits with your parents can you get a taxi earlier?

That said I think a morning for your little one to enjoy his presents without being rushed out of the house sounds ideal!

I know it sounds quite mean but we are g doing presents until Boxing Day when DP will be home as DD is young so doesn’t know and we can have our own Christmas Boxing Day so the presents she would get would be when we get to my parents house

Just book the taxi to suit the times you want. Just because a lift has been offered you don’t need to accept it. Just tell your parents you want to be there for longer.

It's Christmas and your DD doesn't have to go to bed at 7, but yes if it bothers you just get a taxi instead, assuming you are unable to drive yourself?

Just say no and get a taxi. You want to spend the day there so it doesn’t suit. The can’t insist anything.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 24/12/2025 07:33

Say, “1 is a bit late for us, as we’ll have to leave at 6, so I’ll get a taxi. Thanks anyway!”

If they start to insist, insist right back.

So get a taxi instead. And your dc doesn’t have to go to bed at 7pm. Make an exception. Can DP collect you? Saves both ways taxi. It’ll sort.

Surely that’s just cutting your nose off to spite your face? Just get a taxi so you can go when you want.

Just get a taxi as planned but at a time to suit you.

can the family member do the return leg?
