To not look after DSC with a chest infection whilst DP goes to a football match

sorrytorun · 20/12/2025 08:18

On antibiotics for pneumonia. Feeling awful. Haven’t been able to leave bed for a week.

DSC (5) is with us this weekend. DH has announced today that his 5- aside football team is playing a charity match today. He will be on the bench 🙄 he’s asked me if I can look after DSC for “3 or so hours” whilst he goes or whether he should take him with him.

i said I was feeling rotten and usually I’d be fine to look after DSC but can he take him with him today.

he said “you could watch a film with him?” I said no again and he flounced off saying he won’t be able to come off the bench now.

No idea why you are being so petty, single parents manage.

Quite. So why isn’t this single father managing?

AwBlessm · 20/12/2025 12:18

What did I just read? The women need to run around changing plans so as not to inconvenience the man (i.e. the PARENT who is responsible for the child this weekend)?

No, That's was my point, really. If I sent that message to my DH's parents, they wouldn't come round, they'd be on the phone to him to read him the riot act (and tell him to sort his s**t out) faster than it would take me to make another cup of lemsip. But then they raised DH properly in the first place, so he wouldn't actually do that anyway.
If the OP's partner is in a childish strop because he thinks she's being unreasonable, a word (or several) from someone else to tell him that he's being a twit might have the desired effect.

Lifelover16 · 20/12/2025 18:07

Husband should be looking after you and his son, not buggering off to football.

Ponderingwindow · 20/12/2025 18:03

Even if this was your own shared child, he should be letting you rest and handling all parenting responsibilities. He isn’t going to work, it is recreation.

MO0N · 20/12/2025 17:58

Here we all are discussing the issue at hand, and yet the OP now appears to have nothing to say!

Decent fathers also manage to prioritise their young kids ahead of their hobbies - so what’s your point? 🙄

JoyeuxNarwhal · 20/12/2025 14:42

I'm unclear from the op if the child also has a chest infection? If so, then it would be unfair for them to be sitting out on the touchline for 3 hours. BUT that does not mean that you with pneumonia should be the one looking after them indoors!
If the child is well then wrap them up and off they go, but good luck having a 5 year old sat spectating for that long.

Tbh even if they were your own child you'd be handing them over to someone else to look after when you've got pneumonia wouldn't you?

Has your dh always been that selfish?

Hope you're feeling better soon Flowers

CoffeeBeansGalore · 20/12/2025 14:36

@sorrytorun hope you feel better soon.
Unfortunately your "partner" is yet another selfish, useless, part time sperm donor.

No dh. Why dont you do some christmas craft with them/ take them to Christmas Market or something else Christmasy and make the most of your time together just before Christmas.

Even if the poor little sprog fancied that, OP shouldn’t be out spreading germs, and possibly passing out into a cauldron of Glühwein at the festive market!

WTFF? It’s the father who is the parent, semi-detached at best, semi-single.
OP isn’t in this picture at all except as one of the crowd looking on, essentially.

(What they are watching is yetta nother bloody twat of a father preferring to spend his limited time with his 5-year old son by leaving him in the care of someone else, who’s presently half dead with ‘flu. Everyone in the crowd looks like yer man in ‘The Scream’ by Munch)

CatsKoalasBunnies123 · 20/12/2025 14:23

Do not marry him.

Do not have children with him.

You will regret it.

When people show you who they are, believe them.

TwistedWonder · 20/12/2025 14:21

So another EOW dad who can’t even spend the limited time he gets being a parent and instead delegates childcare to his nanny with a fanny he shacked up with very quickly so he can swan off living like single bloke.

They're ten a penny on MN

If OP was a single parent, she wouldn't be looking after her step-child would she?

Skybluepinky · 20/12/2025 13:36

No idea why you are being so petty, single parents manage.

Are you the "D" H?
Petty?

  1. This child is not OPs child, it is her partner's
  2. Her partner should be spending time with his own child during the time he has custody
  3. OP is very sick.
  4. Her partner should be taking care of her, not fucking off to a football match

Yes, single parents do have to manage but OP is not single (although she may wish she was now), nor the parent of the child.

Thehandinthecookiejar · 20/12/2025 14:10

<sigh>

YANBU

MO0N · 20/12/2025 14:03

I don't think the op is married to this man, presumably she has to subordinate herself some more if she wants the 'privilege' of being his wife.

DDivaStar · 20/12/2025 08:50

Because she is very ill with Pneumonia
Because it isn't her child and therefore isn't her responsibility

HippopotamusForChristmas · 20/12/2025 08:24

Another day, another dickhead husband

This!

outerspacepotato · 20/12/2025 13:55

How dare you be incapacitated with pneumonia and not up to being the nanny for your husband's child when he wants to go to football?

You are a malfunctioning wife appliance.

Of course your husband is being a fucking asshole. You have diagnosed pneumonia and should be resting and drinking lots of fluids, not being his nannybot.

This is his custody time and he wants to dump his child onto his extremely sick wife and not spend that custody time with him. What an amazing parent. 🙄

My own child? Sure, I’d bring him in to bed with me, set him up on the iPad and then doze besides him.

My selfish, thoughtless boyfriend’s child? No

Poor child. His father happy to swan off leaving him with someone who isn’t well an doesn’t want to look after him.

myglowupera · 20/12/2025 13:50

Yanbu. Even if you was feeling amazing and well, I’d still be saying you shouldn’t look after his child for him in these circumstances.

Is he your DP or DH?! I hope you aren't married.

Whatever you do, don't have kids with this nobber. Play it forwards...you have a baby and split up (looking likely) and he's having your baby the Saturday before Christmas. What poor sod will he be dumping them on, so he can carry on with his life?!

coconutchocolatecream · 20/12/2025 13:39

My first suggestion would be that he doesn't have to go to the football at all, but if it's that important to him, he can take his child along and just watch with him from the bench (oh what fun for his kid!).

He's selfish and a less than impressive father.

MO0N · 20/12/2025 13:39

Tsk tsk OP, you are forgetting your purpose in life!
You are there to work for him for free so that he can do all his hobbies.
Can you imagine how embarrassed he would feel if he had to let the team down. They would all know that he lacks the ability to dominate and control a woman such that she feels obligated to care for his child even though she is extremely ill herself.
How can you not realise that saving face for him is much more important than you and your well-being!?
