Should I reconfirm to let work know I won’t be at work Tom

Working tomorrow 730-4pm however DH is in hospital overnight & I won’t be able to attend work tomorrow. I did mention to the Management the situation & I will update them and I did phone work when I left (phone no one answered Management leave late) & emailed however I had no reply. Close Work Colleague who I work with said to me she would let them know tomorrow morning 730am that I did try phoning and emailing and the situation with my DH in hospital meaning I won’t be able to attend work tomorrow. Should I reconfirm again tomorrow morning I won’t be at work? It’s not a case of leaving my Work Colleague to get involved however I did phone/email them as well.

I did phone in and emailed the moment I knew but had no reply back and no one got the phone even though management are there to late & I mentioned to them during the day when my husband ended up hospital.

So you have phoned and followed the policy - all good.

Agree with the others, it sounds as though they're being a little difficult, so I'd email back saying that you tried calling but nobody picked up (screenshot the call logs too).

Sorry your DH is in hospital, it sounds very stressful.

Only 1 Deputy Manager is in today however she is stepping down after Xmas.

Screenshot your call logs showing the times you rang yesterday and today and send them in just in case one of the managers is going to be difficult.

Also look after yourself my husband was in over Christmas last year I know how hard it is.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 24/12/2025 08:42

I'd reply by email stating the times you called and that there was no answer. Just in case they ever try and argue you are contravening the policy

BeardieWeirdie · 24/12/2025 08:41

You should have put in your email the times you repeatedly called to prevent them fitting having cause to grumble or use it for disciplinary purposes.

Tried phoning this morning but no one picked up phone so emailed to let them know (they are in office 7am so tried twice just after that time around 710am). I have no direct line to any Management. Emailed me back to say that’s fine but they would have preferred a phone call as they got the email after my work start time. However I do think that as I did try contacting yesterday and this morning by phone it’s unreasonable of them to suggest I try phoning instead of emailing.

Just ring the office tmrw morning. If you can’t get through you could ring your line manager directly if you have their number?

SillyNavyTiger · 23/12/2025 23:52

It's not much effort to make a quick phone call, I would ring in the morning. It will also remove a worry from your head.

Golightly133 · 23/12/2025 23:44

Ring in the morning and cover your back, hate it when you can’t get through- sometimes emergencies crop up and family has to come first

TheatricalLife · 23/12/2025 23:41

I'd probably phone in just to cover my own back. They can't moan then!
I hope your DH is OK ❤️

Any decent workplace would understand if your DH is in hospital (and you have made multiple attempts to contact them). I hate the rush to the lowest common denominator. I couldn’t work somewhere that treated people the way some mumsnetters either treat their employees or have been sad enough to experience themselves.

FerrisWheelsandLilacs · 23/12/2025 23:39

Like PP said. At my work you have to ring your manager the morning you’re off, at least 30 mins before you’re due to start. Anything other than this would be marked as an unnoticed absence, even if you’d emailed or told a colleague.

Neverflyingagain · 23/12/2025 23:37

If your absence policy says you need to phone in, then you need to phone in. Don't rely on us to know what your work absence procedure is and end up getting a row for it.
That said, I am sorry to hear your husband is in hospital, but will you be able to go be by his bedside all day? Would you not be better off going into work and then to the hospital when you've finished? Take your mind off it?
