To end 1 month relationship over this tiny thing

or am I being dramatic?

Please be honest if im overreacting. Me and my boyfriend have been together officially for 6 weeks, it's going really well. Yesterday we went out for dinner and I drove us back to mine after. On the way back, he rolled down the window and threw his empty drink can out of my car. As soon as he rolled down the window i knew that was what he was going to and asked / begged him not to as I'm the one who's car it is and I don't want someone posting my car all over the local facebook group saying rubbish is being thrown out of it.

Also it gave me the ick. I find it a bit grim that he couldn't wait 10 mins till we got to my house to throw his rubbish away.

I’d have kicked him out the car there and then. Revolting 🤮

Fionasapples · 21/12/2025 11:59

Bye bye to him!

Ivy888 · 21/12/2025 11:56

You asked him not to.
You even write you begged him. To me this suggests you didn’t just ask him once, but repeatedly.
He still threw the can.

What happened after he tossed the can?

I would have stopped the car and told him to get out and pick it up.
It’s not just about tossing the can. It’s about the MASSiVE level of disrespect towards you. You asked him to not do something. You gave him a reason (which in all honesty should not be necessary because every Tom, Dick and Harry knows tossing a can =litter= an offence. By still doing it he totally disrespected you.
Please don’t say you went home and had sex with this twat after what happened.

wombat1a · 21/12/2025 11:48

Get rid, disgusting pig.

amigafan2003 · 21/12/2025 11:46

I couldn't be friends with anyone that litters, let alone date them.

Tryingnottobeamouse · 21/12/2025 11:36

That's not a tiny thing at all. That's appalling, 100% end things based on this. I'd have ended it just with him doing it, but the fact that you asked him not to and he still did. Awful.

viques · 21/12/2025 11:35

Dump him. Imagine if you stayed with him, and in ten years time he throws his rubbish and you have to explain to your kids that littering is wrong “But Daddy throws his rubbish in the street” . Or he is doing schoolpick up and chucks his coke can on the floor in front of the other parents and teachers, or he is stopped by an enforcement officer while out with the family and fined on the spot.

It’s high time littering and dumping and flytipping were seen as anti social as spitting, speeding and drink driving. It puts up the cost of keeping streets and neighbourhoods clean and safe for everyone, shows contempt for the environment and wildlife, and shows a level of selfishness and self importance that probably leaks into other areas of life.

Sorry for the rant! I will carefully climb down from my high horse now.

Meteorite87 · 21/12/2025 11:33

Only a month in? End it.

It's not only what he did but that he ignored your request beforehand not to.

Satsuma55 · 21/12/2025 11:33

Absolutely end it. Who does that? I don't know anyone that would do that. Appalling.

mbonfield · 21/12/2025 11:31

Best that you found out early on. Good luck with the next one OP

viques · 21/12/2025 11:24

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 19/12/2025 17:10

Yep - put him in the bin

🤮🤮🤮

Ho Ho HO!

Xkk · 21/12/2025 11:08

I would have pulled over, pick up the can and told him to get out of my car. No arguments. Bye.

Nigglenaggle · 21/12/2025 11:06

Huge red flag. What a git. Thank goodness you found out early. Easy enough to move on at this stage. Get rid.

JackTheStRipper · 21/12/2025 10:56

Ew. I would absolutely end it over that! Huge red flags being flown in terms of his lack of respect for you, your property and the environment.

absolute gutter behaviour.

PloddingAlong21 · 21/12/2025 10:51

Oh my god even kids don’t behave like this. Why should he expect other people to pick his rubbish up? Why does he want to live in an area which is a dump?

Speaks volumes to how he will treat his home honestly tbh. Gross.

Carodebalo · 21/12/2025 10:51

You said it yourself: no morals. Throw him out OP!

Fireflybaby · 21/12/2025 10:43

Have you confronted him? What did he say?
Awful behaviour, not cool.
It would definitely give me the ick too...

LaDamaDeElche · 21/12/2025 10:42

That’s such a weird thing for an adult to do. Was he drunk?

Laurmolonlabe · 21/12/2025 10:38

Unless you are really keen, and he is perfect in every other way I'd kick him to the kerb. It's not so much the litter lout thing (although, ugh) but you specifically asked him not to do it and he did it anyway- couple of years down the line you could be begging him not to hit you again, rather than not to litter.

MuminMama · 21/12/2025 10:36

He’s a dick

Icks are there for good reason, run for the hills before you're in too deep!

bumblingbovine49 · 21/12/2025 07:39

I absolutely would dump him, nor for throwing the can in and of itself ( though that does show something about him) but for not listening to my request that he not do this.

Doing what you asked in that instance would have cost him absolutely nothing and wpuld cause him practically no inconvenience yet he openly ignored your request.

What dies that say about how much he respects and values your opinion and about how much he wants to.please you or make you happy?

This is not a nice man and he is clearly showing you that .

Muffinmam · 21/12/2025 07:04

Get rid of him.

This is shocking to me.

If you keep him he will do this behaviour in your home.

Abab11 · 21/12/2025 04:20

If he can’t see what’s wrong with that I’d end the relationship. Disgusting behaviour and shows complete lack of respect! I’d be certain things will only get worse!

ThatJadeLion · 21/12/2025 04:16

Pushing a "small' boundary would be a red flag for me. It was your car, you asked him not to.
