Why do men hate women so much?

growingsideway · 18/12/2025 17:18

I’m on the larger side, a size 18. Walking back from work with my headphones in and on my phone and a guy leans out of his car window (passenger side) in slow moving traffic, barks at me like a dog and calls me a fat bitch. Him and his mates in the car then crack up at it and find themselves absolutely hilarious as they’re crawling along next to me.

I know it’s silly to be so upset by it because it’s such a silly thing for them to do, but they took me by surprise and gave me a fright and I just don’t get it. Why are men like this?

Every 3 seconds a domestic abuse incident is reported to police
How is that a minority?

1 in 4 women will be raped or assaulted by a man in their lifetime
How is that a minority?

Women change their behaviour because they fear male violence
How is that a minority?

79800 women across England and Wales are raped or sexually assaulted every year
5 in 6 women who are raped don’t report it to the police
How is that a minority?

94% of rape survivors are women

9 in 10 girls in schools, say sexist name-calling and being sent unwanted images of a sexual nature happens to them or their peers.
How is that a minority?

Literally every single thing you've said there is terrible. But it doesnt back up your theory that its most (or indeed all!) men doing these horrible things. Half the people on the planet are male. The fact that it happens all the time does not mean that most of those half the people are doing it.

BreakfastClubBlues · 19/12/2025 11:01

That is NOT to suggest we dont have a problem with VAWAG. We obviously do. But its by a minority of men.

It would be lovely if that were true. But sadly the numbers are far too high for it to be so.

I get why it makes you feel better to believe it though.

WaldoPablo · 19/12/2025 10:50

So sorry OP. A couple of weeks ago I was standing on a station platform waiting for my train and holding an unopened M&S snack pot in my hand. Out of nowhere a man (in his 20s) came up really close to me and started oinking at me really nastily and then laughing. It was shocking and upsetting. Am I not allowed to be holding something to eat for my journey?! It bothered me a lot more than i thought it would. So sorry this happened to you. 💐

“Two thousand women lives were cut short by violent, controlling, angry, sadistic, sick and/or predatory men.

"one killed in the UK, on average, every three days.”

Men as a sex class are a problem for women.

Actually plenty of people are saying all men are awful. In fact the title of the thread is why do men hate women. And every poster who has said its not the case that all men are awful have been jumped on by the man haters. I 100% agree that there is a huge disparity between the harm caused by men and that by women. But its absolutely true that MOST men are not awful and also plenty of women are awful too. And I have personally experienced both horrible men and horrible women. As well as great versions of both. The males in my life are good people.
And actually if you grouped any other group of people in the same way because a minority of them.were bad and implied tgat meant they wer ALL bad you'd rightly be called out on your prejudice.

You haven’t grasped my point, what I am saying is there are women who have good relationships with the men in their lives who have no idea what these individual men are actually like because they are never around to see the full picture. It’s that aspect of male culture I don’t think women have to come terms with.

Nobody is saying all men are awful but I am saying that some women have no idea what their men are like outside the home with their mates or how they interact with the world when their women aren’t there. I have worked in male dominated environments and the most upsetting male behaviour to me was always when they disrespected their wives. I seriously never wanted to know what these poor women did or didn’t do in bed and when. Our society is set up in a way that a man’s domestic life can be very separated from the rest of his world.

Remember ladies we can lose the weight if we want to but these men who shout abuse about our weight will always be twisted ugly souls . Said it to one man who sneered at my weight , “ I can lose the weight but you will always be short and ugly . “ He didn’t like that especially as his mates burst out laughing.

I think it’s more simple than that, it’s because they physically can.

Yep. Same as why dogs lick their genitals. Because they can.

My theory is that men have a deep, subconscious insecurity due to the fact that women give birth and they can never 100% guarantee that any baby belongs to them. This insecurity over the past thousand years is what has caused them to repress, subjugate and dominate women as a way of attempting to assert control over something they can’t 100% control.

Another all men are shit thread zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I do not know any man who hates women
I have male family members
Male mates
Male colleagues

The stats speak for themselves about men as a sex class.

Every 3 seconds a domestic abuse incident is reported to police

93% of defendants in domestic abuse cases are male

62% of women reported fear of public spaces due to men as a sex class

1 in 4 women will be raped or assaulted by a man in their lifetime

Women change their behaviour because they fear male violence

Women will take taxi’s home even if they would prefer to walk due to safety concerns about men as a sex class.

Women are advised not to walk home with earphones in to keep themselves alert to the threat of male violence

Women will hold their keys between their fingers as a weapon because they fear men as a sex class

Women cross the road if they sense a male is walking behind them at night.

Women are often subjected to being filmed in toilets and upskirted by men as a sex class and this is a growing problem.

Approx. 3 women per week die by suicide as a result of domestic abuse

98% arrested for sexual assault are male

79800 women across England and Wales are raped or sexually assaulted every year

94% of rape survivors are women

5 in 6 women who are raped don’t report it to the police

9 in 10 girls in schools, say sexist name-calling and being sent unwanted images of a sexual nature happens to them or their peers.

MEN AS A SEX CLASS POSE A DANGER TO WOMEN .

And for all those implying all men are awful and all women are not that's not my experience AT ALL. I have obviously had abuse from men. As we all have. But I have 2 sons who are lovely kids. Easily as kind if not more so than the girls in their class. I have a husband who is a good man and has more than once actively defended women from little shits on the bus who were hurling abuse and I was raised by an amazing man, alone with my sister after our alcoholic mum walked out and abandoned us and him when we were ages 7 and 3. So yeah my experience of men is absolutely NOT all bad at all but my experience of women (from my mother at least) isn't all roses and kittens either

Trouble is there aren't too many men who do get involved with parenting but thats no excuse.

However, me and my brother were bought up by our mum, no male influences at all, he wouldn't dream of shouting abuse at a woman, our mum drummed into us the importance of respect and manners.

Men who do shout abuse are usually inadequate & of low intelligence.

I'm pleased the Govt is now going to introduce anti misogyny classes into schools, we do need to counter the Andrew Tates of this world.

A pity other parties are poo hooing this idea.

"Not all men" - but always a man!

I feel you, OP - and it's getting worse. The world is a giant misogynist.

Maybe not around you but stick them in a car of other men, make them relatively anonymous and I bet they would.

First of all, I'm sorry for what happened to you. Some people are pricks, and you're right to a degree; it's a pack mentality. He would probably have been drooling at you rather than barking if he were alone.

We all have a moral compass inside of us. For some, it's really weak and can easily be pulled south by that pack mentality, and others hold firm and are genuinely lovely people. Don't let one prick bring you down.

All I have to say is Gisele Pelicot. Fathers, grandfathers, husbands, firefighters, journalists, sports coach, soldiers….

This was absolutely horrible, but no, it didn't surprise of shock me, sadly. My F was a seemingly respectable man, and I'm sure the other men involved would have been ‘pilars’ of the community too.

Other men I know who were abusive included my DM’s uncle, who sexually abused her when she moved in with him and her aunt after her parents died when she was 10. My DSis’ abusive exH (her second DH is lovely to balance that), I didn't realise just how bad it had been until after they split up. (I supported her through her divorce.

The second H of a good friend, who sexually abused her teenage DD. Rather than supporting her, her family empathised with him! Her pastor, who I had thought of as a decent man, told her it was her fault for not being a ‘good enough wife’. He also told her not to go to the police so as not to bring ‘shame on the church’. (She ignored him thankfully.)

So I wasn't shocked at all about Gisele Pelicot. Angry about yet another vile abuser, obviously. As well as feeling awful for her and her DD, but how brave they are nevertheless.

But it didn't change my view of men. Whilst I still do trust my DH and 2 BILs, I'm still wary by default.

Nah, I was heckled by women in car and called fat. I’m not fat. Some people are just bullies. Physical advantage makes men more bold about it but women can be just as bad. They just do it different ways.

Are you suggesting that shouting abuse (and sexual comments, including to teen children in school uniform) is an observed pattern of female behaviour? Do you have any evidence that this happens regularly? So if you asked a group of women, you think most would agree that they have been abused by women in cars as often as by men?
Because when we decide whether one group is 'just as bad' as another, we need to look at patterns, not isolated exceptions.

That’s really horrible and I’m sorry that happened to you 😔 I wouldn’t say it’s all men. My family is female dominated and the men in my family would do everything to protect us. I’m a size 16 and my partner lovesssss my shape and size. So it’s definitely not all men but Insecure pig men who probably have nothing better to do and never even touched a woman xx

The biggest regret of my life is getting involved with a man who worked as a policeman.

I can believe it. This particular POS wasn't a BF, he was a beat copper back in the day when they still walked around in pairs. I was a teenager and he assaulted me. Hi s partner had enough grace to look embarrassed.

TheaBrandt1 · 19/12/2025 08:30

Sorry but mums of teen boys can be absolutely deluded. Dd met one when waitressing at a party she was twittering on that she bet all the girls loved her son Jack etc. Err no he’s a misogynistic twat who pesters girls for nudes. Dd was too polite to say so but it was the truth.
