To have not lied to DS about trans actor in Last Christmas?

DungOnATwig · 24/12/2025 01:10

Watching above with DD17 (lesbian) and DS11 (straight) earlier today. One scene where a female presenting (long hair + fake eyelashes) but clearly biologically male actor plays a doctor (just Dr). DS says "that......lady sounds like a man".

I said yeah it is a man love. A man who identifies as a sex they are not.

DD paused then typed a wee bit more furiously than usual for 30 secs but then was ok. She knows tbf. She's lesbian and not pan.

It was so distilled down to me at the point of his very innocent (and tentative so as not to offend question) that I am not prepared to lie to my kid about the fucking fundamentals of life and tell them that person is a woman. Fuck that.

Merry Christmas 🍷

Also FUCK THAT FILM 😭😭😭😭😭

As I say, I'm GC, I don't believe in gender woo but at the same time, I am not so bothered by the sight of a man dressed as a woman that I am bothered by seeing one dressed as a cardiologist. I think that trans people need their own spaces, so Isla Bryant and his ilk need not to be in the women's estate. However, some of the people on this thread are almost as extreme as the TRAs.

Well this is as extreme as the TRAs, so really?

It's been probably a whole day without a anti-trans post on this so I guess we got to put up some numbers. Some people have way to much time on their hands to care about other people's lives 🙄

Literal genocide. And you say you're not extreme!

spirit20 · 24/12/2025 14:51

You don't know that was a transwomen. It could easily have been a man who identifies as a man but decides he likes having long hair and eyelashes.

TableRunners · 24/12/2025 14:43

Oh dear. Did you just say "opposite sex", with regard to trans people? They won't like that.

Sex is a wibbly wobbly spectrum, did you not realise?

Some of the comments on this thread are harmful to the GC cause, because they are actually proving the TRAs' point. It's one thing to not want trans people in spaces designed for the opposite sex. It's quite another to complain about their very existence.

Ah, don't you know that this is the most significant issue affecting women, globally? More so than, say, FGM, reproductive rights, violence against women, rape, discrimination, gender based poverty? After all, how can women in Yemen achieve some (e)quality of life if we have trans people? Have you not been on the FWR board (or whatever it's now called)?

How can you measure any of those things, or address them, if you can't say what a woman is?

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 24/12/2025 14:01

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 24/12/2025 07:38

It’s not.
“I wish I could do my make up that well”
“I wish I could walk in heels like that”
“You’re so beautiful”
“You’re more of a woman than I’ll ever be”
“All I noticed was how beautiful you are”

This kind of gushing sycophancy is reserved for men, exclusively.

Edited

No it's not - with the exception of the penultimate 'quote' (and possibly the super creepy never said final one), women say these things to women. Or maybe your circle doesn't include beautiful women who can wear killer heels and have skillfully applied makeup 🤷‍♀️

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 24/12/2025 13:55

GarlicBreadStan · 24/12/2025 02:22

Because it doesn't matter. Why does it affect you how people identify? It doesn't affect trans people that you don't identify as trans.

You truthfully answered a question. Your DC were fine with your answer, so why do you need to ask if YABU @DungOnATwig ?Confused

He didn't ask a question.

TableRunners · 24/12/2025 13:54

Some of you are so naive, thinking that being a trans identifying male who demands acceptance as a woman is anything to do with surgery. They literally maintain that they are women, because inside their heads tells them they are - they are just a slightly different type of woman.

Here is a quote from today, on Reddit:

Women should not be made to use men's toilets just because they were born with a trans body. Cubicles are private, and are designed that no one has to view anyone else's genitals (with the exception of urinals in men's toilets).

People pretending that women who were born trans are somehow an invasion of privacy of women born cis are just dressing up their bigotry as something else.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 24/12/2025 13:51

PlanetJanette · 24/12/2025 10:02

So trans actors should just not be cast in movies then?

Well, there's hardly an embargo on sexist or racist actors. I think it's a shame to normalise sexism and racism but you do you.

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/12/2025 13:09

Ask?

What, you think it's appropriate for women to go up to random men and ask them if they've retained or removed their penis? Seriously?

Telling the truth is more important than not offending your daughter. Your response was perfectly respectful, imo!

You are right to explain that actor started life as a male - I like to be honest as well - but the "being someone they are not" is offensive to trans people and their loved ones. That is nót explaining the facts to your 11 year old, it is interpreting them and thus imprinting on your son. I would've said something like " he felt being a woman and decided to transition". Then wait for your 11 year old to process this information and start asking more questions.

But there's no such thing as men 'transitioning to women' as humans can't change sex.

No man can "transition" to being a woman. He can present as a woman, or pretend he's a woman, but there's no changing or trasitioning sex.

He will be a male his whole life start to end, and every day in between, not just at the start. We need to stop lying and twisting the truth to children. No wonder so many are confused, when the adults they rely on promote invalid and harmful ideologies, in some misguided pursuit on kindness. It’s really not kind to do this to your children.

Sorry, probably being dense. I’m not sure what your question is?

As soon as I read wokeness, it puts me very much in mind of Nigel Farage, for example and his followers. That’s usually enough for me to dismiss that person’s opinions and I lose any interest in their arguments.

Also, may I suggest that the world is complex and nuanced and that jumping from reading the word "wokeness" to thinking of Nigel Farage and his followers is an illogical jump.

It is also insane to think that dismissing the views of 30% of the country (even if many of them have some very odd or bad ideas) is going to lead us anywhere good.

That sort of thing led to one Scottish nurse being disciplined. And another woman being banned from all her council leisure facilities for a year.

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/12/2025 12:30

This. Can’t believe someone would miss out on plays, films, tv because they happen to have a trans actor.
Do they apply the same to all of the arts and literature and avoid anything created by anyone whose views/opinions/ideology you disagree with?
That would result in a very empty life indeed.

Or is it just trans-people they object to?

I think it depends on the film/series and the writer/director. In the series Sense8 a trans character played by a trans actor is in a ‘lesbian’ relationship, and the sex scenes are very much a male fantasy of lesbian sex, featuring strap-on dildos and lots of rapturous screaming. It’s written by the Wachowski ‘sisters’ and whilst most of the series is interesting and entertaining, there are clear TRA themes running through it. There are other trans writers & directors that don’t push a TRA agenda in their work.

I believe (and always have) that LGB rights matter, women's rights (sex based by definition) matter, and that treating people differently because of their skin colour is wrong.

I despise "wokeness" and I despise Farage.

Can you think why I believe all of the above?

What do you think I think "wokeness" means, and what do you think it means?

But if my children went along with any other harmful ideas, like racism or homophobia, then over time, as they became established adults, they have to take the full consequences of their beliefs and actions. Trans ideology is a harmful viewpoint. If my children, as say 30 year olds, supported men in women’s spaces and sports and puberty blockers etc, it would be difficult to continue a relationship, just like if they held harmful racist views.

You’re entitled to your point of view. I just don’t agree with you, which is fine.
