DH going to the gym on Christmas Day!

Wifetobe21 · 22/12/2025 22:11

For about 1.5 hours mid morning. A couple of his mates usually go and have roped him in.

He is into his fitness but surely people can give it a miss for one bloody day?!

I do parkrun most Christmas Days. It's nice to get out - Christmas can feel very claustrophobic.

Assuming we're talking about people in the corresponding religions, it would probably strike me as slightly unusual, yes.

No, as in your post you said not everyone keeps christmas.

I doubt many people even know when they all are. Especially if they don’t live in a town.

That would include me.

Will he be helping you at all with the meals, OP?

You sound an utter joy to live with can I just say.

TesChique · 23/12/2025 16:50

FestiveFruitloop · 23/12/2025 15:24

But why should it always be the woman who gets stuck in the kitchen? It's not the 1950s.

Where did I say it should always be the women stuck at home? Can you enlighten me?

OPs husband isnt duty bound to no go to the gym because actually OP might want to go out instead but she's not decided.

Not the prep/cooking, but I don’t need him to/haven’t asked.

Wow I didn’t expect so many replies! I must confess I haven’t had time to read them all.

I’ve accepted him going (need to pick my battles!), he will join us for a walk after dinner too so we will all get out as a family.

Myself and DM will be sorting all the prep/cooking, so that won’t be impacted by him nipping out.

Are you also surprised when people treat Eid, Diwali or Hanukkah as just another day?

Just make sure you get the equivalent time to yourself or with your friends, or you and your mum, at some other time in the day or on Boxing Day OP. These men won't offer it to us, so we have to give them no option. This is what equality looks like, fellas.

I get plenty of ‘me time’ in general, so no issues there.

Yay OP’s back. And look, everything’s fine because the women were going to do all the womenwork anyway. So all those saying it was fine for him to go out are proved right! Er, hang on….

Eyeshadow · 23/12/2025 15:44

Roobarbtwo · 23/12/2025 14:26

The OP is going out for 90 minutes. He's not going out all day. How is this spending time with friends over their kids?

Because he’s choosing to spend time with his friends instead of his kids.

So what if it’s ’only 90mins’.
Surely you can just see your friends when the kids in bed or the day before/after.

I do realise not everyone keeps Christmas (and I don't want to be insensitive here, I also know circumstances prevent many from doing so, but that's a different topic), but I'd be very surprised if many families with children actively choose to treat it as just another day.

Are you also surprised when people treat Eid, Diwali or Hanukkah as just another day?

FestiveFruitloop · 23/12/2025 15:24

TesChique · 23/12/2025 14:49

When i was a kid all the blokes used to go the pub before xmas dinner. Usually for longer than 90 mins!

No one batted an eyelid, in fact i remenber my mum almost insisting so he'd be out of her hair for a bit 😂

But why should it always be the woman who gets stuck in the kitchen? It's not the 1950s.

Do tell us what's on your mind.
Bingo card ready, affair, controlling, [hates] inlaws or relaxing [from the pile on of christmas].🤔

you forgot prostitution, drug dealing and I am sure there are a few more I can't remember just now

Wifetobe21 · 22/12/2025 22:27

1DD age 19 months. My parents will be here too so not just me left with DD

So what's the problem then?

SillyNavyTiger · 23/12/2025 14:56

Allseeingallknowing · 23/12/2025 14:20

Fine, if every one else can do the same. Perhaps Mum can do the same while DH gets on with cooking the dinner.

who's stopping her?

Are gyms even open on christmas day?? Confused

Yes, loads, especially the ones that aren’t manned 24/7 like the gym group and pure gyms.

my PT always used to laugh that the gyms were packed on Christmas Day but totally empty whenever there was an important football match…….. priorities, I guess!

The kid is 19 months and he's going out for 90 minutes

It's crazy isn't it - you'd think he was going out for 14 hours and would only be home for 90 minutes the way some people are carrying on!

vanillalattes · 23/12/2025 14:52

Sheepondrugs · 23/12/2025 14:50

She made a thread about it . She isn't going out to the gym on Christmas day . I suppose , im theory op could leave the dc in the house with the gp and go to the gym too.

Exactly, so she does have the opportunity. Just because she's choosing to stay in, doesn't mean her DH has to do the same.

Sheepondrugs · 23/12/2025 14:50

vanillalattes · 23/12/2025 14:22

Where does it say she won't have the same opportunity?

I think it’s fine unless you have kids who will want dad around on Xmas day

The kid is 19 months and he's going out for 90 minutes

Is it an independent gym?

The chains are shut for sure

Lots of chain gyms are open on Christmas Day.
