Watch me do my morning routine!!!

Lay in bed this morning and it’s all coming up
on my Ig feed. Mums with huge houses, gardens & cars. Waking at 5 am, getting dressed, taking their huge water/juice/coffee bottle flask thingies and driving in the cold and dark to the gym, working out then doing pilates in the morning. We see the step by step account, the perfect outfits, the perfect skincare routine, back home making eggs & pancake and fruit for their child/children.

Whose morning routine is like this? Am I just failing at life 😂

My morning routine today-Dd woke me at 7, I stayed in bed for ten minutes later as didn’t want to leave my warm bed, then felt guilty as Dd desperate to see what the elves had done
Came down-coffee, Dd opened advent calendar & watched tv. Made Dd Ready brek and a banana, scrolled my phone. Pulled on leggings and fleece, sorted Dds bag, did her hair, droped her at school, back home, lay on sofa-(work in evenings)

i don't watch the instagram ones but have a bit of a love hate thing about the "come shop with me"YouTube hauls (horrible word). Watched one where she went "luxury shopping" at one of those designer outlets. She usually does Primark, Temu and B and M. She was selecting and cooing over "bargain" bags that were at least a grand. She got some what I thought were reasonable comments about this being a lot of money for many people in these difficult times and wow she was replying she worked hard for her money and "each to their own" . Very different from her onscreen personna of constant smiles and happy positivity, Then she had a rant about this on her next video again saying how hard she works and which produced a lot of fawning replies telling her how lovely she is, and "ignore the haters" and "nasty Nancys" . Made me wonder how much money you can make on YouTube so that it is your only source of income and you have the cash for designer stuff. I wonder when the influencer bubble will burst and will they have to get real jobs

user1470508354 · 16/12/2025 20:49

Take it all with a very big pinch of salt. Influencing is their job, they get paid to do all that stuff. Most normal parents don't do a full workout, pilates, meditate on a pillow of clouds and then make breakfast out of moonwater and hand picked grains along with fruits from their organic garden before getting their perfectly presented children off to school at 8am. Most normal people's routine looks pretty much like yours

MoanyMo · 16/12/2025 20:45

😂 I’d love to see the behind the scenes of these videos. They must set up the phone/camera to record - jump back into bed to get back out again🙈. They must do this all over their houses, to get video of themselves walking into rooms it’s bonkers 🙈

Jan24680 · 16/12/2025 20:36

I feel rather sorry for them and their arm which is about to fall off from holding their phone. Their spouse must be really checked out if they need to get up that early for some me time.

Yesterday mornings routine. Baby wakes us up at 8:30. OH gets out of bed to change his nappy despite having been up with sickness and diarrhoea 4 times in the night. He promptly starts vomiting, while shouting for help. I am already scrambling to get some clothes on. I undress babies soiled clothes in to bath and clean him up. OH dresses baby, I make breakfast for myself and baby. Baby eats two portions of porridge. I have a shower. OH and baby have a nap. Didn't occur to me to record it, bother.

Oh ha I love that they are all perfectly made up etc first thing. For the first 2 hours of my morning I look like I live under a bridge doling out insults to passers by.

I'd quite like that as a job!

CelestialCandyfloss · 16/12/2025 20:36

I've never seen anything like this. Happily oblivious 😊

GreatestDay · 16/12/2025 20:28

Yes, that as well. I wonder why some people have such an issue with others choosing to start their day early. It’s like they see it as a personal attack on their own choices. Very odd.

It's bizarre isn't it?

I get up early in the morning because I function MUCH better at 8am than I do at 8pm. By 8am I'll have done some laundry, fed the animals, vacuumed, washed the breakfast dishes, mopped the floors and left for work - but by 8pm I'm on the sofa under a blanket eating cupboard snacks and watching shit TV 😂

I'm also self-employed so I set my hours around when I best function - meaning I start at (or before) 8am but I'm always home and in the shower by 2.30pm at the absolute latest.

I didn't realise being a morning person was so offensive!

And maybe they’re just morning people who would be unmotivated by 12pm or 5pm or 8pm to do any of it.

Great, but you saying you ‘somehow’ manage sounds very sneering. Other people may need to get up earlier to achieve what you do or maybe they have different circumstances to you. Maybe they don’t have any other opportunity to go to the gym or exercise at home due to having children and no childcare options, maybe they spend more time exercising than you, maybe they want more time to make their hair look nicer, maybe they have more children or children with different needs etc

It's hardly aspirational for me. Think I'd rather die than get up at 5am every day. Somehow I still manage to exercise, work, parent and keep my house nice without doing so.

I know a woman who genuinely lives her life like this. She’s an old colleague, now has three kids and became a SAHM. She was always an early riser. Lived 10 mins walk from office with start time of 9:30, but would get up at 6am to do whatever else she wanted and needed to do. She was always in bed by 9pm. Last time I spoke to her she was in domestic heaven. Up at 5am, gym, makeup, cooking breakfast, wholesome activities with her three children all day.

Yes, it’s a job for many influences but also many probably do it because they are naturally like this and people find it aspirational enough to watch.

I’m a shit morning person but a big night owl. No one wants to watch that on IG.

Bumblefuzz · 16/12/2025 18:54

I get up at 5.15am to have time to do my jobs (dishwasher,/wiping kitchen/lunches/feed cats/clean cat litter). Shout at kids 25 times that it's time to get up. At leisure centre by 6.30am, leave at 7.30am, home, dressed, kids out & to school for 8.15/30 & off to work.

Wouldn't have time to film it as far too busy 'doing' it. Besides, look a total frazzled mess!

Hankunamatata · 16/12/2025 18:03

Why would I want to watch someone's morning routine?

That's the beauty of social media, if you don't want to watch, just scroll on.

Lots of people clearly do like watching 'cause these people often have millions of followers and make good money from filming what they do.

Absolutely, putting pen to paper is so helpful for processing feelings, getting your thoughts in order and just taking 10 minutes for yourself. I love a new notebook and a nice pen.

Exactly, and routine in general can be really helpful for people who are prone to depression or anxiety. I personally find routine really comforting and while I'd never share my life online to that extent, my mornings are very routine based (as is my after-work time).

nopiesleftinthisvehicle · 16/12/2025 18:12

I get a lot of the of young single mothers who have had triplets/quads after having 3 older children.. It's very impressive watching their routine.. and strangely comforting ☕

I do it it too. It’s really helpful for mental health issues, which I’ve struggled with in the past. That ‘crap’ as a pp called it, helps a lot of people have better mental health. It’s harmless so I’m not sure why people have to be so negative about it.

It's all fake. Stop watching it.

Watch these YouTubers for long enough and they inevitably let slip about having some or other mental health condition. I personally think a lot of them are doing social media because it's the only job they can do. They can set their own hours, they don't have to talk to anyone or have relationships with work colleagues, there's no having to explain to the boss why they haven't done what they were told to do and getting a telling off for it, can take time off at a moments notice if they need to because they're answerable to nobody except their viewing figures and the algorithm. They do the morning routine videos because they've not necessarily got much in the way of a life to film.

Or maybe they actually enjoy what they do and not having to deal with people making sneery comments like yours.

Itsmetheflamingo · 16/12/2025 17:42

Quite common generally on forums but I don’t think people stop and think about how emotionally unintelligent they sound before claiming to find so many simple things hard to understand

Oh I agree. I think people use it as a way to try and make other people feel stupid or small, not realising it does the exact opposite.

Christmas2025 · 16/12/2025 17:48

InSpainTheRain · 16/12/2025 12:45

I don't have anything like that in my feed as it's not the sort of thing I watch - and @Mulledjuice is right, the more you watch the more you will get.

I think that many people who do these sorts of posts/content are actually struggling themselves (not all but many). I think they use it as a lever to make themselves do things that otherwise they feel they would fail at.

I was chatting to a girl on a city break recently who had live-streamed her breakfast (yes really!) she said that she had to do it because otherwise she would lay in bed all day and do nothing apart from be depressed. This set me thinking that perhaps many people struggle with life so they create this view online then have to keep it up. Just my thoughts.

I've been on MN years under various names and my experience is that, generally, people like to sneer at anyone who appears to have their shit together - especially if they're also morning people.

That’s such a strange confusion to have. It’s obvious people like different things isn’t it? People like banal drivel, it’s a bit of light hey escapism. I don’t understand what draws people to radio 4, or heavy metal, or Minecraft or CoD, but I am aware that other people enjoy it without being “seriously confused”

I don’t get up at 5 but I do try to write in my journal each morning - dog, cat and kids permitting. I often don’t succeed.
