If money was no object, would you live alone?

I love DP, but I also always loved living alone. We ended up living together because it makes economic sense, but having had this debate with a few female friends recently, almost all of us said we would actually prefer living alone and having two homes if money wasn’t an issue—even the married ones!

Plenty of research exists to show men are better off when living with women and women don’t benefit in the same way by living with men. Just interested in opinions. For me, it’s mostly about knowing the place will be beautiful, quiet, tidy, clean and that I can be alone if I want.

Me and my husband have often said, we should sell our 4 bed house, buy 2 two bedroom flats next to each other.

Perfect solution. I need a place I can be messy.

No, I wouldn't want to live alone. I've done it a couple of times, but I'm a gregarious soul and I like living with others. Besides, it's not DH that makes all the work around the house, it's the DC.

Yes at this moment get away from this moaning grinch of a husband

yes

BaronessBomburst · 18/12/2025 16:49

Yes. Definitely.

Gallivant · 18/12/2025 16:49

No. Living with DH is a choice, not a necessity. I'd hate to be trapped like that.

Bubnov · 18/12/2025 16:48

Yes

Baahbaahmutton · 18/12/2025 16:47

No.
Unless DH is gone. Then yes. Don't think I could live with someone else tbh

jadoreyes · 18/12/2025 16:47

No, I'd live in a huge house with my husband and kids, with my own bathroom, dressing room and study, and various cottages on the estate for friends coming to stay and children as they get older.

mamaduckbone · 18/12/2025 16:47

I've never ever lived alone and would love to, maybe 2 or 3 days a week.

gogomomo2 · 18/12/2025 16:46

No, I love living with dp. Lived alone for 6 months (between exh finally moving out and moving in with dp) didn’t like it

FortyFacedFuckers · 18/12/2025 16:46

yes 100%

ThirdStorm · 18/12/2025 16:46

I've lived alone for 17 years since my divorce and I can't see myself wanting to share my space ever again.

toomuchfaff · 18/12/2025 16:46

I live alone with my dog - I hate it, but don't want anyone else to replace my late husband, so am stuck with it.

So, you don’t live alone 😊

Loub1987 · 18/12/2025 16:43

Depends on the person, I like a cuddle and just seeing DH at random points in the day and sharing the home together. So it’s a no from me.

Carandache18 · 18/12/2025 16:42

Love to.

whyohwhyisitalwayswet · 18/12/2025 16:42

I live with my DC, queen of all I survey and I love it. Have a lovely DP but no intention of moving in!

MinnieMountain · 18/12/2025 16:42

When my libido is playing ball, I like having sex with DH, so maybe if he lived a 10 minute walk away?

Holluschickie · 18/12/2025 16:42

Yes. But I am the messy one!

No way!!

Chasingsquirrels · 18/12/2025 16:41

No, I prefer living with a partner.

Money is no object and I've been living as the sole adult with my 2 (now adult) dc since my DH died in 2017.
My DP of several years has recently moved in, now that both my dc are adults. Dc2 is still at home doing an apprenticeship but I discussed it with him first to make sure he was okay with DP moving in.

I said from the start that I wouldn't have another man live with them as children (late-Dh was their stepdad, so they'd also been through their parents split), but now they are adults I'm happy to live with DP.
