Paying the plumber - AIBU?

We had work done to fix a leak on Friday. Plumber we have used before. He asked we pay within 10 days as is normal (we’ve always paid promptly in the past though).

We thought, great, as we are a bit tight with coats due to Christmas and DH not paid until today. Anyway, Saturday the plumber texts and asks if we can pay any earlier - we apologise and say we can’t until today as waiting for payday. He texts again yesterday to ask again incase our circumstances have changed, we again said no (politely).

We’ve paid this morning and text to confirm which he has read and not replied.

AIBU to feel he was a CF? If you don’t want a delay in payment, then don’t give 10 days for it!

Edit - obviously the title is meant to say ‘Paying’ if someone can change it please. No idea what happened there

Last time I had a plumber in and was told the cost, I felt like I’d been pegged!!

How did you even type pegging, it’s not something autocorrect would change?

Done on purpose for a reaction.

MaeWestNeverForgets · 23/12/2025 15:46

I only checked in because of the title....where the heck is this going, I thought...ah the disappointment...

Or rimming the rector.

(I understand, of course, that this kind of joke is neither grown-up nor clever, but once I'd thought of it I had to type it or the sense of an opportunity missed would have ruined my entire Christmas.)

Bashing the Bishop haven’t heard that in ages really tickled me 🤣

bignewprinz · 23/12/2025 15:45

Have only read the title.

You are not being unreasonable to peg the plumber, but I only recommend doing it after he has finished the work. I also recommend he fasts for 24 hours prior to his visit. Less mess.

I assumed it was an alliterative euphemism. Like bashing the bishop.

Me too. I thought she might be paying the plumber in sexual favours.

Me too.

FurForksSake · 23/12/2025 15:43

We are all here to hear about the payment in kind.

Unless the plumbing work was an emergency and you have no emergency fund, the bill should have been paid immediately. The ten days is the maximum and not the standard they expect. I’d probably not rush to do work for you again. As much as it’s tight for you, it’s tight for him too and could have been waiting for that payment to buy essentials hence the reminders.

SleeplessInWherever · 23/12/2025 15:43

I’d imagine pegging a plumber is fairly unreasonable, particularly if he hasn’t asked for it.

WLINewbie · 23/12/2025 15:42

Sorry to be that person but I'm genuinely laughing with tears in my eyes at the typo 😂

TheShed7 · 23/12/2025 15:42

Tightness is not an ideal quality for that.

Apparently.

Title aside…

He shouldn’t say 10 days if he doesn’t want to wait 10 days. But I also wouldn’t get work done if I couldn’t afford to pay it when the work was completed.

This.

I’ve learned something today I wish I hadn’t, will never look at pegs again in the same light.

wizzler · 23/12/2025 15:36

Got halfway through the post and thought you must be planning to pay him in kind

Quicklyquicklyquicker · 23/12/2025 15:36

That’s given me a laugh today! Pegging the plumber 🤣🤣🤣

Makemeanonymous · 23/12/2025 15:35

@Hanhan22
If you haven't done so already report your OP to MN and ask them to change the thread title.

Poms · 23/12/2025 15:26

Pegging? I don’t really understand what you mean.

You should Google it. Ideally at work.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 23/12/2025 15:34

This is not what I thought it was about. I was expecting a 50 Shades of Grey style romance.

I'm strangely disappointed as this had the makings of a classic thread. Sigh.

MandemChickenShop · 23/12/2025 15:33

Get out of those tight coats and peg like a good 'un. Make sure you use his extra large plunger....

justpassmethemouse · 23/12/2025 15:33

I’d say YANBU. If the payment terms were within 10 days then he shouldn’t be pressuring you for faster payment.

Poms · 23/12/2025 15:32

TheRozzers · 23/12/2025 15:31

Best typo ever 😂😂😂

RealEagle · 23/12/2025 15:31

I thought the plumber wanted pegging instead of payment😂
