Those prisoners starving themselves, what the hell is going on in this crazy world!!!!

Pro Palestine activists are on a hunger strike, I really hope you get the result you want, the people of Gaza remember you seven kids who died for…… oh for them! 😂

I watched an interesting interview months ago now a young guy who was born in Israel then his father ended up being one of the head chiefs ( killers) in Hamas he know lives back in Israel after escaping…. His wise words were…. ‘ you lot in the west have no idea what is going on, with your protests and flags, stop trying to get involved in something we can and won’t be able to change’
This comes from a person on both sides who stayed very humble but very blunt.

Stop your silly little hunger strike, go and enjoy time with your family and friends you are lucky enough to be able to do that.

I take back my last comment and the one above. Isn't Kier Starmer supporting Israel and selling weapons. I can understand their position. I was a little too hasty with my judgement.

Still isn't going to make any difference to government policy.

I would imagine that in some ways, the hunger strike makes it harder to change direction because now the government needs to avoid the appearance of being swayed by a hunger strike.

Oh yeah, happens quite a bit. Which is one reason why it can't become an avenue for special treatment.

I genuinely didn't realise. Others that hunger strike each year ( around 200) obviously don't get the same attention and fawning over as the Palestine action lot.

SoulSearchBeHonest · 21/12/2025 23:24

Apparently there on average over 200 hunger strikes per year! I didn't realise there were that many.

Prisons minister today:

"I'm very clear, I don't treat any prisoners differently from any other, and that is why I will not be meeting any prisoners ".

They have demanded to meet. I guess if he met these hunger strikers, then any prisoners that wanted attention would do the same. They chose not to eat. I wouldn't want any to die. They need to stand trial for the charges against them, just like any remand prisoners and let the court of law hear evidence and then decide if innocent or guilty of charges.

The 'hunger strikers: are doing so in the hope that they will be released on bail not remanded. Their 'hunger strike' has nothing to do with what they are accused of, which involved the beating and breaking of a policewoman's back.

What impact do these fools think they are going to do. Why don't they do that in Israel where the shit is happening, they won't do that will they.

Exactly.

I keep saying it but it’s a case of fuck around and find out. They committed a crime, and thought the justice system wouldn’t be delayed when it came to them. They’re now finding out that mummy and daddy’s money can’t save them from the consequences of breaking into a military base and damaging military planes.

Dozens of protesters carrying Palestinian flags are seen in Liverpool. At the front, several people hold a large banner which has the words 'Support the hunger strikers' painted on it

Palestine Action: Two protesters awaiting trial end hunger strike

Five more people awaiting trial over alleged offences are said to be continuing to refuse food.

I just think it’s a bit silly really.

They’re not doing it because of what’s happening in Gaza. They’re doing it because they don’t like that they’ve been remanded in custody after being accused of committing crimes.

Exactly.

Surely deciding to go on a huger strike and suffering from anorexia is not the same?

It’s not. At all.

Malvasylvestris · 19/12/2025 15:45

The increasingly hysterical nature of those vilifying the hunger strikers is becoming more apparent, as they resort to Islamophobia and trying to discredit Jews who don't agree with them and trying to ban tik tok as well as asserting they are not doing a proper hunger strike.

I just think it’s a bit silly really.

I don’t need to create any fictional characters, because there are plenty of PP saying that the hunger strikers should just eat. See the thread title - it is not that simple. Anorexia is a serious illness with a high mortality rate, but many non-medical people see it as choosing not to eat. Research into IRA hunger strikers has shown that women hunger strikers were left with lifelong eating disorders.

Surely deciding to go on a huger strike and suffering from anorexia is not the same?

I don’t agree with these people, their tactics, or their demands. At the same time I don’t want them to starve to death. They are very young, some of them just 20. At that age it is quite common to get involved in crazy stuff for a cause you passionately believe in, and in ten years or so their views might be very different - if they live.

They should be taken to hospital, restored to health, then we deal with the charges.
My simple point is that it is quite possible to disagree with someone yet not want them to starve to death, even if they are inflicting the starvation on themselves.

They have the same right to medical care as anyone else on remand, but if they don't want to eat, what can be done? They can't be force fed.

Are Muslims on Muslim majority countries protesting? No.
Are Muslim protesters in Muslim countries having weekly hate matches? No.
If the concept of the "ummah" so great, why are Deash, al Quaeda and others not doing anything, other than killing civilised westerners in Western counties?

Hi Suella! Yes, millions of Muslims in countries such as Indonesia, Yemen, Bangladesh etc as well as all civilised countries around the world have been protesting. Unfortunately their puppet leaders (like ours) do not represent them whilst some countries suppress dissent eg in Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

I laughed at your 'civilised Westerners' (as opposed to the barbaric brown savages, I expect).

As Gandhi once said when asked what he thought about Western civilization, he thought it would be a good idea!

It is indeed common at the age of 20 to be very passionate in your beliefs. It is also quite common to be finding out the limits of your power. I think they are likely to find out both the limits of both their physical bodies and of their influence on political bodies by going without food. One hopes they will not die but it’s mighty hard to stand between an adult and self endangering behaviour.

It never fails to amaze me how unspeakably horrible some of the things some people on mumsnet post are.
It seems that the chance to be anonymous allows people to just say anything at all, including wishing death on people, defending people being detained without trial for over a year, laughing at people’s efforts and mocking the likes of Bobby Sands.
Just wow really

Absolutely @Thegreyhound the calls of these Palestine supporters are atrocious “globilise the intifada” “river to the sea” and other such calls to killing and violence are appalling!

I wonder what those of you advocating for bail would do if they got it and one of them broke another person's spine with a hammer.

They’d probably again blame the person whose spine they broke for being there. It’s clear that these idiots see themselves as always the victims!

DonicaLewinsky · 19/12/2025 17:50

Well, they clearly meet the 'good reason' limb of that test.

The delays in the criminal justice system are very bad indeed cheers Tories but they're also something we are stuck with even if we throw all resources at fixing it, starting tomorrow. The damage will take time to repair. This means that meanwhile, we have to make some hard decisions about what to do with people accused of violent behaviour who haven't yet been convicted. And Palestine Action are dangerous, so they need to stay in.

None of this is a good thing. It would obviously been better if they'd been convicted by now.

DangleDonkey · 19/12/2025 17:47

Staringintothevoid616 · 18/12/2025 23:25

Why? This is what happens to people determined as potentially dangerous or flight risks.

if someone is accused of say murder shall we let them walk the streets until they are found guilty

There's meant to be a 6 month limit really, and any more than that should be for good reason and also a reasonable time limit. It's mad in a western democracy that anyone should be held on remand for 16 months. It's not good for anyone if the justice system/ police/ prison service can act with impunity.

HoneyParsnipSoup · 19/12/2025 15:50

They’re not ‘giving up their lives for their cause’. 2 have ended the strike, the others have demanded medical attention if they felt they needed it. Defeats the whole point of ‘giving up their lives’
