DH going to the gym on Christmas Day!

For about 1.5 hours mid morning. A couple of his mates usually go and have roped him in.

He is into his fitness but surely people can give it a miss for one bloody day?!

OP posts:

I am assuming you don’t go the gym, if you did then you’d understand how important rest days are.

You’d also understand that most gyms aren’t even open on Xmas day (so even the PTs etc will skip 1 day) and that’s it’s just as important for OP and the child to maintain their health and fitness too and it does not need to happen at the gym.

So your argument is invalid.

@Eyeshadow

but what if they were working Christmas Eve for example? So this would be their rest day.

You’re the one that keep tagging me but ok 🤨

Merry Christmas to you.

I have never tagged you. Not once

I’m just jealous his gym is open!

I don’t see the issue just tell him he can clear up after lunch.

I haven’t been rude.

But someone saying that missing 90mins of gym sessions is going to affect someone’s health and fitness obviously has no idea about the gym and so therefore what they’re saying is invalid.
Its not rude, its just facts. Rest days from the gym are fine and actually encouraged.

And you quoted me at least twice to say that there was only 1 child, like that should make a difference to my opinion.
I did not respond to the first one and so you then said it again obviously wanting a reaction - so I’m not sure that you can claim that I am the one being off.

Go. Away

Your posts are really off. You've been rude to me and rude to other people - what exactly are you trying to active?

Don't call people obsessed. Don't tell people their arguments are invalid.

Christ!

@Eyeshadow

maintaining your health and fitness as a parent is very important. Not good for your kids for you to get out of condition is it??

PurpleCoo · 23/12/2025 20:31

Going to the gym if it's open is a completely normal and reasonable thing to do, no different to similar traditions of going for a morning swim, doing Christmas Park Run or taking the dog for a walk. It's only for 90 minutes and OP has her parents there to help with the child and with the cooking.

How great that he cares about his health and fitness.

If her parents are staying for several nights, rather than just visiting for the day, it's even more understandable if your home is full of other people and you might just want a bit of peace and quiet from it all (not from his own child, but I would struggle with my own relatives, let alone someone else's around all the time and feeling like I have no privacy/headspace)

English isn’t my first language and so I often use plural when I shouldn’t.

I am not sure why it’s such a big deal. I am sorry if it offends you.

It doesn't offend me. Hth

You're the person that kept saying kids when it was one child. I'm not obsessed on any level

Roobarbtwo · 23/12/2025 18:35

I honestly really can't be bothered. If you think someone is a bad dad for leaving the house on Christmas day you haven't encountered some really awful ones. That's for sure

I can't be bothered with the way people talk to one another on here just for having different opinions.

Roobarbtwo · 23/12/2025 18:29

Eyeshadow · 23/12/2025 18:27

The amount of kids isn’t the issue here though is it?

Not sure why you’re so obsessed that it’s just 1 child, like you’d have a different opinion if it was 2 children.

The OP has already said that it's a gym attached to a hotel chain. I used to work in gyms and I worked Christmas and new year when I worked in pure gym

Sorry I missed that. I have to say, if my gym was open on Christmas Day I would probably go but I have grown up dcs who sit in their rooms for a large part of the day.

Wow I didn’t expect so many replies! I must confess I haven’t had time to read them all.

I’ve accepted him going (need to pick my battles!), he will join us for a walk after dinner too so we will all get out as a family.

Myself and DM will be sorting all the prep/cooking, so that won’t be impacted by him nipping out.

You can accept that he is going , and still not be too happy about it. Someone can understand the desire for alone time on a busy day , and think someone should be present for guests. It is understandable that people are dedicated to the gym , but still think that a missed session won't hurt, especially when there are other things going on that day .

Complete non-issue...you have your parents to keep you company and help with childcare if needed.

I would find it controlling if someone was to make a fuss in that situation.

I personally wouldn't find it controlling tbh. But some of the responses on this thread are completely wild. He's a bad father because he's leaving home for 90 minutes on Christmas day to go to the gym

Because he’s choosing to spend time with his friends instead of his kids.

So what if it’s ’only 90mins’.
Surely you can just see your friends when the kids in bed or the day before/after.

He has one child. 19 months as I said earlier

Yay OP’s back. And look, everything’s fine because the women were going to do all the womenwork anyway. So all those saying it was fine for him to go out are proved right! Er, hang on….

She says she hasn't asked him to help with the prep or cooking. I'm certainly not someone who thinks women should do all the cooking. The absolute opposite

I do in my house because I live alone.
