To end 1 month relationship over this tiny thing

or am I being dramatic?

Please be honest if im overreacting. Me and my boyfriend have been together officially for 6 weeks, it's going really well. Yesterday we went out for dinner and I drove us back to mine after. On the way back, he rolled down the window and threw his empty drink can out of my car. As soon as he rolled down the window i knew that was what he was going to and asked / begged him not to as I'm the one who's car it is and I don't want someone posting my car all over the local facebook group saying rubbish is being thrown out of it.

Also it gave me the ick. I find it a bit grim that he couldn't wait 10 mins till we got to my house to throw his rubbish away.

You call it a tiny thing - is that what you think too? That throwing rubbish out of car windows is no big deal?

This.
Thats a really huge thing.
He's scum.

4forksache · 24/12/2025 00:06

That’s not a tiny thing. Instant finish territory.

pineapplesundae · 24/12/2025 00:02

He’s probably got some other bad habits you don’t know about yet. Dump him!

SoulSearchBeHonest · 22/12/2025 08:23

MissMay95 · 19/12/2025 17:08

Massive red flag IMO

I would end the relationship over this personally!

Me too.

What a that. The countryside is beautiful and twats like this spoil it. 💯 dump.

Ooodelally · 22/12/2025 07:45

What a tramp. Absolutely bin him off immediately (pun intended)

JG24 · 22/12/2025 07:40

Yep I started dating someone who did this with a mars bar wrapper and that was the end for me
It's awful

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 22/12/2025 07:38

I just had a thought, when ‘men’ do these things, they’re literally doing you a favour as showing you who they are early on. Don’t doubt yourself for a second.

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 22/12/2025 07:36

bicyclecrash · 19/12/2025 17:14

What gets me is that he didn't even need to throw the rubbish immediately. It seemed like he just done it for the thrill of it. No morals

no one needs to do this ever, and he clearly doesn’t care about the environment. Real ick!

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 22/12/2025 07:34

Men like this are misogynists, that’s a sign he won’t listen to you and will find your requests amusing and he’ll know best. I’d end that too. It’s the tip of the iceberg. Checkout the burned haystack method, helps with these kind of signs.

MungoforPresident · 22/12/2025 02:42

I would end it as well. He's a total moron to do that. Then there's the big issue of his disrespect for what you asked him to do. I would ditch this idiot asap.

LemograssLollipop · 22/12/2025 02:38

I can understand why you are wondering whether to get rid for this one thing especially if you think things are going great otherwise. It's a red flag certainly. Is there anything else he does that makes you uncomfortable? If you consider all together do you still want to continue the relationship?

You've started a thread about it so if it's validation for your decision to end it, you have that in spades.

Don't put up with it, you are worth more.

Nearly50omg · 19/12/2025 17:11

I’d have stopped the car and told him to get out and pick that can up and then driven off when he got out and left him 🤬

This!!!!!

HoppingPavlova · 22/12/2025 01:59

I couldn’t be with someone that did that. Even if my (adult) kids did it, I’d stop the car and make them go pick it up.

Stressedoutmummyof3 · 22/12/2025 01:56

I'm in a minority but I wouldn't dump him for littering. I would dump him for having no regard for my feelings and just doing something stupid anyway..

GoldsolesLugs · 22/12/2025 01:47

I think it's a good indication that you will have more major values conflicts down the road. Another vote for get rid.

JHound · 22/12/2025 01:35

AgeingGreycefully · 21/12/2025 15:18

As it’s early days for the relationship I think you need to explain that what he did really shocked you and gave you the ick. It was not just the littering, but the ignoring you. Just say if he does anything like that ever again you won’t be able to see him anymore. Being really calm and matter of fact about it should make him realise that you’re totally serious.

What’s the point of this? He has shown her who he is.

Homepizza · 21/12/2025 21:17

It’s not tiny it indicates selfishness, a lack of respect, no regard for others. FWIW I avoided a 2nd date with someone for throwing a half finished drink onto the railway tracks. I couldn’t say why at the time. Just that lack of care for others really bothered me.

thelongwayhome · 21/12/2025 20:56

Some may call me dramatic but from experience, regardless of what it was, you begged him not to do something that may cause harm to you, and to others, and he ignored it. Down the line, it won’t be throwing litter it will be something else, something directly harmful to your person, and he will ignore your pleas to stop what he is doing or about to do. Run.

mummydoorgirl · 21/12/2025 20:48

This has shown you who he is. Dump move on. Don’t be persuaded by him, if his standards are this low you’ll have worse to come.

SheThinksShesAllThat · 21/12/2025 20:35

What an arse hole!!!!! No respect!

GET RID he sounds a right chav.

He’ll be fly tipping next!

GirlWithTheRedScarf · 21/12/2025 18:52

You deserve better. The world deserves better. He could do better, but chose not to.

hypnovic · 21/12/2025 18:21

Your core values don't align..and he sounds a dick so move on

Friendlygingercat · 21/12/2025 18:02

If a guy behaves like this in the early stage of the relationship when he is supposed to be making an effort to impress you how will it be later on? Imagine setting up home with a lazy thoughtless man child who leaves everything at his finger ends and drops his stuff on the floor - assuming that you are there to pick up after him! Massive red flag and opportunty to dodge a bullet.

I remember a man being aggressive to me in a book shop because I didnt move out of the way quickly enough. His female companion said he was being rude. I remarked to her that if he thought is acceptable to speak so disrespectfully to a stranger how was he going to treat her if she studk with him!

AzureFinch · 21/12/2025 17:52

What does he do for work, fly tipping? I would dump 100% so disrespectful and minging

Adhdmomoftwo · 21/12/2025 17:27

I had a date like this once where he threw his can out the car window in a Tesco car park. I was so shocked and then massively shamed him for it! Think that was the last time he ever did! Now 11 years and 2 kids later he tuts at the rubbish on the streets and tells people off if they do it 😊 it did give me the ick at the time and it would have been a dealbreaker…same as spitting on the floor. Yuk!
