Why do men hate women so much?

I’m on the larger side, a size 18. Walking back from work with my headphones in and on my phone and a guy leans out of his car window (passenger side) in slow moving traffic, barks at me like a dog and calls me a fat bitch. Him and his mates in the car then crack up at it and find themselves absolutely hilarious as they’re crawling along next to me.

I know it’s silly to be so upset by it because it’s such a silly thing for them to do, but they took me by surprise and gave me a fright and I just don’t get it. Why are men like this?

Many men only love other men. They want to impress them, make them laugh, fit in. It’s very sad really. They are just little sheep. It wasn’t about you OP, it was about a little boy trying to impress his friends. They are beneath you.

Generally, I think they hate women because we don't need them anymore. Especially those of us who don't want children.

They’ve always behaved like this

I always think there is a certain type of man who is just utterly infuriated that the world isn’t like it was 80 years ago. When men were ‘protectors and providers’ and worshipped at home, that was all that was expected of them. Marital rape wasn’t a thing. Domestic violence wasn’t talked about. They like the thought of that sort of power.

The same men doing the same things except it’s not socially acceptable with women any more….except for the women on this thread saying not all men...

Jesus. So its ok to minimise my experience of a woman driving like a nutter, almost hitting me and the. Getting out the car and shouting abuse in my face because she was a woman and so must have had a good reason? Nice.

Something specific in her life. Nothing to do with you-and for you of course the consequences were the same, and horrible. But there is something in men that makes them single out women as targets. Any woman. I suspect your attacker would have been equally vile to you if you had been a man.

Just to say, this does not happen in other countries

It is very particular to the UK

You think men in other countries don't harass and insult random women?!

Kimura · 18/12/2025 19:31

TheIceBear · 18/12/2025 18:57

Horrific behaviour probably to make them feel good about themselves. A size 18 is probably average size these days. They do this type of thing to make themselves feel powerful but they probably have extremely fragile egos under it all. And let’s be honest any self respecting woman wouldn’t touch off a man who behaves like this..

There's definitely a classic cowardice/bullying element to it. These idiots will just as often shout things gay-presenting men, younger lads, alternative looking men etc because they know there's little to no risk/comeback.

They'll shout at a woman/gay couple from a moving car, but they're not walking up to a table of rugby lads and behaving that way.

Some men are totally inadequate at life and resent women doing life better . A lot of women prefer to be single than settle and we earn our own money . Men aren’t needed anymore .

The majority of victims of violence are men.

AND IT IS MEN ATTACKING THESE MEN!

🙄

ClaredeBear · 18/12/2025 19:27

I am so sorry this happened to you. Some men grow up with terrible role models, then flock together and never grow up. I absolutely promise you that my husband and his friends would never in a million years do this and if he found out the had, he would drop them immediately. I know this won’t help the way you’re feeling right now and I’m sorry about that. It’s the thing isn’t it…it’s not all men, but it’s always men.

Nobody’s minimising it. What we’re saying is she likely didn’t do it for fun, like men seem to.

I used to work in a pub and I’d see lots of those lovely, respectful husbands and fathers whose lovely wives, mothers and daughters would put them in the ‘not all men’ group.
If only they saw them in male company when the weren’t there.

If you want empathy for your experience with an unpleasant woman, then perhaps start your own thread about it? This is the OPs thread about her experience with men and her trying to make sense of this behaviour. Because she is feeling bad about HERSELF because of what men have done to her. Women are trying to support her to understand that this is a pattern of male behaviour and not personal.
By bringing your experience with a woman into it, you are minimising what happened to the OP and interrupting her getting support by diverting attention to yourself and to 'bad women'.

I’ve never been abused or hated by males. Perhaps it’s subjective or who you allow into your life. . 🤷‍♀️

What a male apologist you are!

I don’t think it’s gender specific there’s vile women as well as men

thinking back on my 50+ years on earth, I've had males cat call me when I was slim and pretty, scream fatass out car windows when I gained a little weight, called ugly etc etc

But NEVER has a girl or woman screamed an obscene or insulting comment at me as I was living my life in the world. Funny isn't it.

Yes some women are vile but as a rule they don't engage in this belittling behavior.

CurlewKate · 18/12/2025 19:21

I’ve often asked on here for examples of the famous Mumsnet hatred of men. It almost always comes down to disagreeing with men or refusing to enable men. There is nothing some women dislike more than women who won’t enable men. It tends to shine an unflattering light on their own relationships.

Kimura · 18/12/2025 19:21

Starconundrum · 18/12/2025 18:28

It was the pelicot case that convinced me it's most men.

50 men were convicted of of raping her. Dominique had messaged thousands of men inviting them to. Or suggesting ways to do it to other women. It wasnt just that so many men had said yes, it was that not one single man had reported that they had been approached. Not a whisper from any of them.

The police discovered the evidence when they investigated Dominique pelicot in an unrelated case.

Not one single man out of thousands stood up for Gisele pelicot.

Not one single man.

I don't think that's a fair yardstick. He wasn't approaching regular people in the pub or online.

The men he contacted were all members of an extremely niche, private corner of an underground fetish forum for scumbags with a specific interest in discussing/carrying out this particular kind of abuse.

Why would they report it?

safetyfreak · 18/12/2025 19:15

Once, a group of young men in a car threw mud at the back of my head. They must have planned to throw it at someone, and I was the chosen target.

Another occasion in my teens, I walked past a group of young guys, and one said out loud how ugly I was.

Both of those incidents made me feel horrible about myself, but it says more about them than it does about me.

There are vile women out there , that much is certain. But I’ve never had women shout things out in public about my appearance. Or witnessed that happen to anyone else . It’s always men.

I fear women some are utter cxnts is not just men nowdays its both.
Mumsnet is cest pit of women bulling other women.
Even in public ive had the run ins with women.

1 in 4 women will be sexually assaulted or raped in their life time by a man.
One woman or girl is killed every 10 mins by their intimate male partner globally
But you carry on about women being the same.
