To end 1 month relationship over this tiny thing

or am I being dramatic?

Please be honest if im overreacting. Me and my boyfriend have been together officially for 6 weeks, it's going really well. Yesterday we went out for dinner and I drove us back to mine after. On the way back, he rolled down the window and threw his empty drink can out of my car. As soon as he rolled down the window i knew that was what he was going to and asked / begged him not to as I'm the one who's car it is and I don't want someone posting my car all over the local facebook group saying rubbish is being thrown out of it.

Also it gave me the ick. I find it a bit grim that he couldn't wait 10 mins till we got to my house to throw his rubbish away.

Okey doke. Try harder.

(Thread number 3,697 designed to trigger peak outrage.)

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 19/12/2025 19:45

It’s up at the top of my top ten most disgusting things to do. Littering 😡. It makes me shudder. I’d have pulled the car to a breaking stop and kicked his arse out. Ta ra to him.

UncannyFanny · 19/12/2025 19:44

I guess it’s not so much the actual act itself, but what it says about him as a person that he’d behave that way. Not entirely sure I’d end a relationship over this as a single incident but I’d certainly be having serious thoughts about what it says about who he is and letting him know that I found it off putting.

Some of us don't want to live in a sh1thole. Raise your standards.

1 can does not a shithole make. Seems incredibly minor to end a decent relationship over in this dating climate.

Whatsthatsheila · 19/12/2025 19:43

🚮

honestly these threads would be much more compact if there was just a bin react emoji.

NotMyKidsThough · 19/12/2025 19:43

Where to even start..... you wnet out for dinner and like a sugared-up ten year old he 'needed' a can of drink on the way home. You knew he was going to act like a spoiled attention-seeking yob. You asked him not to and he did it anyway.

This is a test. It's "How Far Can I Go"? If I were you, I'd tell him "Go a long way away, starting now." This is about him ignoring your boundaries. The test will be tougher next time. And there will be a next time.

Zanatdy · 19/12/2025 19:42

You’re not being unreasonable and i’d also get the ick and would be dumping him.

Elsvieta · 19/12/2025 19:41

Bloody hell, he'd have been out of my car ten seconds after the can. Let him walk home. (He certainly wouldn't be setting foot in my home ever again). Filthy yob.

MrsVBS · 19/12/2025 19:40

Would be a deal breaker for me, absolutely no excuse.

deeahgwitch · 19/12/2025 19:39

CasperGutman · 19/12/2025 17:11

I'd end it over that, no question. Someone who would do this just doesn't have the level of consideration for others and for society that I'd be looking for in a partner.

👍👏🏻

Picklelily99 · 19/12/2025 19:38

Litter louts are the scum of the earth!!! Did he think he was being big and clever? He wasn't!

MatriarchCaz · 19/12/2025 19:37

Bushmillsbabe · 19/12/2025 17:13

Yep, he would be gone. You asked him not to do a disrespectful thing, and he still did it, so double disrespectful.

This - get rid.

justpassmethemouse · 19/12/2025 19:21

Wow these responses are so dramatic 🤣

How did you beg him during an incident that must have only taken a few seconds?

You’re not obligated to stay in a relationship for any reason, but I’d think twice about the “massive red flag” that other posters are describing. It’s an amber flag at best.

Some of us don't want to live in a sh1thole. Raise your standards.

He's an utter scumbag. The verges are full of rubbish due to twats like him. Bin him and tell him why.

PInkyStarfish · 19/12/2025 19:27

I would have pulled over and asked him to get out.

Don’t waste your time on this absolute cretin.

Iamnotalemming · 19/12/2025 19:24

Into the bin he goes! Because you know how to dispose of things you dont need or want anymore.

Charlize43 · 19/12/2025 19:20

Get rid. There's no future in fly tipping fines.

JoyeuxNarwhal · 19/12/2025 19:15

I'd have stopped the car and told him to get out to pick it up. Then driven off.

Mind you, you shouldn't dump trash at the side of the road Wink

Beeloux · 19/12/2025 19:13

Chuck the skip rat straight in the bin where the can should be.

Imagine years to come being stuck with this slob. He’d make your home a pigsty.

SqB · 19/12/2025 19:09

Definitely easier to end after 6 weeks than 6 years! I wouldn’t let this drag on… he’s meant to be on his very best behaviour still. Really grim and childish.

Unforgettablefire · 19/12/2025 19:08

Get rid. He’s a selfish slob and now you’ve seen the first of shitty behaviour. I’d have drop kicked him out the car what an arsehole.

notacooldad · 19/12/2025 19:06

Thats not a small thi g yo be upset about though.
I'd let him go. Even little kids know not to do that.

sidebirds · 19/12/2025 19:04

Nearly50omg · 19/12/2025 17:11

I’d have stopped the car and told him to get out and pick that can up and then driven off when he got out and left him 🤬

⬆️ Correct response. Bin this revolting low-toner 🤢

Pricelessadvice · 19/12/2025 19:04

Yuk. Littering is abhorrent.
I’d have dumped him on the spot.
